Chapter 292: The Assist Teammate

~4 min read 792 words

Luo Qi tried his best to figure out exactly what had happened; he was connected to thousands of souls, and with the slightest movement of a thought, his mind spun rapidly, as if thousands of brains were thinking in sync with him. In a mere instant, he had considered all sorts of situations: the possibility of the external Ghosts taking the initiative, the possibility of his old man defeating the entire mental network, the possibility of Du Zhengyi having done something reckless, whether Majiang had suddenly become heaven-defying, and even whether Fan Shi had suddenly discovered his conscience.

Dozens of possible and impossible, serious and unserious thoughts churned through his mind; he suddenly realized that his brain was working so well right now that he could indulge in wild fantasies.

"Don't move."

Even as smart as he was, it actually took him a moment to realize that Du Zhengyi was talking to him, and that his hand was pressed against his abdomen. He was like a computer with thousands of input devices plugged in, unable to keep track of which interface was his own for a moment, so he hurriedly adjusted his primary and secondary priorities.

"Don't move." Du Zhengyi crouched beside him and stopped his attempt to get up. Du Zhengyi's expression was relaxed, but it also revealed confusion. "Doesn't it hurt?"

"What?" Luo Qi asked in confusion, then saw the dark stains on his clothes, which seemed to be his own blood; his abdomen had been slashed by the Queen.

"The wound isn't light, you're quite tough," Du Zhengyi commented idly.

"Oh, that." Luo Qi finally remembered belatedly, "I just turned off the sensation of pain in my stomach."

Du Zhengyi nodded with understanding, "Not bad, kid, you're becoming more like me."

"I'm turning all my senses back on right now, my arms and legs are numb." Luo Qi fumbled around in the Consciousness World for a long time, finally allowing his brain to normally receive all nerve signals. The moment all his sensations returned, he let out a glorious scream and nearly fainted.

"Well, that's not like me," Du Zhengyi said without a shred of sympathy, while holding back a laugh.

"Damn it." Luo Qi hissed in pain, "Boss, save me."

"Wait a moment. Majiang will be here soon." Du Zhengyi touched his forehead, wiped the blood from his eyes, and carefully examined the wound on his eyelid. "Is your vision okay?"

"Seems like it is," Luo Qi said, "I'm so scared and dizzy right now, I don't know if my vision is okay."

"You just took on a group of Seal Beasts alone, and you still think you're a coward?"

"Isn't that just fighting for my life because I'm afraid of dying? Are they all dead?" Luo Qi knew the mental world had already been extinguished, but he still had lingering fears and couldn't help but ask.

"They suddenly lost consciousness; their bodies lived for a while, but they breathed their last before long. It looks like failure caused by brain death," Du Zhengyi said.

Luo Qi breathed a sigh of relief, "It was me who shut them down, but I don't know..." He gasped a few more times in pain before saying, "I didn't do the crucial step. I don't know how I broke free from the Queen's mental control."

"Oh, you didn't break free," Du Zhengyi suddenly laughed, as if he had just witnessed a good show that Luo Qi, who lacked the luck to see it, had missed.

"I'm in so much pain I'm dying," Luo Qi shouted irritably, "Tell me!"

"Fine." Du Zhengyi withdrew his hand and wiped the blood off it onto Luo Qi's clothes. "I don't know how you fought the Queen in the mental world, but to me, it looked like it lasted just a little longer than an instant. The Queen's claws stopped at your eyes and didn't move. During this skill cooldown, your little cat seized the opportunity and spat on her face. The Queen's armor isn't invincible; at the very least, it can't withstand cat saliva that's more corrosive than strong acid. Her eyes were melted. I saw her howl and jump away; the next instant, they were all wiped out in silence, and you woke up."

"Ah." Luo Qi made a single sound, deeply realizing how important it is to have a few clear-headed teammates in the external world who can take the initiative to make decisions. No wonder that damn Du Zhengyi kept emphasizing that a Mind Mage cannot act alone.

"So, you were saved by a cat," Du Zhengyi said, reaching out to wipe the blood from the corner of his eye again, "It's alright now, hold on a little longer, Majiang is almost here."
