Chapter 315: Investigation
Luo Qi walked out of the room and saw at a glance that Du Zhengyi was in the middle of the corridor, leaning against the wall smoking. As soon as Luo Qi poked his head out, Du Zhengyi waved at him.
Luo Qi walked over, trembling with fear, "Brother, I..."
"I told you to come out for a walk, I have something to ask you," Du Zhengyi said first.
"Oh, damn," Luo Qi said, gasping for air, "So you were the one calling me out? Can we not do this? Can you give me a better signal in the future?"
Du Zhengyi laughed, the cigarette dangling from his mouth, and grabbed the back of Luo Qi's collar with his hand, pulling him toward the direction of the central hall. "I saw you came out so quickly, I thought your 'aptitude' for enlightenment was quite good."
"I came out to comfort the little princess, okay?" Luo Qi rolled his eyes and said, "Where are you going?"
"Take me for a tour first. Didn't you explore this place early this morning?" Du Zhengyi smiled.
"Alright then, but I only toured the inside of this building this morning," Luo Qi said.
"Take me to see the corridor where you said you saw a figure."
"Fine," Luo Qi said readily. "I bet you'll want to see it."
Luo Qi led him through the corridor, made a right-angle turn, and turned into the second corridor, "I have a strange intuition."
"What intuition?"
"I feel like the Highland Mage won't be particularly pleased to see you smoking here," Luo Qi said.
Du Zhengyi chuckled and continued smoking his cigarette.
When passing through the hall, Luo Qi greeted the Highland Mage from afar, "Hey! Kawaii!"
The Highland Mage frowned at Du Zhengyi and restrainedly said nothing.
"Have you ever thought about quitting smoking?" Luo Qi asked Du Zhengyi.
"Big man, don't nag," Du Zhengyi said.
"Then can I smoke?"
"You're still a minor." Du Zhengyi extended an arm to drape over Luo Qi's shoulder and pushed him into the corridor on the right.
The corridor was quiet, but it was different from absolute silence; even though there was actually no one in this entire building, the Highland Mage still had a way to create a serene and gentle feeling here.
As if guessing Luo Qi's thoughts, Du Zhengyi explained, "They place great importance on creating a comfortable environment. There are tiny sounds here that are most suitable for the ears, and the most comfortable lighting." He paused and added, "A place that makes the mind serene is conducive to Ascension."
Luo Qi couldn't help but laugh, then felt he shouldn't mock them; he should keep an open mind. Existence has its own rationality, and even if one cannot achieve Ascension, the life of a Highland Mage is indeed much more comfortable than that of worldly people like them.
Unknowingly, they reached the last section of the corridor, and Du Zhengyi suddenly reached out to signal Luo Qi not to move.
The serene atmosphere was abruptly interrupted, and Luo Qi subconsciously became nervous.
Du Zhengyi turned his head and said to Luo Qi, "There is no danger; I just really sensed something. Your energy has increased now; if you keep moving forward, it will affect my measurement of the residual energy. Also, don't be anxious, or you will interfere with my measurement too."
Luo Qi nodded, stood still, tried his best to balance his emotions, and simultaneously reinforced the barriers of his Yajian.
He watched Du Zhengyi, cigarette in his mouth, slowly walking forward, and couldn't help but feel anxious again. To distract himself, he started chatting, "Could the Highland Mage have already come to check? If they have also measured the traces, would that cause evidence contamination?"
"I'm not sure," Du Zhengyi said. "The Highland Mage's style is slightly different from ours; they have very limited concern for the mundane world. Not to mention there is only one Highland Mage here; he might only report it after the Elder Mage returns."
"Oh," Luo Qi said, not without worry, "When they return in two days, I'll have to learn from the monks; they will definitely make me practice Meditation."
"For a Mind Mage, Meditation is beneficial." Contrary to his expectations, Du Zhengyi didn't speak up for him. Du Zhengyi was a very realistic person, and he was very clear about that point.
While he was still lost in his thoughts, Du Zhengyi stopped in front of a door. He reached out, gently grabbed the doorknob, and pulled the door open. The natural light from outside the window fell into the corridor at the doorway.
Du Zhengyi stood at the doorway, smoking while pondering something; after a moment, he said, "Interesting."
"What did you sense? Can I come over and take a look?"
"You wouldn't see anything even if you came over. There's no one here now," Du Zhengyi said.
"Then did you detect any Magic traces?" Luo Qi couldn't help but ask.
Du Zhengyi didn't speak, just stood there facing the indoor sunlight, lost in thought.
"Actually, you just think it's particularly comfortable to stand there in the sunlight and smoke, right?" Luo Qi asked.
Du Zhengyi ignored him until the cigarette was almost finished, his expression appearing somewhat confused.
"Hey, hey, hey, Boss! How many cigarettes have you smoked?" Luo Qi could only observe Du Zhengyi out of boredom, and the more he observed, the more he felt he was giving up on himself.
"Shut up," Du Zhengyi said. He raised his head as if carefully identifying something.
Luo Qi pursed his lips and stopped making noise. A moment later, Du Zhengyi suddenly took a drag of his cigarette and exhaled it into the air. He observed the movement of the smoke suspiciously, then shook his head after a moment.
"So is there something or not?" Luo Qi asked, very puzzled. He had seen Du Zhengyi do this kind of thing more than once; generally speaking, if there was something, there was, and if not, there wasn't. Du Zhengyi would get an answer very decisively.
"I can't say for sure," Du Zhengyi said. He turned around slowly and stared fixedly in one direction.
Luo Qi suddenly felt his spine tingle, and he looked at the empty corridor, horrified. Du Zhengyi turned again, as if a Ghost was brushing past him.
Luo Qi opened his barrier once, and in the field of vision of his Yajian, there were only him and Du Zhengyi.
"I didn't sense anything," he blurted out.
Du Zhengyi nodded knowingly and suddenly stretched out both hands. Luo Qi shouted, "No!"
Du Zhengyi was startled and looked back at him, "I just wanted to make a passive imaging detection array."
"Why?" Luo Qi asked angrily.
Du Zhengyi looked at him, puzzled.
"There's nothing here!"
"I know. But I have a strange feeling..." Du Zhengyi explained, "I feel like there is something here."
"What's the probability that there is?" Luo Qi asked firmly, making it impossible for Du Zhengyi to ignore him.
"Zero point..." Du Zhengyi said. Luo Qi glared at him, and he finally compromised, "Zero point..."
"That's enough!" Luo Qi said, stepping forward to grab Du Zhengyi's arm and pulling him away from there. "You can't use your power just because of some abnormal feeling. Leave this mess to Kawaii! Oh, by the way! This isn't even the jurisdiction of the Qionglin; it's not your sector, is it?"
