Chapter 117: Illusion

At the same time, Robin also began to strengthen his mental defense training.

He meditated in the training ground each day, trying to make his will as solid as rock.

He also found some books on illusion in the academy's library, attempting to understand Morris's illusion principles.

One night, Robin closed his eyes and meditated in the training ground. His breath was steady and deep, and the Life Force within him flowed slowly, forming an invisible barrier.

This was his first use of the three-layer mental defense system after his spiritual metamorphosis.

His brainwave frequency stabilized in the gamma band, resonating with the singularity crystal.

Suddenly, a strong dizziness assaulted him, and the scene before his eyes began to warp and distort.

"It's coming..." Robin felt a chill in his heart and immediately activated the three-layer mental defense system within him to resist the illusion's effect.

Eerie images floated in his mind, as if countless voices whispered at his ears, trying to disturb his spirit.

"Ailen... give up... you cannot oppose us..." a low voice sounded at his ear.

Robin silently watched the illusion before him, expression calm, as if watching a movie.

This was Morris's illusion attempting to erode his will.

Robin glanced at the System Panel; indeed it exercised Knight will and mental resilience, so he did not act to break it.

On the day of the "Knight Trial," many trainees and Title: Instructor gathered on the academy square.

The trial involved defeating illusionary enemies on a simulated battlefield while protecting teammates.

Robin was assigned to a squad, while Tuoleisi stood at a distance, sneering at him.

Robin stood at the center of the training ground, and the surroundings began to warp and distort.

In his view, teammates who had fought side by side suddenly turned into snarling enemies, their eyes flashing cold light, and their weapons mercilessly slashed toward him.

"It's coming..." Robin felt a chill, and immediately activated the three-layer mental defense system within him.

Three invisible barriers materialized in his mind, each shimmering faintly, firmly shielding his consciousness within.

Morris's illusion was far more terrifying than Robin had imagined.

The power of the illusion surged like a tide against his mental defense, trying to corrode his reason.

Robin clenched his teeth, fine beads of sweat beading on his forehead; he knew he had to stay clear‑headed, or the consequences would be unimaginable.

At that moment, a teammate—Maidewen—launched the first attack.

His long Sword sliced the air, bearing fierce Sword Qi straight toward Robin's chest.

Robin swiftly sidestepped, the Sword blade grazing his hem and producing a sharp whooshing sound.

"Maidewen! Wake up! This is an illusion!" Robin shouted loudly, trying to awaken his teammate's awareness.

Maidewen's gaze was hollow and cold, as if he could not hear his voice at all.

Immediately after, another teammate—Ailin—attacked from the side. Her twin blades were as agile as poisonous snakes, aiming straight for Robin's throat.

Robin quickly retreated while swinging his long Sword, barely blocking the strike.

Ailin's attack did not cease; her onslaught was like a raging storm, forcing Robin to keep falling back.

"Damn it!" Robin muttered inwardly.

These teammates had been completely controlled by Morris's illusion; their attacks were not of their own volition, yet each strike was lethal.

Robin's situation grew increasingly perilous. His teammates were all Formal Knights, whose strength was not to be underestimated.

Under the illusion's influence, their attacks grew even more frenzied, caring nothing for their own defense, only seeking to knock Robin down.

Maidewen's long Sword swung again, and Robin parried with his Sword.

Ailin's twin blades followed closely; Robin could only clumsily roll to dodge, barely evading the fatal blow.

"We can't let this continue!" Robin thought anxiously.

He must quickly find a way to break the illusion, or he would eventually be forced into a dead end by his teammates.

Unfortunately, at this moment he could not wield the power of a Legendary Knight.

"Always looking for trouble!" Robin muttered, then surged toward Maidewen.

His speed was extreme, like a flash of lightning, instantly closing in on Maidewen's front.

Maidewen clearly hadn't expected Robin's sudden counterattack; his long Sword hadn't even left his hand when Robin's hand slash struck his wrist.

"Crack!" Maidewen's wrist emitted a crisp sound, and the long Sword flew from his hand.

Robin, seizing the moment, kicked his chest, sending him several meters backward.

Robin hadn't had time to catch his breath when Ailin's attack arrived again.

Her twin blades, like poisonous snakes, lunged at Robin's back; Robin swiftly turned, using his Sword to block one blade, but the other slashed through the fabric on his shoulder.

"That's excessive!" Robin was truly angry this time, suddenly bursting with speed far surpassing that of a Formal Knight as he charged at Maidewen.

His speed was extreme, instantly closing in on Maidewen's front. Maidewen hadn't had time to react when Robin's hand slash struck his neck, knocking him unconscious.

Immediately, Robin surged toward Ailin.

Ailin's twin blades thrust again, but Robin no longer dodged; he met them head‑on.

His Sword blade clashed with Ailin's twin blades, emitting a harsh metallic screech.

"Ailin! Wake up! This is an illusion!" Robin shouted loudly, simultaneously striking Ailin's abdomen hard with his Sword hilt.

Ailin let out a muted grunt, her twin blades slipping from her hands, and her body collapsed limp on the ground.

As Maidewen and Ailin fell, the attacks of the other teammates gradually waned.

Robin knew his method worked. He rushed toward the last teammate—Leien—and with a hand slash struck his neck, knocking him out.

On the training ground, Robin stood alone, surrounded by fallen teammates.

He looked around with a helpless expression; his squad was essentially wiped out.

Morris saw his illusion being broken, and his complexion turned pale instantly.

A flash of panic crossed his eyes; evidently he hadn't expected Robin could break his illusion.

He swiftly turned around, trying to escape the training field, but the academy expert lying in ambush in the dark—James—appeared before him like a flash of lightning.

"Trying to escape? Too late." James's voice was low and icy; he gripped a longsword flashing with cold light, its tip aimed at Morris's throat.

Morris's steps came to an abrupt halt, fine beads of sweat seeping onto his forehead.

He had no way to flee. James's strength far surpassed his; even as a First Ring Wizard, he could not escape the pursuit of a Legendary Knight at such close range.

"You……you can't kill me!" Morris's voice trembled slightly, yet his tone remained firm: "I am an elder-level councilor of the Wizard Council; kill me, and you will face the wrath of the entire Wizard Council."
