Chapter 72: Qingyi

~7 min read 1,210 words

Qingyi believed she understood Zhu Yuan quite well—so well, in fact, that on certain minor details, she knew her better than Zhu Yuan knew herself, such as her bust-waist-hip measurements!

Her measurements were transmitted to her database through her camera—her eyes—and after simple calculations, her data was derived with precision to two decimal places.

Simply put, Qingyi was, aside from Zhu Yuan herself, the person who knew her best!

Likewise, to Zhu Yuan, Qingyi was the closest person after her parents!

Qingyi could clearly see that since Zhu Yuan had met this fellow named Ye Qingfeng, he had suddenly taken up a significant place in her heart.

Qingyi couldn’t say who replaced whom, but Ye Qingfeng’s position in Zhu Yuan’s heart had already reached parity with her own—and in some moments, even surpassed it.

Her overthinking wasn’t just due to jealousy, though of course... the main reason Ye Qingfeng had entered her line of sight, beyond jealousy, was intense curiosity.

Based on her understanding of Zhu Yuan, the chance of love at first sight was extremely low—not a guess, but grounded in evidence: from the types of movies and video tapes she watched, Qingyi deduced that Zhu Yuan was more inclined toward stories where the male and female leads grew up together as childhood friends, their bond naturally blossoming over time.

As far as Qingyi knew, the only person Zhu Yuan had been close to since childhood—and still kept in contact with—was the chief of H.S.O.S.6 (Air Division Six): the daughter of the Starview family!

One of the Seven Void Hunters! (The title “Void Hunter” is awarded to only seven individuals who have reached the peak of Hollow combat power or made major contributions.)

Miss Starview Ya!

According to Qingyi’s knowledge, their relationship was merely that of ordinary friends, so she had already ruled out the possibility of childhood sweethearts.

There’s a line in a famous detective drama: eliminate all impossibilities, and whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

Zhu Yuan had fallen in love with Ye Qingfeng at first sight!!

But Qingyi knew that every so often, men would actively approach Zhu Yuan—some were sons of financial tycoons or high-ranking officials, and many of them were handsome.

All of them showed clear interest in Zhu Yuan, yet she politely turned them all down.

Qingyi had initially watched with amusement, but later realized that no matter who came, not one had ever made Zhu Yuan blush.

She had grown so used to it that she once thought Zhu Yuan might, in a few years, appear on a matchmaking website.

But Ye Qingfeng had occupied Zhu Yuan’s heart with terrifying speed—by the time Qingyi noticed, he had already taken up a substantial place within her.

Perhaps because Qingyi had seen so many men who, after Zhu Yuan rejected them, vanished completely—some even those she had helped, like one man who pursued her relentlessly for six months.

He came every two days, bringing gifts or inviting her to shop, yet after half a year, he still hadn’t even gotten her contact information.

For those with powerful backgrounds, their interest in Zhu Yuan was purely about her looks and figure; even if rejected, they didn’t care—they could just find another woman.

And what chance would the next powerless woman have of refusal?

Zhu Yuan was lucky to have a friend named Starview—and the high command held great expectations for her as a rising star in the Public Security Bureau; otherwise...

(The author merely wishes to portray authentic characters, not this kind of dark plotline—everyone should understand the general intent; this novel’s sole focus is daily life and romance.)

All the men Qingyi had seen before pursued Zhu Yuan in nearly identical ways: first gifts, then invitations; if gifts failed, the next ones were more expensive!

Some even sent Ding Ni directly to Zhu Yuan...

Who would dare accept such things? Zhu Yuan wasn’t just a young girl—she was also a Public Security Bureau officer. Ding Ni was received in the morning; the man was gone by afternoon...

After witnessing countless such incidents, Qingyi wasn’t surprised when men suddenly appeared beside Zhu Yuan—or rather, she considered it perfectly normal.

Because Zhu Yuan, by nature kind, often inspired affection in the men she helped, who then pursued her—only the duration of their persistence varied.

Zhu Yuan had always placed her career first, her personal emotions second.

And yet this Zhu Yuan—who had just abandoned two suspects to check whether a man was injured?!

This shattered Qingyi’s long-held view of Zhu Yuan.

The culprit behind all this, Ye Qingfeng, now drew even greater attention from her: how had he managed to enter Zhu Yuan’s heart?

She didn’t oppose Zhu Yuan having a boyfriend—only...

What exactly did she lack compared to Zhu Yuan? Huh?!!

Since becoming Zhu Yuan’s partner, countless men had pursued her—yet not one had ever looked at Qingyi.

Am I really that terrible?

I didn’t feel anything when we were both single, enjoying each other’s company—yet in just one month, she was swept away?

Now, if someone told me they were already together, I wouldn’t find it strange at all.

I understand the logic—but why didn’t anyone notice her?

Though she may not be as thoughtful as Zhu Yuan, her figure can’t compare, and her body is cold, mechanical.

But her appearance isn’t even that much worse than Zhu Yuan’s!!

Even so, if someone actually pursued her, she’d probably say: “Perverted lolicon? Already decided you won’t be able to do it for three years?”

And she’d look at them with the eyes of someone staring at garbage.

Qingyi’s current mindset was exactly that of someone who was happily single, enjoying life—until suddenly learning her best friend was about to get a boyfriend.

And then discovering that she herself was still unclaimed?!

It’s not psychological distortion... just like eating a lemon...

So sour!

The more Qingyi thought about it, the more miserable she felt; finally, she sighed deeply. Her immediate priority was to bring the two suspects back to the station. She grabbed the back collar of Bystander B and dragged him over to Bystander A.

She released Bystander B’s collar and pulled out a pair of silver handcuffs. Bystander A cooperated immediately, putting them on himself without being told, then grabbed his companion’s collar with one hand, grinning obsequiously, eager to please.

Qingyi didn’t stop Bystander A’s actions—she was confident that at such close range, they couldn’t escape—but she didn’t lower her guard.

“Didn’t expect suspects today to have such high ideological awareness,” Qingyi gestured for Bystander A to walk ahead, pointing toward the police car, and said coolly:

“A wise man adapts to circumstances. In your current situation, don’t even think of playing tricks—it’ll only add to your crimes.”

“Of course we understand, Officer Qingyi!”

Bystander A bowed deeply.

What do you think of the current pacing? Too fast or too slow?

PS: Should I pull for Eveleen 01 or for Big Anbi and Trigger?

There’s a kid sister, but no Light.

There’s Jia Yin and 11 Starview Ya; Jian and Shark Girl are both 01.

And 10 Wolf Uncle.
