Chapter 71: Dragon and Phoenix Killers?

~6 min read 1,162 words

Zhu Yuan had just driven into the intersection of 11th Street, thinking that if Qingyi still hadn’t woken up by the time they arrived, she’d be deeply troubled.

She’d have no choice but to use some special methods to wake her—she’d already thought of several foolproof techniques—when suddenly, she woke up.

Zhu Yuan felt relieved, yet also a little disappointed; after all, she’d long wanted to try two of those methods...

“Qingyi, you’re finally awake!”

“Mmm... it was sent back to me by my great-grandmother...”

“Is this one of those viral jokes lately?”

“...Pretty much.”

Besides the reason of her great-grandmother, Qingyi had woken so quickly thanks to the sudden, inexplicable chill that had risen in her—making her feel that if she didn’t wake up immediately, something terrible would happen.

Not something like the world exploding, but something worse than death—like being stripped naked and hung on a utility pole...

Though she didn’t believe anyone would dare assault a police officer while Zhu Yuan was still present, that piercing chill had forced her to wake up so swiftly.

“Zhu Yuan... you’re not allowed to drive like that—WHAT?!”

Qingyi had just prepared to scold Zhu Yuan for her reckless driving when the sudden brake sent her body lurching forward—yet because she was buckled in, her forehead stopped just two centimeters from impact.

The residual inertia then threw her violently backward, slamming her hard against the seatback without any doubt.

A stream of liquid trickled from the corner of Qingyi’s mouth, dripping down her chin onto her clothes—this was obviously not saliva! It was the tea she’d drunk before leaving...

She suddenly felt grateful she was a robot... with all that drifting and braking, at least she didn’t need to eat food; if she were human, she’d have thrown up long before reaching the station, and her soul probably wouldn’t have made it back...

Qingyi’s face darkened as she prepared to say something, then turned to see Zhu Yuan had already opened the car door and run out.

Through the window, she clearly saw Ye Qingfeng by the roadside, Zhu Yuan standing beside him barehanded, and the two suspects crouched on the ground.

Hmph... women! Men are like brothers and sisters are like clothes, right?!

Qingyi casually wiped the moisture from her lips, grabbed a short baton, and opened the car door, walking toward Zhu Yuan. With a flick of her wrist, the baton instantly elongated into a long staff—more than that, it had two joints; twist it in the middle, and it became a three-section staff.

Unlike Zhu Yuan, who was so careless, Qingyi knew the two suspects were still crouched nearby—yet she’d already started chatting with Ye Qingfeng. What if they suddenly attacked? For safety’s sake, she’d better draw her weapon first.

Back to Zhu Yuan’s perspective.

Zhu Yuan had spotted Ye Qingfeng from afar; after a sharp brake, she leapt out of the car and sprinted to his side, her face filled with worry: “Qingfeng, are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?”

She had completely forgotten the two suspects still crouched by the roadside.

Ye Qingfeng had thought the distance from Guangying Square to 11th Street was fairly far—it should’ve taken at least ten minutes! Yet barely five minutes after making the call, he saw a police car screech to a halt before him.

And from the moment the police car entered his line of sight until it stopped right in front of him, only five seconds had passed...

He himself was startled by this sudden action, let alone the two suspects—who, seeing the police car barreling toward them, thought they were about to be killed to silence them. The bystander B, who had just woken up, turned to flee—but Bystander A grabbed him by the collar and yanked him back down to the ground.

Not bad for a guy’s level of awareness...

“Huh? Why would you think that?”

As for whether he was injured, Ye Qingfeng glanced down at his unharmed body and instinctively asked back.

“Is that so... good that you’re unharmed!”

Zhu Yuan looked up at the clinic behind him, her brow slightly furrowed, lips pressed thin—she must’ve been hiding it to spare her worry...

Otherwise, why would he be standing outside a clinic? He must’ve gotten a minor injury while subduing the two suspects, paused noticeably right after calling her—probably reading the clinic’s name.

Then he went to treat the wound, but seeing he looked fine, Zhu Yuan quietly exhaled in relief—though when she thought of the two suspects who’d caused his injury, she glared at them fiercely.

As if to say: You’re both dead.

The two suspects reacted differently to Zhu Yuan’s glare.

Bystander B: “What do we do, big brother? Should we run?”

Bystander A: “Run? Are you kidding? Don’t you see that’s Zhu Yuan from the Public Security Bureau’s Special Operations Unit?”

Bystander B: “So what? If we don’t run now, we won’t get another chance!!”

Bystander A: “Normally, only regular cops show up for this kind of call. We never expected her to come... we can’t escape! When she arrives, apologize sincerely! Try to get that guy to forgive you!”

He’d thought he’d just dialed a regular emergency number—not a personal call!

With such a lightning-fast response, plus Zhu Yuan’s tender concern—there’s no doubt this guy has connections! And not just ordinary ones—his backer is definitely someone beyond his reach...

Though Bystander A kept insisting they couldn’t run, Bystander B still twitched with the urge to flee—then they noticed another person stepping out of the police car.

To Bystander B, she was just a kid—completely harmless!

But Bystander A, seeing the green-haired, twin-tailed little girl, immediately averted his gaze and bowed his head deeply—in the Public Security Bureau, these two were infamous among thugs!

The Dragon and Phoenix Killers!!

Bystander A was just about to warn Bystander B not to do anything stupid when he turned—and saw him suddenly spring up and sprint toward the alley where they’d been arrested.

Before he’d taken more than a few steps, a long staff sliced through the air with a sharp whistle, striking him squarely on the back.

The force shattered his balance, sending him crashing to the ground—but even then, he struggled to rise again.

The alley entrance was less than a meter away!

Heavy footsteps pounded behind him like a death knell—he was about to step into the alley when a powerful gust of wind whistled past his ear, followed by a blinding pain to the back of his skull—he collapsed forward, eyes going black.

Qingyi’s expression remained calm as she spun her staff, then turned toward them with quiet anticipation—only to find they hadn’t even glanced at her, still chatting away by the roadside!!!

Normally, Zhu Yuan would’ve said: “Thank you, Senior Qingyi!”

She’d done that staff flourish specifically hoping to see Ye Qingfeng’s admiring gaze—or at least a look of surprise! But nothing!

She might as well have been invisible!

Angry! (?°?д°?)
