Chapter 63: Anbi

~6 min read 1,025 words

Ye Qingfeng had always thought strolling the streets was a free and easy thing, but today he felt like a monkey in a zoo—every passerby turned to glance at him twice.

He wanted nothing more than to turn right around and go back; the reason was the constant burden clinging to his side.

Earlier, when seated on the sofa, Anbi had been able to link arms with him, but now that he stood, unless she tiptoed constantly, the height difference made it impossible to hold his arm.

So Anbi switched to holding hands—but not just any hold; it was fingers intertwined.

This was Ye Qingfeng’s first time holding hands with a girl in this way. If he had to describe how it felt, it was soft? Warm?

He didn’t blush or feel his heart race, but he was still a little shy—yet Anbi seemed utterly calm, as natural as eating when hungry.

Still, he couldn’t help thinking this might be too intimate...

He didn’t want to let go, but he also knew it wasn’t good for her—he truly believed that.

So he gently told her it wasn’t appropriate for her to do this.

But Anbi said one sentence that made him willingly keep holding her hand—truth really was the ultimate weapon!

“Don’t you like it like this, Qingfeng?”

With those clear, wide eyes and the pure white dress, Ye Qingfeng was rendered speechless—he admitted he’d truly been moved by Anbi.

If his feelings for Zhu Yuan were simple affection, what he felt for Anbi now was something indescribable, stirring memories of the first time his heart had ever trembled.

Huh... he couldn’t imagine this simple, adorable girl ever becoming someone else’s...

Thus, on an ordinary street, a pair appeared—a boy and girl with a heart-melting height difference, radiating striking cuteness and hands clasped tightly together, unmistakable proof of their closeness.

Ye Qingfeng and Anbi walked through the stares of onlookers until they reached the supermarket.

Ye Qingfeng pulled Anbi quickly inside, finally escaping the gaze of passersby—only to find every shopper inside staring at them in unison.

Out of the tiger’s den, into the wolf’s lair...

He considered himself, aside from decent looks, only skilled in a few messy, half-baked abilities—nothing worth showing off.

He’d never imagined what it felt like to be watched by so many—he’d always thought such things were far beyond him. Now he knew.

An odd sensation he couldn’t name—he could endure it, pretend not to care—but the goosebumps on his skin didn’t lie.

Clearly, he wasn’t suited for any job or situation that drew crowds of stares.

Ye Qingfeng grabbed a shopping cart with Anbi, but one hand made it hard to control—though he didn’t understand why she clung so tightly, he respected it, and groceries still had to be bought.

“Anbi...” Ye Qingfeng tried to persuade her to let go, “How about you hold onto my clothes instead? You can’t push the cart with one hand...”

“No.”

Anbi remembered Nico’s words and refused to let go—no matter what.

Nico: ? Did I say that?

“But if I can’t buy groceries, you won’t get any hamburgers!”

Seeing this, Ye Qingfeng pulled out his ultimate tactic—the lure of hamburgers.

Anbi’s pupils dilated instantly; she released his hand, snatched it away, then grabbed his sleeve instead. “Fine... but! After we buy groceries, you keep holding my hand!”

...What now? Suddenly, sweet, clueless Anbi had become clingy! So adorable—!

Clueless... and loves to cling? Could Anbi actually be a lazy slime?

Impossible—but—

It felt like a cat that always ignored you suddenly becoming glued to you—there was an inexplicably wonderful thrill!

Ye Qingfeng now only wanted to finish shopping fast, then leave the supermarket and keep holding Anbi’s soft, boneless little hand.

He pushed the cart quickly, selecting what he needed—groceries, plus some random snacks.

Of course, not too many—Nico would be the first to complain.

He took Anbi first to buy the next few days’ groceries; she stayed quiet, silently following. Afterward, he wheeled the cart to the snack aisle.

“Anything you want?”

Ye Qingfeng casually picked up two bags of snacks from the shelf, glanced at them, then dropped them into the cart.

Anbi pretended to hesitate. “Hmm... hamburgers!”

“There are no hamburgers in the snack aisle!”

Ye Qingfeng slowly pushed the cart, planning to browse the snack section—then he spotted actual hamburgers on the shelf.

“Wait, they really do have hamburgers!”

They weren’t real hamburgers—just gummy candies shaped like them. Ye Qingfeng assumed she’d dislike these, but when he glanced at Anbi, she looked genuinely interested.

Ye Qingfeng smirked, holding the candy up in front of her and wiggling it. “Want it?”

Perfect chance to find out why she’d been acting so strange today.

“Yes!”

Anbi stared fixedly at the candy, her eyes brimming with longing—clearly, she adored hamburgers.

“Do you have Ding Ni with you?”

Anbi instinctively patted the spot where she usually kept Ding Ni—but this white dress had no pockets at all.

“No...”

Her eyes instantly dimmed; her voice dropped to a quiet whisper.

Ye Qingfeng watched her go through the whole routine exactly as he’d predicted, silently grumbling—she’s way too easy to read...

“Then do you want it?”

A voice full of temptation drifted into Anbi’s ears; without hesitation, she answered: “Yes!”

“Answer me one question, and I’ll buy it for you. Deal?”

“Mm!”

Anbi nodded like a well-behaved kindergarten child, sweetly agreeing.

“Why did you suddenly hold my hand today?”

Ye Qingfeng leaned down suddenly, bringing his face within two centimeters of hers—her warm breath brushed his cheek, yet she showed no sign of discomfort.

He felt that even if he kissed her right now, she wouldn’t pull away—she was bound to him by some unspoken reason.

It made him feel shy himself...

But now he was even more curious about why she’d done this.

“Is it Ni—”

At such close range, meeting his gaze, Anbi showed no panic—but as she opened her mouth to speak, she suddenly froze. Her firm expression wavered instantly.
