Chapter 268: The Battle of the Aliens (9)

~4 min read 740 words

Eden seemed to have existed long ago, and Mages were not the first Creators.

As his thoughts swirled, Luo Qi trance-like heard such a voice. It was not a sound, but his own thoughts; he should have long ago considered the possibility of this answer existing.

This did not conform to biological characteristics—but the moment this thought crossed his mind, Luo Qi knew he could no longer afford to dwell on it. Although they could lay several eggs at once and their reaction speed far exceeded that of lions and tigers, with such reproductive capacity and such killing efficiency, if they had existed in this world, they would indeed have devoured the entire Earth sooner or later.

But Luo Qi knew his biological knowledge could hardly be called expert; Mages were not interested in the past or the future. Humans were always full of curiosity, but their research into Earth's history was, after all, still very limited; the unknown far exceeded the known. That Aliens had existed in the ancient past would not be hard to find a reasonable explanation for. Now, Luo Qi had no time to fret over these things; he must be seeing a long-distant memory, and in this memory, perhaps he would see the battle between the Progenitor Mage and the Progenitor Alien.

Put that way, he was truly quite fortunate to have met the Progenitor Alien Queen, and even more fortunate to have had his belly sliced open by the Queen.

A wave rippled from afar through the sea of trees, and the Alien Queen stopped. Luo Qi saw the wind blowing from the depths of the dense forest, passing through the trees and leaves like a tangible force. The Queen raised her head, as if sniffing the scent in the wind. She was indeed tasting the information in the wind, only she was using her antennae. In the world of Yajian, Luo Qi directly grasped her sensations: the wind was blowing from the seaside, carrying a damp, salty tang; a storm was approaching.

The sea—did they live near the ocean?

Luo Qi recalled the scene he had seen above the rainforest; he had only seen a sea of trees, the dense canopy forming an endless ocean of trees, the humidity entwined in the rainforest appearing like mist upon the sea. Luo Qi did not remember which rainforest on Earth was a sea of trees, but he immediately thought that what he was seeing now might be the world before endless sunrises and sunsets, perhaps a time when dense rainforests were everywhere.

A clap of thunder recalled both the Alien Queen and Luo Qi to their senses; the thunder was still some distance away, but in an instant, heavy rain would condense out of the humid air. This forest was damp everywhere; the survival environment of Alien creatures seemed to have a high requirement for moisture, and Luo Qi even suspected that the mist in the Ancient Town was not to conceal the enemy's form, but simply to keep the Queen hydrated.

The Queen straightened her body on the tree branch; Luo Qi felt that their relatively light weight was very suitable for living in trees. The Alien Queen gazed into the depths of the forest, and several figures identical to her revealed themselves among the surrounding branches. Although this was only a memory, Luo Qi still instinctively felt a wave of fear when seeing so many Alien creatures.

So many—Luo Qi knew he saw the shadows of at least several hundred Alien creatures.

He shuddered. And within the Queen's mind, she was summoning all her subjects, and Luo Qi was able to see their numbers. Judging by the tribe in this forest, Luo Qi sensed over fifty thousand individuals.

His scalp tingled; he was practically trembling in the world of Yajian.

—Have you seen him this time?

This was a question, not language, just a segment of thought, like asking one's own brain.

In the world of Yajian, no individual node answered her.

—He has already come so many times, yet we have not caught a glimpse of his shadow even once. This time, we will kill him.

Several consciousnesses responded to her—We have already surrounded the temple.

—Very good.

The Queen replied. Luo Qi felt her smugness; she was self-satisfied, she was young, and she was robust. She would become the King of Kings; she would become the only king of this world.
