Chapter 111: Luo Qi's Conscience
"Base station!" Luo Qi shouted the moment the woman raised her phone.
He did not know if Du Zhengyi could understand, but if the other party was using WeChat to take a photo, then including the operation time, it could be sent over the network in two seconds. If it were discovered that Du Zhengyi and Luo Qi were together, the accusations Du Zhengyi made against Li Xu would become very suspicious. What Du Zhengyi had just said about the price of openly provoking Qionglin still rang in Luo Qi's ears. Du Zhengyi was the one who had shut down the defense system that Qionglin had operated for hundreds of years; once these things were linked and confirmed, Du Zhengyi would simply be the greatest villain in Qionglin's history of several hundred years. His spirit at this moment was like a taut violin string; the tension the string bore in an instant exceeded the critical value, and it snapped violently.
Luo Qi attacked that female Mage fiercely.
Although Du Zhengyi was not a Mind Mage, because Luo Qi would often inadvertently spill out some Mind Force, he had already become familiar with Luo Qi's consciousness; it was like a string ensemble existing just outside the range of hearing. Not listening with ears, but with consciousness, the melody was smooth and lively, the gentle vibration on violin strings, occasionally progressing with a three-beat rotating scherzo. When this lazy, juvenile waltz suddenly turned into Wagner and Beethoven, Du Zhengyi was truly startled.
He could almost see that surging power sweeping upward like a force destroying dry weeds and smashing rotten wood; he could almost not keep up with the speed of this Mind Force. He saw Luo Qi staring fixedly at the woman as if holding his breath—a Combat Mage who, according to Mahjong, might be named Wen Lin—and the phone in that woman's hand dropped to the ground, her face turning into a blank slate, as if someone had formatted her brain.
Most women are more adept at Telepathy than men, just as most human females have more sensitive sixth senses than men. Combat Mages all have some Telepathy ability to a greater or lesser extent, which is stronger than that of male Mages, at least enough to maintain a decent Shield. But that was of no use in front of Luo Qi, and Luo Qi's strike was almost completely without reservation, as if a frightened little animal were attacking hysterically. But to call it a frightened little animal depends on what kind of animal; deep in Luo Qi's heart, he might always consider himself a little chick, yet in the energy-based world model, he was entirely a dragon!
What could be more terrifying than a dragon thinking it is a little chick that everyone can bully? Du Zhengyi took a deep breath, hoping Wen Lin was a lucky person who could survive this wave of Luo Qi's attack. He released a wave of energy to form an invisible Shield on Luo Qi's flank, blocking the attack from Wen Lin's companion.
This attack did not seem remarkable to Du Zhengyi, but it broke the rules. He caught a glimpse of the male Mage who had launched the attack; his face was full of concern and horror. Using an almost tangible attack on the street, and starting off with a Level 1 Space Distortion attack, Du Zhengyi knew he was acting out of anxious concern, and also knew he was completely terrified by Luo Qi. To all Qionglin Mages, Luo Qi was a demon that did not exist in this world.
Brushing against the edge of the energy, outside Du Zhengyi's Shield, a metal trash can turned into debris. Du Zhengyi caught a glimpse on the other side of a strong man watching them gloomily; Du Zhengyi recognized him, Chi Yu, a senior Battle Mage. They had never had much interaction, but it was said that Chi Yu did not get along with anyone and was a famous bad-tempered baboon among Battle Mages. In the past, some scumbags would compare him to Chi Yu, the reason being that they were both equally moody, hot-tempered, and had highly controversial characters. This idiot himself had also played a role in fueling the flames; it was said that he had stated on many occasions that Du Zhengyi was nothing special, nothing special at all.
Du Zhengyi never cared what others said, but he was still quite angry when he heard that he was categorized with a baboon. He had thought about simply teaching this muscle-bound Mage who didn't know his place a lesson, but he worried that others would say the two Mages with the worst reputations were already so bad that they couldn't even tolerate each other.
Now, Chi Yu was completely indifferent to his companion's trouble, merely observing coldly. Du Zhengyi knew he was looking for an opportunity. There wouldn't only be the three of them hunting them here; he didn't know how their tracks had been detected by Qionglin so quickly, but it was certain that as time passed, more and more Battle Mages and Execution Mages would arrive.
"Luo Qi," Du Zhengyi murmured in the depths of his consciousness.
For Luo Qi, everything was a simple instant; he wanted to attack that woman, and his power flowed out accordingly. In that moment, he felt very powerful, powerful and safe; he wanted the consciousness that held malice toward them to disappear fundamentally. He wanted this world to have more sense of security, with only gentle and soft consciousness. In the vision projected by his Mind Force, he transformed into a gale, wanting to destroy that heavily fortified castle; he wanted to destroy the city walls, open every wall of every room, and crush every bit of soft, fluffy consciousness hiding in every room. He wanted to raze the castle to the ground.
In another vision, he could see all the neurons in brain anatomy, all the synaptic connections; he would burn all of this to the ground with one fire, he wanted to extinguish all the fires of consciousness, leaving only a harmless body behind.
He successfully broke through the outermost wall of the castle; a force blocking the way obstructed him. That force was not worth mentioning compared to his own, but it circled him at high speed, wanting to encircle his consciousness, wanting to trap him.
Luo Qi should have torn this bit of power to shreds, but the struggle for survival within it stung him, cooling his scorching impulse slightly, and he regained a trace of calm. He hesitated for a moment, not knowing if he had done well enough, but suddenly heard someone calling him from behind his consciousness.
This familiar Mind Force was very similar to the Anchor Point he had pondered for this force in his heart. He understood instantly and retracted his claws and teeth. He felt Du Zhengyi's Consciousness Barrier lower for him again; he retreated at high speed, made brief contact with Du Zhengyi's consciousness, and immediately abandoned what he had just been doing in disgrace.
He gave up on eating Wen Lin's brain and turned back to look at Du Zhengyi in the real world. Du Zhengyi glared at him as if wanting to scold him, but didn't know how to scold him for the moment, so he looked a bit like he had a toothache.
