Chapter 233: Sapphires and the Mithril Flower
Buildings will decay, and trees have their natural lifespans, but rare metals like Adamantine and Mithril are difficult to decay; it would be even better if I could find some Ancient Magic Artifacts.
Excavating ruins is not an easy job, but fortunately, this is not on Earth, where there are so many precautions; all Xia Duo wants is to find something valuable, and as for the protection of the ruins, he does not care that much.
As usual, he set up Magic Alarms around the camp and gave instructions for everyone's work arrangements before Xia Duo felt at ease to go archaeology.
Arriving near the Mythallar, Xia Duo first inspected the surroundings.
He did not set up Magic Alarms here; he simply placed some thin branches and fallen leaves held down by stones in places where the terrain was relatively flat and convenient for people or animals to pass through.
If someone or an animal passed by, he could discover it in time, whereas if he set up a Magic Alarm, it might be more obvious in the eyes of a Spellcaster.
After the inspection, he found no abnormalities; there were not even any animal tracks here.
Entering the Mythallar through the felled tree, although he had passed through it countless times these past few days, every time he passed through, he had to sigh in admiration—
It is even more magical than the Portal of the Tower of Time!
The Portal of the Tower of Time, or rather, a Mage's teleportation, all have some movement: the effect on the Magic Net and the reaction of the Magic Net.
Although Xia Duo does not yet understand it, he can at least see some surface phenomena.
But here, entering and exiting is almost imperceptible, as if the space has not changed at all, transitioning very smoothly.
Xia Duo is very clear about the Principles of the Mythallar; it is nothing more than control over the Magic Net, but as for how to control it specifically and why it must be controlled that way, he is completely clueless.
This thing is not something he needs to study for the time being.
Entering from the tree roots, the location he arrives at in the ruins is the same every time, right by the side of the same collapsed, decayed stone wall.
Xia Duo speculates that this might be a place similar to a Teleportation Room or an elevator exit; of course, it is also possible that it is just a loophole in the Mythallar, and this place is very ordinary.
But regardless, he has already decided to focus his first search target on the building ruins here.
……
Without Magic, and even without handy tools, excavating ruins is truly an incredibly troublesome task!
Fortunately, looking at the ruins here at a glance, the vast majority are on the Surface; otherwise, it would be truly too difficult.
He does not know how many years this ruin has existed; the stone walls have already become loose. Xia Duo used his shield as a shovel to scrape away the covering soil and humus, then used his sword as a metal detector, sweeping it across inch by inch.
If he hit a hard object, he would pick it out to take a look; if not, he would move on, still planning out grids like searching for a key in a room, then searching grid by grid.
After a whole day, he had only searched an area of less than 40 square meters. Looking at this ruin the size of a football field, Xia Duo felt a bit numb.
To search it all, wouldn't it take several months!
However, looking at the harvest from this whole day, Xia Duo was full of energy again; isn't it just a matter of a few months! Just do it!
Today's harvest of Gemstones alone was more than ten; in the Magic world, almost any Gemstone is a collection of elements, full of energy.
Like a Ruby, it is a collection of fire elements; a Spellcaster can guide the energy within it, and whether it is used for Spellcasting or to Link Magic Web, it has very wide Applications.
The former can be made into Magic Wands and other Spellcasting tools, while the latter is more commonly seen in Magic Arrays and Scrolls.
The ink needed to make Advanced Magic Scrolls almost certainly contains fine Gemstone powder that still maintains the form of an elemental collection.
Besides this, many Gemstones have quite special functions even without additional processing; Xia Duo does not know much about this aspect, and the only one he knows is the White Crystal.
Just holding it in one's hand can provide a focus buff to a Spellcaster.
Of course, such good things are naturally expensive; the value of any Gemstone exceeds that of an equal volume of gold, and the most expensive ones can even exceed the value of an equal volume of Mithril by dozens of times.
The dozen or so Gemstones Xia Duo searched out from the ruins were all Sapphires; the large ones were bigger than an eye, and the small ones were only as big as a fingertip.
A rough estimate is that they are worth several thousand Gold Coins; of course, selling them directly for money is the worst strategy. The best way is to make them into Magic Items and sell them, then the price would not be calculated in "thousands."
At the very least, it would be in the "tens of thousands."
And for this batch of Gemstones of Xia Duo's, there is another way, which is to make them into jewelry. These Gemstones were originally components of the same piece of jewelry, but their fixed parts could not withstand the ravages of time and had long since decayed.
If they could be restored, they might be even more valuable than selling them as Magic Items.
However, for the time being, these things cannot see the light of day, so he can only amuse himself.
Besides these Gemstones, Xia Duo also found a flower-shaped Mithril small ornament; it was not a Magic Item, just an ordinary object made of Mithril.
This thing had been passed down through time, and when Xia Duo discovered it, it still maintained a silver-white luster. Looking purely at the value of the Mithril, this little thing is not worth much money.
But it was processed by the Elf, turning it into a work of art, and it remains as new as ever, with great collection value. People who like it might love it to death, but for Xia Duo, it is just so-so.
Of course, still the same saying, this thing cannot see the light of day for now.
"Sigh—"
Xia Duo let out a long sigh, but immediately couldn't help but laugh out loud. He was just complaining while having gained an advantage, but then he thought about it, the value of this ruin is so great, and he felt these treasures were a bit too hot to handle.
"Must think of a safe way!"
……
Returning to the camp, Xia Duo threw the dozen or so Sapphires and that Mithril Flower directly into the Wolfburg River. Compared to the camp or any other place, the water is his home turf.
Anyway, there is no need to worry about them being damaged by soaking in water; throwing them in the river is safer, and he can take them out whenever he needs them.
The next day, Xia Duo calculated the time and did not go to do archaeology inside the Mythallar, because the "Lucky Owen" was about to arrive.
If nothing unexpected happens, there should be many people on this trip, and if he is not there, the handover will be very troublesome.
Just past noon, Qiaoqi shouted as he ran over, "The ship is here, Lord, the 'Lucky Owen' is here!"
"So early!" Xia Duo lifted the door curtain and walked out of the small tent. Logically speaking, departing from Savile Town in the early morning, it should be afternoon when arriving here. Now the ship arrived early, and he couldn't help but ask another question:
"Qiaoqi, did you see clearly?"
"It's true! I saw them unfurl the sails, and there is the Lord's emblem on them!" Qiaoqi said affirmatively.
Xia Duo's emblem is an Earth character "Xia" plus a circle on the outside, which is also the emblem of Daxia Territory. The first thing Qiaoqi and the others were trained on in the port warehouse was to remember this emblem.
Xia Duo did not doubt that Qiaoqi was lying, but since he saw the emblem, it must be the "Lucky Owen," and it even unfurled its sails!
Unfurled sails? Xia Duo understood. He walked quickly to the water's edge and indeed felt a breeze blowing from the north, and he also saw the "Lucky Owen" billowing its sails to break through the water's surface, with the oars on both sides rowing non-stop.
In the morning, Xia Duo had deliberately checked the wind direction, and it was indeed a south wind; he did not expect it to have turned into a north wind now.
With the wind and the current, plus the efforts of the crew, it is no wonder it arrived several hours earlier than usual.
