Chapter 7: Seeing Each Other Face to Face
"Mengmeng, is this the new artist you signed?"
In the elevator, a girl couldn't help but ask with a smile.
Su Meng turned her head to glance at Shen Huai, her eyes flickering slightly: "No, just a regular employee, he just started today."
Upon hearing this, the girls in the elevator were clearly even more excited.
"Did you hear that? Not an artist, an employee."
"He's so handsome, my god, and he's not even an artist."
"Handsome, would you mind if I added you on WeChat?"
Shen Huai lowered his head and saw several phone screens thrust toward him, with QR codes displayed brightly on them.
As expected of a media company, the way they hit on people is just so straightforward.
Watching the many QR codes being thrust at him, Su Meng looked impatient and lowered her eyes, turning her face away.
Under the gaze of everyone.
Out of politeness, Shen Huai could only take out his phone and scan everyone's QR codes.
"Ding-dong—"
The 6th floor arrived.
Su Meng kept a sullen face and, without even greeting Shen Huai, strode out of the elevator on her own.
Seeing Su Meng leave, Shen Huai hurriedly put away his phone and followed.
"Are you angry?"
Shen Huai caught up to Su Meng's pace and asked with a smile.
"Which eye did you see me being angry with?"
Su Meng turned around abruptly and mocked him as if out of spite: "It's just adding a few WeChats, don't tell me I can stop you from radiating charm?"
"Mm, this charm of mine is indeed hard to resist."
Shen Huai curled his lips.
Su Meng suffered a silent loss, glared fiercely at Shen Huai, and her footsteps became fast and heavy as she stubbornly marched forward.
Even Su Meng herself didn't know what was going on with this inexplicable surge of annoyance in her heart.
She was merely his ex-girlfriend.
Now she had nothing to do with him.
But Shen Huai adding so many girls' WeChats right in front of her.
It was clearly to make her angry on purpose.
Shen Huai shook his head helplessly.
With his current understanding of women as a veteran of the dating scene.
This was clearly Su Meng's possessiveness at work.
Although he was no longer her boyfriend now.
But after all, he had chased her for three whole years in the past.
In Su Meng's subconscious, even if she wasn't with him, he should still be her possession.
That must be why her emotions suddenly spiraled out of control when other girls suddenly asked him for his contact information.
See through it but don't point it out.
Shen Huai could only follow silently behind Su Meng.
Seeing that Shen Huai not only showed no sign of coaxing her but instead followed lazily behind.
Su Meng thought more and more angrily, and her footsteps grew faster.
"We're here."
Su Meng stopped abruptly in front of an office door with a look of displeasure.
Shen Huai looked over, and a bright line of large characters was engraved on the side of the door—
"Public Relations Director's Office".
Su Meng took a deep breath, and after glaring fiercely at Shen Huai, she finally reined in her sullen expression.
She raised her hand and knocked lightly on the office door.
"Director Lu, you have a new employee starting in your department today."
"Mm, bring them in."
A low female voice sounded from inside the door.
Shen Huai's brows knit together.
How did this voice sound so familiar? Su Meng turned and leaned close to Shen Huai's ear, lowering her voice to say: "Don't blame me for not warning you, the temper of your Department Director is not good, you're on your own."
After saying this.
Su Meng cleared her throat, gripped the doorknob tightly, and after turning it to open the door, immediately put on a standard professional smile: "Director Lu, I've brought the person."
Shen Huai followed Su Meng into the office.
He saw a woman sitting on a leather swivel office chair, with her back to them, looking at the calligraphy and painting on the wall.
A light blue suit jacket was draped casually over the back of the chair.
It looked lazy and carefree.
"Hello Director Lu, I am the new hire starting today, Shen Huai."
Seeing that the woman did not turn around, Shen Huai politely introduced himself first.
To his surprise.
Upon hearing the two words "Shen Huai", the woman's figure stiffened for a moment.
Immediately after, the office chair spun half a circle with a "swish"—
Lu Sheng stared with wide, shocked eyes, her pupils nearly shaking.
It really wasn't just someone with the same name; it was actually Shen Huai himself! And the smile Shen Huai had practiced countless times.
Was now completely frozen on his face.
How could it be her? Heavens, are you messing with me? Who could have imagined.
That the ex-girlfriend and neighbor who had lost control from drunkenness the day before and slept in her bed.
Would actually be her superior?! Could there be anything more surreal than this? And Lu Sheng was clearly finding it even harder to accept.
She stood up with a "whoosh," looking at this absurd scene before her.
She almost thought she hadn't sobered up from the alcohol yet.
A few days ago, she had heard from her Assistant that a newcomer was joining the Public Relations Department.
Lu Sheng hadn't thought much of it at first.
After all, in a large company like this, it was inevitable that some people with connections would be squeezed in through various channels.
So when the Assistant sent her the newcomer's resume, she hadn't even taken a single look at it.
To cover up her embarrassment.
Lu Sheng hurriedly averted her gaze, rummaged through the pile of documents on her desk, and quickly pulled out a contract to block her front.
"Director Lu, are you alright?" Su Meng asked, somewhat surprised.
She had never seen Lu Sheng show such a panicked expression.
"I'm fine, you go ahead and get busy."
Lu Sheng's voice came from behind the contract.
And Shen Huai also lowered his head, awkwardly turning it away.
Su Meng scanned back and forth between Lu Sheng and Shen Huai with suspicion.
She was only a Specialist, while Lu Sheng was the Public Relations Director.
Even if she were curious, she wasn't foolish enough to get to the bottom of it right in front of Lu Sheng.
Finally.
Su Meng nodded slightly: "Director Lu, then I'll be going first."
After saying that, Su Meng shot Shen Huai a "good luck" look.
She walked to the door and gently closed the office door.
The moment the door closed.
The contract Lu Sheng had used as a cover was tossed onto the desk by her with a "slap," as she couldn't wait any longer.
"The new company you said you were joining that day, it was actually Xingyao?"
Lu Sheng's willow eyebrows stood up, her entire posture overbearing: "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"You didn't ask me either."
Shen Huai shrugged with extreme innocence.
"You!..." Lu Sheng was momentarily speechless.
Damn it, she was too angry.
This matter really had nothing to do with Shen Huai.
If she had just looked at the resume the Assistant sent even once, she could have responded in advance.
But...
This is just too surreal!
She had finally managed to excise that absurd night from the day before yesterday from her memory.
And even secretly vowed to see Shen Huai less in the future.
And now look at this.
They see each other every time they look up.
She and Shen Huai were now not only in the same company, but also in the same department.
A superior and subordinate relationship.
Are you trying to make things awkward? Lu Sheng bit her lip, glancing sideways at the light blue professional outfit Shen Huai was wearing.
She suddenly recalled the words she had said when picking out clothes for Shen Huai.
"I guarantee that if you wear this to the company on your first day, you'll definitely be so handsome that your superior won't be able to speak!"
Dead memories suddenly surged forth.
Lu Sheng only felt a wave of shame.
She never imagined.
That in the end, she had been the one personally picking out clothes for her subordinate to please herself.
Withdrawing her thoughts, Lu Sheng looked up again.
She found that Shen Huai was staring at her without blinking.
"You... why are you staring at me like that?" Lu Sheng frowned in displeasure.
Shen Huai pursed his lips and said nothing.
His gaze swept over Lu Sheng several times, then he looked down at his own clothes.
Finally, Shen Huai pointed at the two of them's outfits:
"Director Lu, don't you think the outfits we're wearing today look a lot like a couple's outfit?"
