Chapter 147: Staying Home
Luo Qi lived honestly in the Ancient Town for over a week. Guan Xinyue also went no further than the riverside at most; with lingering fears, she never wanted to go out again. Although her enthusiasm for shopping remained undiminished, she had completely switched to online shopping, daily ordering large quantities of miscellaneous goods to the deserted small town.
Majiang continued to work hard at trying to decrypt more of the documents left behind by the Old Mage. He discovered that the remaining parts were even more difficult to decrypt. When he was idle, he continued his pastoral life. He also used Magic to accelerate the cellular growth of his plants, barely managing to make the first flower bloom.
If it weren't for the fact that Du Zhengyi was also stranded in the small town, Luo Qi would have been bored to death. The reason Du Zhengyi stayed here was nothing more than his reputation being too loud and too many people knowing him. Under the current circumstances where both the Qionglin and the Lotus Burner were looking for trouble with him, it was truly inappropriate for him to go out and be conspicuous. He could be considered a man burdened by his own fame.
Luo Qi's days in the small town began at seven o'clock every morning. Guan Xinyue and Du Zhengyi spent most of their mornings sleeping in. Majiang was used to getting up early to work and would spend the morning designing Calculation Models to unlock the documents.
During this quiet time in the morning when no one disturbed him in the small town, Luo Qi used it to read aimlessly. The task of buying breakfast fell on his shoulders. Every morning after eating breakfast, Luo Qi would sit by the window of his bedroom, open the books he had moved from the Society Library next door, and read for the whole morning.
Sometimes when Guan Xinyue woke up early, she would move to his room to play games. Recently, Guan Xinyue had become obsessed with doomsday survival games, and Luo Qi would occasionally watch her play for a while. Sometimes Guan Xinyue would also read Mage books with Luo Qi, but her interests were concentrated on the history of Mages.
But perhaps it was this recent adventure that stimulated Guan Xinyue, or perhaps she had become a little addicted to the feeling of excessive adrenaline secretion; she would lie on Luo Qi's Star Wars or superhero bedsheets and obsessively read many doomsday novels.
This would have been nothing, but if the obsession occurred in a sixteen-year-old girl who had just inherited a large fortune, then things were very different.
Guan Xinyue excitedly began her actions to cope with the end of the world and successfully integrated this panic about the apocalypse with her interest in shopping. She bought large quantities of medicine, rescue and escape equipment, wilderness survival tools, and even electric drills and chainsaws...
After Luo Qi reminded her out of a sharp tongue that there would be no electricity at all according to doomsday settings, Guan Xinyue finally bought a set of diesel generators and a large amount of diesel fuel.
This matter finally alarmed Majiang, who had been peacefully doing calculations and burying his head in planting flowers. He ran outside the town and looked at the truck unloading the diesel tanks, and his vision went black.
He directed Luo Qi to open up a courtyard by the river, stack all the diesel in the empty yard by the river, and roared at Guan Xinyue. At the end, he suddenly remembered, "Are flammable and explosive materials so easy to buy? Did you buy this on Taobao too?"
Guan Xinyue smiled and said ambiguously, "Luo Qi helped me get the purchase permit."
It took Majiang an hour to suddenly understand what the so-called purchase permit Luo Qi helped her get meant. He was furious; just reporting Luo Qi to Du Zhengyi took a full half hour.
At that time, Luo Qi was helping Guan Xinyue move the things she had bought every day, exhausted and miserable, and was using his afternoon time to desperately practice the Mind Levitation Technique that Du Zhengyi had taught him.
The original intention of Du Zhengyi letting him practice this was to hope that he could better control energy through these basic skills of an Intermediate Mage. As a result, under the pressure of urgent needs, he couldn't do anything else, but he was a dab hand at moving things. After all, Guan Xinyue had also bought two whole trucks of Nongfu Spring water; even if Luo Qi were truly a strong farmer, he would be exhausted to the point of being an idiot now.
While practicing, Luo Qi noticed that after listening to Majiang's fury, Du Zhengyi pondered for at least two minutes. With Du Zhengyi's level of intelligence, in two minutes, Luo Qi really didn't know how far he had already thought.
In the courtyard, Majiang's out-of-season flowers were blooming vigorously, and Guan Xinyue was hiding under the grape trellis in the corner of the yard, clearing her shopping list. Du Zhengyi gave it some thought and finally said awkwardly, "Otherwise, is there any other way to buy diesel?"
"Damn it," Majiang jumped up in anger, "Is that what I'm talking to you about? Besides, why buy diesel back for no reason?"
Du Zhengyi spread his hands, "Wasn't that diesel bought by Guan Xinyue?"
"This..." Majiang was stunned by anger, "The point is not there. Today, in front of Luo Qi, I have to say this: Luo Qi has no moral obstacles to controlling other people's brains. He went to buy diesel across the river with Guan Xinyue. The two of them took an A4 sheet of paper to the gas station and said it was a permit. The gas station had its cognitive abilities interfered with by Luo Qi, accepted the A4 paper, and sold them the diesel. What kind of thing is this? Not even wanting the minimum dignity of the Mage World, how is this different from cheating humans out of food?"
Du Zhengyi held a cup of tea and leaned against the window by the door, "Did they pay the gas station for the oil?"
"They did!" Majiang said angrily, "Isn't it just that the money in that girl's pocket is burning a hole, and she's uncomfortable if she doesn't throw it out?"
"Then that doesn't count as not wanting dignity," Du Zhengyi said.
"Du Zhengyi!" Majiang said accusingly.
"Alright, alright, Luo Qi did indeed control other people's brains and ignored their basic rights, but didn't Xinyue go with him? That means Xinyue knew what Luo Qi did and knew how Luo Qi did it. So although she didn't do it directly, she was an accomplice. The two went out together and conspired to buy a pile of diesel back, why only condemn Luo Qi for being dangerous?" Du Zhengyi said with a smile.
Majiang was speechless for a moment to retort him. Luo Qi laughed out loud over there and ran over in front of Majiang. Standing outside the window, he reached out and touched the teacup in Du Zhengyi's hand, "Heating the tea for you."
Luo Qi looked boastfully at the teacup in Du Zhengyi's hand as it began to steam again, "I have indeed made progress; I am indeed a genius."
Majiang wanted to roll his eyes when he heard the word genius. Du Zhengyi smiled indifferently, "So, for things the two of them did together, it's unreasonable to suspect Luo Qi of having ulterior motives just because he is more capable."
When this was said, Majiang inevitably glanced at Du Zhengyi and couldn't say anything more. Putting oneself in another's shoes, Luo Qi's situation was indeed the same as Du Zhengyi's.
Luo Qi also thought of this, grinned at Du Zhengyi through the window, revealing a mouthful of small white teeth. Majiang said "Damn it," "But seeing this kid doesn't have the slightest sense of caution, I still want to beat him up. He is different from you; you are mature and rational, and you have a bottom line. This little brat obtained power overnight; he is completely a nouveau riche!"
