Chapter 4: Human City-States
"... Taking yourself as an example, Sequence 4 can already be called a Demigod..." Chumen introduced Sequence knowledge to Hermes, using certain Extraordinary Creatures in conflict as examples along the way.
"So that's how it is!" Hermes's expression was full of admiration, as he saw a new world.
"If I was able to become a Demigod, it must be because I unintentionally completed the ritual requirements at the time, and my luck was good enough; plus, my own Pathway is one that is good at handling madness..."
Hermes had extremely good luck, but his own innate Spirituality was also excellent. After becoming a Manipulator, he would often go to places where various Extraordinary Creatures fought to observe, and even actively manipulate their conflicts to observe the underlying laws hidden within.
This, in turn, invisibly conformed to the Acting Method, stabilizing his mental state.
Chumen's appearance was more like a form of guidance, allowing him to integrate all his occult knowledge into the Sequence system, forming a whole.
"Thank you, Angel, for bestowing knowledge upon me." Hermes bowed down to Chumen, using the honorific for an Angel.
"Call me Mr. instead." Chumen helped Hermes up.
"Yes!" Hermes was very respectful toward Chumen.
Perhaps in his view, Chumen was already a human Prophet, and it was the Creator who guided him here to impart this knowledge that blasphemed the gods to him.
"Let's go to the largest human city-state you know of first." Chumen did not forget his plan.
"Then let's go to the Silver Kingdom!" Hermes thought for a moment and said a name that Chumen found somewhat familiar, "That is already the best place for human life that I know of."
Hermes continued, "They worship the Goddess of Harvest there, and Her Authority and power can greatly increase the grain production within the Silver Kingdom. It is one of the very few places I have seen where one does not need to worry about food."
"Silver City?" Chumen's expression was somewhat strange; this sense of participation in history was truly very subtle.
"Silver City is the largest city-state in the Silver Kingdom..." Hermes also possessed a Magical Item capable of Teleportation, and at this moment, he took Chumen to "Travel" to that Silver City.
The figures of the two began to fade, eventually disappearing completely, and when they reappeared, they were already in a giant city.
This was built by certain Giants and human slaves; it was primitive yet magnificent. On the main streets stood stone pillars, and upon these stone pillars were engraved symbols of the harvest, such as wheat ears, springs, and flowers and grasses.
And all the stone pillars pointed in one direction, which was a huge Harvest Altar.
Many humans were kissing the ground, piously praying toward that Harvest Altar.
Besides this, there were houses built of mud bricks and rubble to be seen everywhere, which was somewhat similar to the Athens in Chumen's memories.
This was the true scene of current human society; Deep Darkness City was, after all, the foundation of the Goddess, and had been transformed by Her.
"Mr. Angel, are you going to meet the Giant King?" Hermes asked cautiously.
"No, I am here to find heretics." Chumen looked over the Silver City of the ancient era and said, "You have traveled here for a period of time; have you heard of people who worship the Sun?"
"The Sun?!" Hermes's pupils shrank slightly, then immediately returned to normal.
The Sun naturally referred to the one who awakened from the Chaos Sea. In the mythological records of later generations, in the late Second Epoch, that one awakened as a True God and began to reclaim the Authority of the Creator.
But to leap and become a True God? And even a dual-Pathway True God?
That essence of madness could crush anyone's will; even possessing the Unique of the Marauder Pathway could not reverse the fact of "God" awakening.
Even taking a step back, assuming that one truly became a god upon birth, then after realizing their own situation, they would definitely need a large number of believers to maintain their humanity.
This place was one of the largest human city-states, and it was very likely that believers of that one existed here.
And where there is existence, there will be traces.
Now, according to the records of the Elf Chronicle of later generations, it was the Age of First Fire Flare, and it was not far from the Age of Twins in the late Second Epoch.
Of course, what made Chumen even more certain was actually the attitude of the Goddess.
When Chumen proposed the strategy of vertical and horizontal alliances and active planning, She did not have any look of surprise at all. Perhaps... She had already had such thoughts, and already knew of that one's existence.
"As expected, you know." Seeing Hermes's reaction, Chumen immediately said with certainty.
Hermes had always been reserved, and even what he had shown so far was very limited. After all, he was a Spectator, which was understandable; it was hard to guarantee that he didn't have a few virtual personalities hidden in the depths of his mind.
"Dreams come true, Fantasy descends..." Chumen did not rush to ask, but instead looked at the Dream Book in his hand.
"Hermes, how did you get outside the Kingdom of the Destruction Demon Wolf?" Chumen asked.
"I have always been wandering outside the God's Kingdoms of the various Ancient Gods to observe Extraordinary Creatures..." Hermes said subconsciously.
"I was originally going to go to the City of Miracles to observe Dragons..." Hermes's eyes widened slightly, and his breathing became a bit hurried. He looked at Chumen again; this time it was not just respect, but also awe!
To be able to make him change his mind without a sound, this kind of power was too unimaginable.
Hearing this, Chumen was thoughtful.
"The Dream Book can actually interfere with Reality and Fate like this?" If this wasn't a Writer, no one would believe it!
Chumen pressed down on the Dream Book, and with a thought, wrote the next step of his plan into the book.
"Is it equivalent to a portable 0-08?" Chumen blinked.
"How did you know about the Sun?" Chumen and Hermes walked on the streets of Silver City, and the people around them ignored them under the effect of Psychological Invisibility.
"... I once walked in a dream." Hermes looked at Chumen's calm appearance; the Spectator's ability to see through people's hearts was of no use, so he could only say, "I caught a glimpse of the Sun."
"Heretics?" Chumen watched the sacrificial ritual of the Goddess of Harvest and asked softly.
"Yes, they are too pious, even fanatical; even in their dreams, they are praising the Sun." Hermes continued; if it weren't for this, it would have been difficult for him to discover them.
Chumen paused his steps. Well, one could only say it fit the stereotype perfectly!
"Then I will be able to meet them today." The two of them had already walked to the front of the sacrificial altar of the Goddess of Harvest, and Chumen had some faint sensing.
The altar was very high, and the edges were painted with various miracles performed by the Goddess of Harvest.
That was the foundation of Silver City's existence. They would also suffer from the harassment of some maddened monsters, but if too many people died, the Giant Race would even come to protect them.
Most importantly, there was no need to worry about food, which was much better compared to other human city-states.
Hermes followed Chumen forward, while also being vigilant against the Giant Race. This was a kingdom that worshipped the Giant Queen, and it was close to the Giant King's Court; it was very likely they would encounter patrols of the Giant Race.
"Eh? So fast?" Just at this moment, Hermes heard the Mr. Angel beside him let out a sound of surprise.
He followed Mr. Angel's gaze and saw a tall, thin man with long silver hair. His face was delicate, his features soft, and he was holding a stone tablet, copying those murals about the Goddess of Harvest.
