Chapter 245: Seal Beast 2.0 (Part 2)

~4 min read 736 words

Luo Qi stared at those nightmare creatures, suddenly realizing that one of them was holding the hand of another. In an instant, Luo Qi had no idea which part made him more uncomfortable: their Alien-like, nauseating appearance, or their human-like way of expressing affection for one another. He would rather have seen a room full of giant bats, or even a room full of Qiongqi.

Xingyuan's terror was deeper than Luo Qi's. Once Luo Qi recovered from the initial shock, he realized that Xingyuan had been observing the Seal Beasts for a long time, and in a very systematic way. Fortunately, Luo Qi was viewing this through his memories, as if a subjective camera lens were constantly focusing on specific points of observation. It was as if a teacher were guiding him through observations in a lab class, and Luo Qi began to gain some understanding.

The Seal Beasts were unexpectedly docile; this was Luo Qi's first impression. The Qiongqi of the Qionglin even attacked Du Zhengyi. They were as stupid as French bulldogs, biting their own masters when they got agitated.

However, not all the Seal Beasts reacted in a uniform way. One, a size smaller than the other Aliens, twitched its shoulder as if it had intended to make some movement. The strongest one next to it reached out a black hand covered in scales and carapace and pressed it onto the smaller one's shoulder. Xingyuan stared fixedly at that hand, and Luo Qi was also struck with horror; this behavior was too human.

Xingyuan carefully observed every Seal Beast. There were thirty of them; twenty-two were sitting beside a large table made of wooden planks, and eight were in the depths of the room, loosely scattered in the corners.

Following Xingyuan's points of observation, Luo Qi finally noticed subtle differences between them, some in the color of their carapaces and the shape of their faceplates. But the biggest difference was that some of the Psychic Beasts had twelve tentacles extending from beneath their faceplates, while ten of the Psychic Beasts only had eight tentacles.

Based on the biological knowledge Luo Qi had gained from books in his childhood, he suspected that might represent a distinction in gender. Xingyuan's gaze fell upon the two that were clearly snuggled together, and Luo Qi could almost guess... those were the ones with six pairs of tentacles and four pairs of tentacles.

Xingyuan seemed to sway, reaching out to steady himself against the doorframe. He muttered, "At first glance, they look like super soldiers born with armor."

"Rest assured, their mind control effect is excellent, and their own cognitive abilities can ensure they accurately distinguish their targets," Luo Ruian said.

But when Xingyuan turned his head back, he discovered that his father was also avoiding the creatures in the room, not wanting to look at them at all.

"The other side also has a Mind Mage, said to be a rare high-energy Mage. Is it not possible for him to divert their attack targets?" Xingyuan asked in a low voice, but Luo Qi realized that he didn't even care about the direct answer to this question.

"No," Luo Ruian said, "their mental structure is too complex. The opposing Mind Mage cannot see through their complex structure at a glance like he could with a cat or a dog, and therefore cannot achieve control over such an unfamiliar creature during wartime."

"Complex mental structure?" Xingyuan said suddenly, indignantly. "You might as well say complex brain structure! Can't you see they are high-intelligence creatures? I won't do it! I cannot manipulate higher life forms! This is too much! Where... where on earth did they come from?"

Luo Ruian grabbed Xingyuan by the collar and yanked him out of the room. The door closed, and only then did Luo Qi, unable to see those humanoid figures, heave a sigh of relief in the mental world.

Luo Ruian stood right in front of Xingyuan. "Venerable Fan is already here, what are you still shouting about? I didn't expect Qionglin to have such Seal Beasts before he showed me this thing, but shut up. If you want to live safely until the next time you have a chance to peek, then shut up. You aren't exactly a noble person yourself, so why must you have a problem with this?"

Xingyuan's mind was in chaos, and this Yajian finally came to an end.
