Chapter 140: Death Consul

~7 min read 1,295 words

For as long as the large ship sailed on the ocean, Amon hung from the ship's sail, which caused Pallez to go up to the deck every now and then to pace around and admire the beautiful scenery of the sea.

Amon, however, remained unperturbed by favor or humiliation, and would even occasionally open his mouth to discuss some valuable experience between "Marauders" with Pallez.

This was perhaps one of the great wonders of the world; that two Angels of the same Pathway and the same Sequence could actually "coexist peacefully" and "exchange experiences."

Of course, since both were the strongest "Deception" experts, how much of what they said could be trusted was truly in doubt.

"Ah, we're almost there." Chumen looked toward the distant continent and sensed a certain grayish-white death; it was the trace left behind by the communication between the Underworld and the Real World.

He stood up and, in passing, waved his hand to let Amon down.

Amon maintained a reserved smile, slightly straightened his magic robe, adjusted his soft-pointed magic hat, and elegantly nodded at Pallez.

"That His Majesty Death seems to have sent a delegation to welcome us." Pallez saw the honor guard assembled at the port.

"The customs here are indeed quite strange." Chumen looked at those ornate coffins and sighed.

For those who believe in the God of Death, lying inside a coffin is likely the moment they are closest to the God of Death, symbolizing the soul entering the legendary Underworld to obtain eternal peace.

"Welcome, friends from the Northern Continent!"

Hearing this, Chumen looked over to see a man with bronze-colored skin and an indifferent gaze looking in their direction.

He wore a deep black robe embroidered with gold thread and a bird-shaped crown cast from gold, appearing to look down upon all living beings.

He was a "Death Consul."

"Huh?" Chumen was quite surprised. "It's actually him? Is he already the Balam Administrator at this time?"

However, thinking that even the Gods Alliance was about to be formed, his appearance was not surprising.

"He is the Administrator of Balam, Azik Eggers," Pallez reminded him.

It really was him... Chumen nodded slightly.

"Good day, Dream Duke." Azik Eggers' indifferent eyes seemed to have lost all color of emotion, and there was no fluctuation in his expression as he performed the salute.

He was an Administrator of the Balam Empire, holding a rank in the imperial hierarchy half a level higher than Chumen, but Chumen's status was far too special.

His coming to welcome them in person was even a bit of a slight.

"Welcome to Balam," the Death Consul's indifferent face said this with truly no sincerity at all.

Chumen only nodded slightly, ignored the few coffins, and walked on the land of Balam with the Death Consul.

Amon, however, curiously jumped into one to experience it. "Pity, there's no way to connect to the Underworld at all, and the 'God of Death' didn't specifically pull me in."

Pallez glanced at Chumen walking in front, then jumped in just like Amon and closed the lid—when in Rome, do as the Romans do...

Aside from the differences in customs, this place was not much different from the Solomon Empire of the Northern Continent.

"Which guests have you invited this time?" Chumen asked the Death Consul.

"The Popes and Angels of the major Churches."

The major Churches had already given enough face; not only did the Popes come out in person, but even several Angels had arrived.

The "Eternal Blazing Sun" Church, however, under Chumen's deliberate suppression, had always focused on missionary work and never participated in this kind of "team building."

This allowed the "Eternal Blazing Sun" Church to maintain a certain transcendence and achieve remarkable results in missionary work.

"The turnout is decent." Chumen nodded slightly. Of course, what he cared more about was perhaps a certain subsequent meeting of the gods; these Popes and Angels were merely figures from the major Churches to hold up the scene.

"Dream Duke, please follow me..." The Death Consul led the way personally, bringing the imperial delegation to a castle built with an obvious, irregular aesthetic imitating Solomon.

After Solomon became a god, this irregular beauty had become the aesthetic engraved into the occult significance of the Solomon Empire.

It was very eerie, and also very "Distorted."

"Why is it still this style of castle..." Pallez couldn't help but complain; he truly could not appreciate this so-called irregular beauty.

"It doesn't look bad." Amon looked with great interest at the architecture imitating the style of the Solomon Palace—he didn't dare approach the Solomon capital now, so he naturally couldn't see it.

Chumen did not express any opinion on this. Their imperial delegation had timed their arrival perfectly; the next day was the founding day of Balam, so they didn't need to wait here for long.

"Imperial banquet?" That night, Chumen received an invitation from the Death Consul to attend an imperial banquet.

This was a banquet that gathered all the guests together, and its main purpose was likely to reach a consensus: don't cause trouble at tomorrow's founding ceremony!

The most critical point was that the God of Death would attend in person.

"Is he trying to show me his attitude... Let's go take a look." Chumen had this thought and went to the appointment with Amon and Pallez.

For Chumen, what was important was not what was at the banquet, but the people who came to attend it.

When Chumen stepped into the palace where the banquet was held, the whole world seemed to fall into silence, and the gazes of those Popes and Angels from various Churches toward the three of them were somewhat heavy.

"Tsk, this is a bit dangerous!" Amon sighed from the side and shifted two steps horizontally, indicating that he was not with them.

It was already strange enough that Amon was mixed into the group, but for certain reasons, they had no choice but to ignore him.

Pallez was naturally not afraid of these Angels and Popes, but the group of True Gods standing behind them was truly a bit terrifying...

But Pallez was loyal enough and did not shift two steps like Amon.

"This is His Excellency the Dream Duke of the Solomon Empire." The Death Consul introduced Chumen to everyone in a businesslike manner.

"Your Excellency Dream." Even the Popes had to bow and salute.

"Huh? Hidden and Life?" Chumen scanned the banquet and unexpectedly saw two familiar figures; they were exactly the Hidden Angel and the Life Angel.

The avatars of these two were special and hidden enough that no True God had ever been able to discover them, only regarding them as pious Angels serving their respective True Gods.

But the Dream Angel did not know the Life Angel, so Chumen only greeted the Pope of the Evernight Church and the Hidden Angel in a friendly manner.

"Long time no see." The Hidden Angel only nodded slightly, while the Night Pontiff respectfully called out "Dream Angel."

This made the situation become somewhat subtle.

Dream had once served as the Pope of the Evernight Church; this news was not a secret, but now—there was a traitor among us...

"Ahem," the Death Consul, as the host of this place, finally couldn't help but speak up to break this silence.

"Dream Duke, please follow me; His Majesty the Emperor wishes to see you." The Death Consul led Chumen to a deeper part of the palace.

Once Chumen left, the atmosphere here eased rapidly, and Pallez was not excluded by these Angels, at least maintaining a kind of friendliness on the surface.

"Salinger, long time no see." Soon, Chumen met this "God of Death" with whom he had once held meetings.
