Chapter 3: Human Relations and Smooth Onboarding

~6 min read 1,144 words

“Qingfeng, you’re the best!” Billy gave Ye Qingfeng a thumbs-up.

“Qingfeng, have some water…” Anbi’s gaze and tone had softened slightly; she poured him a cup of cold water from a tea set on the table.

Ye Qingfeng, taken aback, picked up the cup and drank it down in one gulp—half the water remained.

Anbi, expressionless, refilled it again; Ye Qingfeng, ever polite, drank it down once more, and the two repeated this motion over and over.

Nico watched this scene with deep satisfaction—yes! This was how love could soften him; he’d surely stay!

Nico deeply admired this younger brother, and wished he’d stay—but if he later insisted on leaving, she wouldn’t stop him…

“Cough, cough!”

After a moment, Nico judged the timing right and cleared her throat twice, drawing the attention of all three.

“Qingfeng, since you haven’t officially joined yet, let me tell you about the basic situation of the Rabbit’s Den, and then you can think it over carefully.”

Ye Qingfeng was deeply moved—how rare to have a boss who truly cared for his employees! He looked at Nico with eager anticipation, waiting for her to continue.

“Since it’s an agency, we take on commissions to earn money. When there are no commissions, you can do whatever you like—so, relatively speaking, it’s very free…”

“And we provide meals and lodging, plus the agency has tremendous room for growth…”

Nico went on enthusiastically listing the benefits, deliberately omitting any mention of salary, while watching Ye Qingfeng’s expression—he kept nodding in satisfaction.

It was clear: his joining was a foregone conclusion.

“Nico, you haven’t mentioned anything about salary,” Anbi said softly, frowning slightly.

In her mind, she recalled movie scenes of characters with tragic childhoods, enduring hardship after hardship, finally rising to success.

But Ye Qingfeng was different—he’d barely escaped that life, thinking he’d climb toward the peak, only to be lured here by Nico to the Rabbit’s Den.

Instantly, he’d fallen back into the abyss…

“Hahaha, oh right! How could I forget that!”

Nico shot Anbi an annoyed glance and let out an awkward chuckle.

Her explanation rang hollow…

Billy and Anbi exchanged a glance—they were certain now: Ye Qingfeng had been tricked here by Nico somehow, and likely had no idea of the Rabbit’s Den’s true state.

“Nico, you can’t… Qingfeng’s such a good guy…”

Billy, unable to bear seeing Ye Qingfeng led astray, spoke up urgently.

Nico’s cute face flushed slightly—was she trying to deceive Ye Qingfeng? The Rabbit’s Den was barely hanging on, teetering on the edge of bankruptcy.

And they’d only just met him—why were they so quick to side with him? Fine, Billy, she could understand—but why Anbi too?!

Whatever… at least he calls me “sister.”

I’ll just tell him the truth. Let fate decide whether he stays or goes.

“Qingfeng, I’ll be honest with you—the Rabbit’s Den is short on funds right now. We can only pay salary when we have money.”

“So whether you stay or leave is up to you. Of course, if you choose to stay, we warmly welcome you—we won’t let you starve. But if you choose to leave… I’ll…”

“Bang!”

Ye Qingfeng slammed his palm on the table, the loud crash cutting off Nico’s words; his voice rose with emotion:

“Sister Nico! What kind of talk is that?!

Didn’t you say that meeting is fate? I just escaped that place, and you still let me join your company—and you told me the truth outright, without a single lie!

Such an agency can’t be found anywhere else. So if you don’t mind, I’ll stay!”

Ye Qingfeng wasn’t foolish. With Anbi and Billy’s hints, and the complete silence on salary, he’d already guessed the agency was struggling financially.

At least meals and lodging were covered—he’d just escaped and this was already better than he deserved. And “short on funds”? That’s nothing!

If everyone works hard, they’ll rise to the peak again!

Nico felt overwhelming relief and emotion; her admiring gaze lingered openly on Ye Qingfeng—how well he spoke! Far better than those two!

Moved as she was, and admiring as she was, the urgent task now was to get him to sign the contract!

“Not at all! Not at all! Come quickly, sign the contract!”

Nico pulled out a contract and a pen nearly out of ink from the desk drawer, placing them before him, urging him with eager anticipation.

Ye Qingfeng quickly scanned the contract—no issues, perfectly normal, even a bit crude, with only a few lines of text; the last clause read:

In case of special circumstances or reasons, you may leave at any time without conditions.

He didn’t hesitate—he signed his name on the contract.

“Qingfeng, aside from being broke, the Rabbit’s Den will satisfy you in every other way—for example…”

After Ye Qingfeng officially joined the Rabbit’s Den, Billy immediately sat close beside him, enthusiastically listing all the benefits.

Ye Qingfeng listened carefully, nodding occasionally.

“What can you do? What are your hobbies? What foods do you like?”

Anbi also moved over, squeezing in beside Ye Qingfeng, her eyes bright with curiosity.

Nico turned her attention fully to Ye Qingfeng.

“I don’t have any particular hobbies, nor any favorite foods…”

It was the truth. Raised in an orphanage, he’d always struggled to survive—no chance to cultivate hobbies, and he never picked at food.

Nico’s eyes sparkled—no hobbies meant he wouldn’t waste money; no favorite foods meant he was easy to feed.

What a lucky day! Such a perfect employee—she’d hit the jackpot!

“Here, take five thousand Ding Ni!”

“You just came out—you probably have no money. Don’t be polite with me!”

PS: 100 Ding Ni = 1 RMB

Nico smiled broadly and handed Ye Qingfeng a bag of Ding Ni.

She usually winced at spending even one Ding Ni.

But honestly, five thousand Ding Ni wasn’t much—thankfully, they’d just completed a commission today; otherwise, she could’ve only scraped together five hundred, and wouldn’t have dared show it…

Ding… Ni?

Something’s wrong. Extremely wrong.

Three years can’t have turned Mao’s portrait into Ding Ni!

No way… did I get reincarnated?

【Ding! Correct! I’m your personal assistant—you can call me System.】

A voice suddenly echoed in Ye Qingfeng’s mind; his expression shifted from shock to even greater shock.

He blinked—and he’d been reincarnated?!

And anyone who’s been reincarnated before knows:

The biggest fear upon arriving in a new world is leaving your old browser history behind—but luckily, his new phone hadn’t even been used yet before he came here…

How wonderful! How wonderful… ugh… sob…

“Um… Ding Ni is a bit low. How about I add three thousand more?”

Nico noticed Ye Qingfeng’s face flickering with changing expressions, and scratched her cheek awkwardly, asking tentatively.

“N-no problem…”

Ye Qingfeng quickly refocused on the outside world, picking up the bag of Ding Ni on the table under the gaze of the three.
