Chapter 50: Wonder: Fairy Fortress

~7 min read 1,323 words

"Wonder: Fairy Fortress"

"Construction requires technology: Winds of Magic manipulation, Fairy Realm cognition or similar technology, architecture, mathematics, Mana Liquefaction, Wisdom Path or similar technology"

"Construction requirements: 4000 Mana, a cliff or mountain range in a war-element zone, 1000 Mana offerings, 12000 Soul Fragments"

"The Fairy Fortress is a structure that was originally impossible to build. The Fairies living in the Deepwood near Castano have no concept of a fortress. These naturally born Spirits manipulate the fate of Humans based on their own whims, devouring Human infants and laughing heartily while watching Human suffering and the destruction of families."

These monsters have no conscience, nor do they have knowledge or systems; the difference between them and demons is that they have no masters, which makes the actions of the Fairies even more terrifying and unpredictable.

However, a group of Fairies did indeed propose the concept of this fortress for the sake of amusement.

After all, a fortress hidden in the Fairy Realm, letting Humans build it, letting Humans craft it, and then having the thing crush those Humans the moment it is completed—doesn't that sound like fun?"

"Wonder effect: The Fairy Fortress will garrison an unintelligent Subspace army, treated as a mixed supernatural legion of 12,000 men. It possesses two hundred Fairy Cannons. It cannot leave the fortress, cannot be dispelled, has no morale, is unaffected by physical effects, and magic effects are halved."

Its location's defensive capability is treated as equivalent to a top-tier masonry Star Fort, and it comes with 50% magic resistance, as well as the traits of permanent invisibility and concealment within the Fairy Realm.

The civilization possessing this wonder will gain a derivative action—Explore the Fairy Realm"

"..."

It is pure, so pure that there are no other stats at all.

This is the first pure wonder Li Ang has ever possessed, one with almost nothing else attached to it.

Its effect is to conjure an invisible super-fortress on the spot, containing an entire supernatural ghost legion, with the strategic goal of being stuck there so that no one can ever pass through.

From this, it is evident that the Fairies near Castano are indeed a group of wicked, smoke-belching beasts; the logic behind their building of wonders is purely to disgust other races. Fortunately, however, this wicked wonder was never truly built by the Fairies, allowing Li Ang to plunder the wisdom from the void and hold it in his own hands instead.

Moreover, the actual construction of this building is exceptionally simple and convenient.

As for Mana offerings, things like Devil Fish from the sea can actually be used as substitutes. These creatures are the manifestation of twisted beings and can be counted as heads.

And Soul Fragments can be cobbled together from the demons. Just let Stonehenge tear a bit slower, or have the Knights at the Giant Tree Outpost throw the demons over. The Life Giant Tree, which Li Ang has modified, still contains circulating life force within, but its exterior now looks completely righteous.

Many Knights of Bretonnia have started to suspect whether they are already the legendary Green Knight, but Li Ang thinks they are overthinking it.

They are green because they are infused with life force; is the legendary Green Knight also infused with life force?

Finally, it is time to verify the construction method of the wonder.

Closing his eyes and sensing the construction process of the Fairy Fortress, along with the accompanying Mana structure and the method to open the Fairy Gate, Li Ang could not help but let out a sigh from the bottom of his heart.

"They really are a bunch of living beasts..."

Not a single one of these techniques and Runes has anything to do with humanity...

The Runes and imprints emerging in his mind are all linked to Human suffering; this Fairy technology makes Li Ang's thoughts on clearing out this world much clearer.

If one day he can truly manifest his power from the Broken Lands, Li Ang will kill every single one of these Subspace creatures, no matter what. Because whether in their kindness or their ugliness, these things are monsters—beasts without Human intellect.

Their goodwill leads to the most pathetic tragedies, and their jokes lead to the eternal wrath of a family.

A dead Subspace creature is a good creature.

Feeling the Runes of the Fairy Realm transmitted by the Fairy Fortress, Li Ang thought for a moment and decided to make slight modifications to the wonder and the ritual in order to better circulate the Mana.

To emphasize once again, Mana is a research system independent of technology. To be precise, it is not entirely independent, as it can also be researched using research points. But by comparison, Li Ang still prefers to force massive amounts of Mana into it for development.

Because in this way, Li Ang can feel the past and future of a wonder from head to toe, as he is doing now, precisely controlling every detail of these wonders' construction. He can feel the malice that these aliens and groups hold toward other races, and then extinguish the last remnants of his own kindness.

This is not a building that Humans or ordinary intelligent beings could construct.

But Li Ang is different.

He can see it.

That Ritual Eye is inscribed with the concept of harming the world.

It is the primordial ritual of all intelligent beings, a ritual praying for self-destruction and the destruction of others.

Whether it is Fairies, demons, or whatever else is in the Subspace, even the Winds of Magic flowing in the sky, and certain aggregates laughing wildly behind those Winds of Magic, he can see them all.

So naturally, Li Ang is able to build this fortress that overlaps between illusion and reality, which is almost impossible for Humans to perceive or build. In plain terms, building this type of special wonder requires the leader or the local population to possess dimensional cognition and similar relevant elements and abilities to carry out the construction.

And quite coincidentally, whether as a leader or in seeking benefits for his people, Li Ang has exactly that.

"You have modified the wonder Fairy Fortress!"

"The Fairy Realm portal inside the Fairy Fortress has been cancelled! Now, a Rebirth Pool appears inside the Fairy Fortress, treated as a life-element zone. All fallen supernatural troops can be revived in the Rebirth Pool at the cost of 1 Mana.

The daily resurrection limit is 12,000."

"The name of the Fairy Fortress has been changed to, Li Ang's Heavenly Fortress!"

"..."

Why does this name look so ominous no matter how you look at it? Looking at the name provided by the system, Li Ang raised an eyebrow, floated happily in the Observatory for a moment, and then called out the name of his chief administrator.

"Wufuruike! Oh no, Oliver! Are you still there!"

"I am here, my master."

A verdant, life-force-filled shadow walked out humbly from the corner and lowered its head.

"What are your orders?"

"Prepare to take people to build the Fairy Fortress; we are going to give your stubborn compatriots a surprise."

"Yes, master."

The Knight, radiating green light of life, replied softly.

Then he looked at the floating Li Ang for a moment of silence and asked with some confusion.

"But master, aren't you able to issue orders within our minds? Why this time..."

"I hope for a bit of ritual, at least to make me look like a normal leader. Of course, most importantly, this is actually your own idea."

Glancing at the embarrassed Oliver, Li Ang floated in the Observatory and said: "Don't think I don't know what you are saying about me behind my back. A bone lich playing with sorcery? A collective hallucination? Fine, since direct orders make you feel at ease, then I will issue direct orders. Are you satisfied now?"

"... Your will, my lord."
