Chapter 258: The Agreement of Not Saving Someone Facing Death

~4 min read 647 words

"Luo Qi," Du Zhengyi called out in a low voice.

Luo Qi was busy in the Consciousness World, and upon hearing his summons, he immediately withdrew. He calculated that about three minutes had passed in the outside world. "What is it?"

"They are testing me," Du Zhengyi said, his voice sounding as if it carried a blade.

Luo Qi did not quite understand at first, but when Du Zhengyi's second sentence came out, he realized the gravity of the situation. "Just like what I did to that Seal Beast just now."

Luo Qi was stunned for a moment, but he quickly recovered; neither his nor Du Zhengyi's spirits were particularly delicate. "They are very cunning. Didn't I tell you to treat them like you would a special forces unit?"

"Luo Qi, in dangerous moments, if you discover something, you must communicate it in the most direct way possible," Du Zhengyi said rapidly. "Are they... humanoid?"

Luo Qi licked his lips and said, rather reluctantly, "Yes."

He had never wanted to be so direct; if Du Zhengyi had overlooked it, the matter would have been settled, and it would have been enough for only him to know. Who would have thought that an Ancestor Mage would actually create higher life forms, seal them in the pitch-black underground, control their brains, and turn them into tools for slaughter? Killing a person is not the same as killing a dog, and besides, once one has climbed to the peak of civilization, even killing a dog is not so easy. "Based on my observations, they have emotions, so I didn't want to push you into a moral dilemma."

Du Zhengyi was silent for a moment; during this moment, the Alien Seal Beast did not launch any attacks, and the courtyard was deathly silent. "Luo Qi, I am a War Machine. I think much less about these things than you do. Between life and death, I will always choose life."

Luo Qi did not answer; as far as he knew, it was better to owe as little of a debt of conscience as possible. Mages lived too long and hated a heavy soul even more than humans did.

But for now, he would rather put that aside and talk about the immediate problem. "They are testing our strength, they are also retaliating against us, and it is also possible they are trying to psychologically intimidate us. Is that right?"

"If they are humanoid as you say, then all of that is possible," Du Zhengyi said, a flash of worry in his eyes. "After the probing, how do you think they intend to launch their attack?"

This question was not directed at Luo Qi; after Du Zhengyi finished speaking in a low voice, he cast a strand of Magic.

"Wait," Luo Qi hurriedly grabbed his arm. "You have to trust me, I will definitely find a way in the end."

"I am not using high-energy Magic," Du Zhengyi said. "I will not use high-energy Magic until the very last moment."

"Don't use it even at the last moment," Luo Qi said bluntly, letting go of Du Zhengyi's arm and patting it. "I'll say one last thing to you. After I finish saying this, no matter what I say, do not believe my words."

"What?" Du Zhengyi looked at Luo Qi in confusion, the half-cast Magic curling back. "What do you mean?"

"The last sentence: if I am about to die, absolutely do not save me."

"Oh, rest assured, I absolutely will not save you. Look at how much these Seal Beasts love to cling to you; they probably want to find you to lay their eggs," Du Zhengyi said, narrowing his eyes.

Luo Qi patted his shoulder and made a zipping motion across his own mouth.

Du Zhengyi forced himself to maintain his mature masculinity and did not roll his eyes at him.
