Chapter 310: The Missing Restroom
Luo Qi woke from a deep sleep, his mood quite good thanks to the sufficient rest. Highland sunlight streamed through the curtains that hadn't been pulled tight, and the large, warm, rich colors in the room comforted Luo Qi like chocolate. The anxieties of the night always receded when the sun rose; what felt like a dead end in the dark of night felt like a trivial despair when the day broke.
He leaped up and walked toward the window. Pei Shu might have been right about one thing: the sun would always rise as usual.
At first glance, he discovered that the vegetation outside the window was extremely lush, which didn't seem to fit the ecological conditions here, though that was nothing strange in the territory of Mages. Luo Qi gazed at the garden outside the window, where a row of houses had a corner vaguely visible amidst the greenery.
In the middle of this garden grew several towering ancient trees, which vaguely set an unusual tone for the place. Even though the footprint of this garden couldn't be particularly large, the deep, secluded atmosphere created by those trees made one suspect that it connected to deep mountains and dense forests, where deer might still be wandering in the depths of the woods.
There was a small lake among the trees, half of its surface hidden behind the shrubs. Wisps of mist drifted intermittently over the water, and the upright, sheet-like smoke looked somewhat eerie. It was as if a group of forest spirits in gray skirts were wandering and strolling on the water, whiling away the mountain years.
Luo Qi stared at that lake from the window for a while, feeling a sense of ethereal tranquility that didn't make him feel creeped out. Behind the trees was a vague row of houses, and he thought he saw a figure flicker past a window. He suspected that was the end of this garden, a small park that wasn't very large.
Luo Qi turned back to examine the room where he had spent the night; the color scheme here was rich, neat, and tidy. Like the small living room from yesterday, the floor was covered with thick carpets, and several cushions were scattered on the floor in front of the bed. To improve space utilization in a narrow room, there weren't many choices; most had to utilize the floor like this, sitting directly on it. If someone living here wanted to meet guests while maintaining privacy, they could probably only use this small space in front of the bed. Fortunately, although the space wasn't large, it was quite comfortable, and all the materials used were exquisite. Luo Qi guessed this might be some kind of lifestyle concept or philosophy of the Highland Mages, though Luo Qi couldn't quite summarize what this philosophy or concept actually was. In short, in Luo Qi's words, it was just that kind of vibe.
Beside the bed was a small round table, on which a glass of water and a plate filled with Energy Beans had already been placed. Luo Qi made a bitter grimace at the plate of beans, not having the slightest desire to eat.
It was not yet seven-thirty, and while Luo Qi was someone who could easily get enough sleep, he knew by calculating the time that Du Zhengyi probably wouldn't be awake. He planned to go for a walk in the garden outside the window and, incidentally, see who lived in the house across from the garden.
He first fumbled around the tapestry, wanting to find the secret door he had caught a glimpse of yesterday. He needed to take care of a physiological necessity before he wet his pants; the matter hadn't been very urgent at first, but after he had felt around all the wall tapestries on the four walls of the room, he was a bit dumbfounded. He couldn't understand how the Highland Mages could have such a wicked design; what kind of person would hide a toilet?
Luo Qi tried hard to recall where the door to that bathroom had appeared yesterday and how it had appeared. The result of his pondering made him a bit nervous; that door leading to the bathroom hadn't been there when they first looked at the room, and it had already appeared later in the day when Du Zhengyi walked into the room.
When Luo Qi thought of this, his heart sank—no way, could it be that Du Zhengyi had wanted to use the bathroom at that time, so he had just made the bathroom appear when he entered the room, the way one would turn on a light upon entering a room? The more Luo Qi thought about it, the more he felt it was possible. It wasn't that he hadn't seen Du Zhengyi use Magic; it was as smooth and natural as breathing. You wouldn't notice how a person breathes, so you wouldn't notice Du Zhengyi using Magic either.
Luo Qi hugged his arms in annoyance and got angry at the wall where the toilet door had disappeared. Oh, life; suddenly the Lotus Burners, the Qionglin, Pei Shu, and his own miserable experiences all seemed unimportant—he was about to pee on the host's carpet like a little dog! The importance of finding a place to pee overwhelmed everything else. Look, what an important life realization this was; Luo Qi made up his mind to write this sentence in his personal reflections, and he would even add an illustration.
Before he burst, he went out and wandered around Du Zhengyi's door twice; the door was tightly shut. He used his mental voice to call for his boss to save him, but unfortunately, the signal here might not be very good. He steeled himself and went to wander around the door of the Mahjong player; judging by the complete silence from inside the room, there was an eighty percent chance the Mahjong player wasn't awake either. There was no movement from Guan Xinyue's room, and he didn't have the face to ask the little girl to borrow a bathroom. Although he was one hundred percent sure the clean-loving girl must have used the bathroom last night, she must have asked the Mahjong player how to use the bathroom.
Luo Qi frantically walked in the other direction along the corridor, not seeing any open doors along the way. At the end of the corridor, he followed the turn and turned right, walking into another corridor of about the same length. He secretly marveled at how many rooms this building had, and the end of the corridor converged under a doorway the size of a double door.
He passed through this solid wood-encased door frame and walked into a fairly spacious hall; it was decorated with quite a bit of taste and had many things worth admiring in detail. But Luo Qi was being urged by his bladder and had no mood to look closely. The Highland Mage from yesterday said he would be in the hall, and that hall must be this place. Because compared to the narrow dimensions of each room here, this place was truly too large; if the word "hall" could replace a certain room and make everyone understand, it must be referring to this place.
Luo Qi hurriedly searched everywhere for the Highland Mage's figure, but after circling around, he didn't find him; he might have gone to be busy with something. He might also be hogging the toilet, Luo Qi grumbled unhappily. According to normal logic, there must be a public restroom near the hall where everyone gathered for activities. Luo Qi searched the surroundings with confidence and discovered that although this hall was divided into several areas by decorations, it was generally a large open space, and it was a perfectly symmetrical square.
On the four walls of this square hall, Luo Qi found four identical doors. To be precise, four identical door openings.
