Chapter 2
Making him call me “sister” would quickly close the gap between us; once he learns the real situation of the Rabbit’s Den, I’ll just say a few kind words—problem solved!
“Alright, Nico sister, what does your company mainly do?”
Ye Qingfeng didn’t hesitate at all—he accepted this newly met sister. After all, he’d been an orphan since childhood, and he’d never spoken more than five sentences to a girl his own age…
Plus, he’d just gotten out of jail and already had a job—with a beautiful older sister as his boss. His lips curled up unconsciously; he secretly rejoiced inside.
To make it easier to shove the suitcase into Ye Qingfeng’s arms, Nico held her phone and typed a message, answering casually: “A firm. We take on client requests. You get it?”
She wasn’t the least bit afraid he might suddenly attack—he looked frail and weak. After years of mixing in the underworld, could she possibly lose to a just-turned-adult kid?
Why didn’t she just say the firm’s name? She wasn’t stupid—if Ye Qingfeng had heard the Rabbit’s Den’s reputation and walked away, what then?
“Oh oh…”
Ye Qingfeng obediently carried the suitcase, walking slowly beside Nico, never imagining the suitcase was actually a weapon.
“There are two other teammates at the firm—I’ll introduce you when we get back!”
After learning that Anbi and Billy had safely returned to the Rabbit’s Den, Nico’s tense nerves relaxed, and she quickened her pace.
Nico’s sudden acceleration left Ye Qingfeng several steps behind, and he naturally caught sight of those swaying curves and her rounded backside—he swallowed hard and hurried to follow her.
Beautiful boss? Pretty sister? Is my happy life finally starting?
On the way back to the firm with Nico, Ye Qingfeng saw a girl with cat ears, and then encountered several dolls no taller than an adult’s knee—moving dolls?
At first glance he thought it looked like a penguin, but it was kind of cute—and Nico had a similar doll hanging from her waist, green and ugly-cute.
Ye Qingfeng silently marveled at the progress of the past three years—and cat ears were awesome!
They finally arrived at their destination before night fully fell.
Ye Qingfeng followed Nico to the entrance of a firm that wasn’t luxurious but felt welcoming; above the door hung a sign bearing its name: “The Rabbit’s Den.”
Nico stole a glance at Ye Qingfeng, her heart in her throat. After a few seconds, seeing he showed no strong reaction, she exhaled deeply.
“Come in quickly!”
She cautiously scanned around, confirmed temporary safety, grabbed Ye Qingfeng’s wrist, pulled him inside, then swiftly locked the door.
The two inside heard the noise and rushed out. Seeing it was Nico, they relaxed—and then curiously sized up the young man beside her.
Ye Qingfeng also sized up the two.
The woman on the left had soft, short hair in a mesmerizing silver-gray hue. Her eyes were clear and bright, filled with a complex mix of confusion and determination.
Her skin was pale and flawless, her features delicate and petite, her proportions perfectly balanced, giving off an aura of innocence.
Oh! A loli coworker?
And this one beside her… a robot?!
His body had a metallic sheen, sleek lines radiating high-tech elegance, with a cool silver-and-black color scheme. His head was exquisitely designed, his electronic eyes glimmering with lively light, and he sported flowing silver hair.
I was only inside for three years—has technology advanced this fast?!
Ye Qingfeng’s gaze lingered on the robot to his right, his brow furrowed, his eyes brimming with curiosity.
“Nico boss! Who’s this guy? A client?”
Billy noticed Ye Qingfeng’s stare and asked Nico, puzzled.
“His name is Ye Qingfeng—he’s joining our Rabbit’s Den now!”
Nico pointed at Ye Qingfeng to introduce him, her tone brimming with pride, then turned to introduce her two seniors.
“This is Anbi Demara—just call her Anbi. Don’t be fooled by how spacey she looks… she’s actually very reliable!”
“He’s Billy Chide—just call him Billy.”
Ye Qingfeng, quick on his feet, stepped forward, bowed slightly, and offered a warm smile as he shook hands with each of them in turn.
After all, first impressions matter.
“Nice to meet you! Anbi senior, you look about my age but already working—you’re exactly the kind of person I want to catch up to!
If you don’t mind, just call me by my name—or Qingfeng, if you prefer, haha…”
Anbi watched Ye Qingfeng approach, a flicker of caution in her eyes. She saw him bending low, sparing her the need to look up.
Hearing his words, her caution eased slightly. When he finished, she nodded slowly, dumbly, in response.
“Billy senior! Please take care of me in the future!
Look at those fingers—so nimble, that shell so smooth—you clearly take great care of yourself. Senior, you really know how to maintain yourself!
You can call me by my full name or just Qingfeng…”
“Hahaha! Qingfeng, you’ve got good eyes! No need to be so formal—just call me Billy. I’ll guide you—do your best!”
Billy happily clapped Ye Qingfeng on the shoulder—if a likeability meter existed, it would’ve jumped +20!
“Um… are you a robot?”
After his observations and the feel of their handshake, Ye Qingfeng was fairly certain Billy was a robot—but still asked tentatively.
“Huh? Isn’t it obvious? Of course I’m a robot! What’s so strange about that?”
Billy was puzzled by the question but gave a clear answer.
“No no!”
Ye Qingfeng quickly shook his head, again marveling at how fast technology had advanced…
“Qingfeng just got released from the Public Security Bureau—he probably doesn’t know what’s happened recently. Let’s all head to the living room and chat.”
Nico explained for Ye Qingfeng, now calling him “Qingfeng”—since he was her little brother, she could call him whatever she liked!
Anbi and Billy, still puzzled, sat down on the living room sofa. Ye Qingfeng casually glanced around and sat down behind them.
The so-called firm was just a house. Walk in the front door, and you immediately saw the living room: two simple long sofas, and one slightly more luxurious single armchair.
In the center stood a long glass-topped table—clearly, this room was meant for receiving guests…
Nico sat alone on the single armchair, relaxing with one leg crossed over the other. Billy and Anbi shared one of the long sofas.
Since they’d only just met, Ye Qingfeng didn’t casually sit with either of them—he sat alone on the empty sofa.
While Ye Qingfeng was observing the living room, Nico had already explained to the others why he’d been locked up.
