Chapter 49: Brother Zhe, Please Don
Ye Qingfeng’s head spun from oxygen deprivation, compounded by the incessant prompts echoing in his mind.
“Ling... sorry, I didn’t mean to pin you down.”
Ye Qingfeng forced himself to stand, legs unsteady, body swaying as if a gentle breeze could knock him over.
“No!”
Ling felt the weight lift from her, a faint trace of longing flickering in her eyes.
If Qingfeng would deliberately pin me down—wouldn’t that be even better! (?????)
“That, Zhe... are you alright...?” Ye Qingfeng, realizing Ling didn’t mind the contact, remembered Zhe lying injured, and turned toward him.
(I am the legendary rope-crafter Phaethon, severely wounded on the ground...)
Zhe, who had just taken a heavy punch to the waist from Ling, looked at him as if nothing had happened.
But Zhe’s gaze sent an inexplicable chill through Ye Qingfeng. “Uh... good you’re alright...”
“It’s all Brother’s fault!” Ling bounced over to Ye Qingfeng like a little rabbit, glaring fiercely at Zhe. “You kept clamping your hand over Qingfeng’s mouth and wouldn’t let go—I was just trying to save him, and hitting you hurt me more than it hurt you!”
Worried Ye Qingfeng thought she was violent, she hurried to explain, eager to leave a good impression.
“I’m fine, Qingfeng...”
Zhe completely ignored Ling’s hostile glare, fixated only on the fact that he had just cared for him.
Thinking of it, Zhe’s gaze softened involuntarily. “By the way, Qingfeng! I saved a documentary I’ve wanted to watch for ages—let’s watch it together later!”
“Wait! Qingfeng should watch the new romance film with me instead!!”
Hearing Zhe try to steal Ye Qingfeng away from her, Ling immediately protested, wrapping her arms around his arm to claim ownership, then shooting her brother a defiant look.
“Qingfeng, you’ll agree with me, right!”
Ling tugged gently on Ye Qingfeng’s arm, then blinked up at him with wide, glistening eyes, her pink lips pouting.
So cute!
Ye Qingfeng’s gaze snapped to her instantly—her luminous eyes brimming with longing, her pouting lips like ripe cherries, plump and irresistible.
Seeing she had captured his attention, Ling pressed her advantage, convinced Zhe’s earlier look had been suspicious.
“Please, Qingfeng-brother~~!”
She squeezed his arm tighter, deliberately softening her voice.
Ye Qingfeng’s heart jolted—a warm pressure seeped through his clothes, sending a tingling numbness racing up his arm.
Her sweet, mellow voice, perfectly sugary, like a kitten purring and lightly scratching at his heart.
“Wait!!”
He opened his mouth to agree—when Zhe shouted.
“Qingfeng definitely wants to watch the documentary with me!”
Zhe lunged forward, grabbing Ye Qingfeng’s other wrist, trying to pull him away from Ling.
“No! Qingfeng would never watch a documentary—he’ll watch the romance film with me!”
Sensing Zhe’s deep hostility and feeling Ye Qingfeng slowly slipping from her grasp, Ling grabbed his forearm and yanked hard.
“What’s so great about romance films?!”
Zhe tightened his grip in response.
“Documentaries are the ones that are boring!”
Ling pulled with all her strength, dragging Ye Qingfeng toward her.
Both stared at Ye Qingfeng, neither willing to yield an inch.
Ye Qingfeng turned to Ling, then to Zhe.
His head throbbed—no matter who he chose, he’d be wrong.
And something felt off...
This scene felt strangely familiar... Wasn’t this exactly what happened when he first met Mao You?
He hadn’t activated his Animal Charm Body yet! And these two aren’t Xiren!
The pulling from both sides intensified—clearly, time was running out.
He ventured cautiously: “Uh... what if we watch a romance documentary together?”
“No!”
“No!”
Ling and Zhe shouted in unison.
The next instant, they glared daggers at each other.
“Only if Qingfeng agrees to watch with me! But not all three of us!”
“Exactly, exactly!”
Zhe agreed.
Ye Qingfeng sighed helplessly—why had these two siblings suddenly become so in sync?
“Uh...”
Their commotion made him forget his original purpose. “I came to pick up something I left here, and I wanted to invite you both to dinner at the Hare’s Den...”
“No!”
“Qingfeng, first tell us who you want to watch with!”
Ye Qingfeng grimaced. “I’m cooking.”
“Let’s go! I’ve got everything!”
Zhe dashed into the room and returned moments later, two bags in hand.
“I’m driving! Hurry up!”
Ling stood behind the video store, keys in hand, watching Ye Qingfeng.
At least they stopped fighting—that’s a relief.
He could understand Ling acting like this—she’s a girl—but why was Zhe like this too?
Ye Qingfeng seriously suspected Zhe and Ling had Xiren blood—otherwise, why would this be identical to when he met Mao You?
Though not as... extreme as Mao You yet?
Probably because his Animal Charm Body is shut down...
One was manageable... but two together? He couldn’t handle it.
He’d better avoid spending time with these two in the future—it was torture.
“Then let’s go...”
Ye Qingfeng, drained, followed Ling into the car. Zhe, after stowing the bags in the trunk, unsurprisingly started arguing with her again.
“Since Sister says you’re driving, I’ll ride in the back with Qingfeng!”
“I just remembered—I’m a terrible driver. Brother should drive.”
So annoying! These two!
If only he knew how to drive, he’d take the wheel himself.
“Then you sit in the back!” Ling darted over to Ye Qingfeng. “Qingfeng, can you drive? I’ll sit shotgun and help you watch the traffic lights!”
“How can Qingfeng drive? I’ll drive!” Zhe snatched the keys from Ling. “Qingfeng should sit shotgun—it’s more comfortable!”
“Zhe, you drive...” Ye Qingfeng, on the verge of a nervous breakdown, opened the rear door himself. “Ling, can you sit shotgun?”
“Sure!”
Zhe slid into the driver’s seat in a flash.
“Great~!” Ling settled into the passenger seat. “Drive carefully, okay? Don’t make Qingfeng carsick!”
Ye Qingfeng just wanted quiet rest—he closed his eyes, striving to empty his mind.
Seeing this, Zhe and Ling fell silent. The car glided smoothly toward the Hare’s Den.
The chaos had ended—but Ye Qingzhi, who had witnessed the entire scene through Ye Qingfeng’s perspective, sank into deep silence.
Seeing that Zhe and Ling had a 60% affinity toward Ye Qingfeng, she quietly erased the previous settings she had assigned to them—though she retained a small amount for Ling.
Mainly because she truly couldn’t bear to see Ling and Ye Qingfeng later...
