Chapter 382: Sandbox Battle (2)

~4 min read 668 words

The Blizzard raged, the wind and snow lashing against her face as she trudged through the thick snow, her feet feeling as if they were filled with lead. She had almost forgotten the sensation of being inside a body; now that she had returned to the flesh, her soul completely bound by it, she felt incredibly clumsy. Furthermore, she began to feel cold—very cold—to the point where her body was nearly frozen stiff. Having been imprisoned in a container in the form of consciousness for over ten thousand years, she had forgotten the true feeling of cold, forgotten how it could pierce her lungs and stiffen her limbs. Now, with the wind and snow swirling in a blur, she could not see how far she had run. She had considered using Telepathy to test for Du Zhengyi's location, but Du Zhengyi had now fully entered a combat state; as a Battle Mage—no, a War Machine—he could make himself as cold as a stone in the wind and snow, rendering him completely invisible to any life-detection Magic.

She recalled when Battle Mages first appeared, back before the Great Extinction, when they began to consciously train warriors as if clutching at the last straw. They relied on Entanglement to control the warriors' actions even from thousands of miles away, and most importantly, to control their loyalty. In this current era, she suspected that the Spell maintaining the Entanglement had gradually begun to lose its power.

But regardless, a warrior is a warrior; they can spontaneously enter the role of an Iron-blooded Warrior, outputting maximum attacks while remaining blind to the damage they themselves sustain. She allowed her Yajian to run in parallel: one Yajian continued to search her own memories for the Underlying Magic Spell of the Sandbox to compare it with the current one. The other Yajian considered whether Luo Qi had already found the original warrior Entanglement and successfully established an Entanglement with Du Zhengyi, binding him to swear loyalty unto death. Her second Yajian searched through Luo Qi's memories; Luo Qi liked to hide things, and some of his little secrets had escaped her first search of his memories.

Her search of Luo Qi's memories yielded nothing, while the process of comparing the Underlying Magic Spell of the Sandbox was still ongoing; her memories were too complex, and in order to fit into Luo Qi's brain, she had been forced to forget quite a lot. The blizzard before her eyes evolved into a major disaster within minutes, the temperature dropping by at least ten degrees in two minutes, and her fingers were numb with cold.

She assessed the danger of this Sandbox; the Magic Du Zhengyi excelled at must be well-suited for use here. Considering this environment, it should be adapted for use in extreme conditions, and perhaps the lower the visibility, the more advantageous it was for him. A Sandbox restricts rules but also amplifies them; in such a subspace, Magic Energy might be extremely abundant, amplifying the Magic effects of every Mage. But this effect was fair to everyone; that is to say, it would amplify the Magic Du Zhengyi cast, but it would also amplify her Magic, though Du Zhengyi had more of a head start than she did, as it was he who had chosen the Sandbox after all. Yet this head start was very limited, so Du Zhengyi must be intending to ambush her.

She gazed into the distance, still unable to see through the heavy wind and snow. Du Zhengyi should have immediately launched a lethal ambush against her; the fact that he had yet to act was strange. In a fight against a Progenitor Mage, the more time she was given, the more likely she was to figure everything out, and by then, no one would be able to contend with the creator of the rules.

Now, the only reason she could think of was that Du Zhengyi was wary of Luo Qi's body, and thus was hesitant and cautious.
