Chapter 433: Waves Rising Without Wind (5)
As the night color gradually dispersed across the window, Luo Qi huddled on that small bed, his gaze blurred as he looked at the points of light in the night sky outside that seemed to be stars. His mind had been in turmoil, contradictorily able to be fully conscious of what had happened, yet completely unable to accept or believe what had happened. They, many people, had all intentionally or unintentionally hinted at the crisis before him, and had also explicitly stated the powerful strength he occasionally possessed. But as he lay alone on the roof of the world, looking at the distant, obscure stars, he realized that he was actually this insignificant.
I do not know how many youths have arrogantly believed that they were going to oppose the whole world, but the world only gave them an indifferent back; the declarations of war they roared were merely hopes to let the world see them. Luo Qi used to be one of them, and now he might have had some strength, so the world stretched out a claw and pressed him to the ground in one go. The grand war he had thought he would have to resist never happened at all; the world had no intention of entering the arena to fight a nobody like him. They were not in the same weight class at all, whether in terms of Magic power or wisdom. The world used a little technique quite casually to severely wound him, and they took away the most important part of him, and it was justified, procedurally correct, and not even a head-on conflict could be spoken of.
He had to follow the rules, he had to be resigned and hardworking. Either he had a good cry, or he had a big scene.
Luo Qi finally entered dreamland; he heard his cat meowing, perhaps he had forgotten to feed it.
His dream was very long, and also very chaotic. Countless life stories that did not belong to him rotated in his dream like a revolving lantern; most of them he did not even have time to see clearly. Every life could not be considered good, but reading other people's lives does not make a person mature; otherwise, people who watch two more movies should be better able to control themselves from making mistakes. His dreamscape gradually turned into his own story, his life fracturing into countless time slices. Du Zhengyi's time slices were so scarce, and he had generously distributed them to the Qionglin, to countless people he did not know. Luo Qi stared in terror at the few remaining time slices of Du Zhengyi, feeling himself starving, and panic painted his dreamscape into a coast ravaged by a hurricane.
Luo Qi was retreating in his dream; sometimes he saw Du Zhengyi's stomach cut open, his skin splitting apart, the hideous wound looking as if it were on his own body. He screamed and rushed up to press Du Zhengyi's wound, wanting to block the blood surging out of his body. Du Zhengyi's countdown was becoming more intense; it was likely only a few dozen minutes away from bleeding dry. Luo Qi abandoned everything, pleading, begging, saying countless soft words, promising endless promises.
Just as Luo Qi woke up, his pleading still lingered in his mouth; he heard himself say that he was willing to do anything, he was willing to learn, he was willing to work for the Qionglin, he was willing to donate all his strength to the Qionglin. He muttered and babbled, his chest stepped on by a claw; he opened his eyes to look at the thousands of rays of sunlight coming through the window, and a cat's butt.
His cat was walking arrogantly on his body, and even swept its tail across his face; the weight pressing on his chest made him wake up.
Luo Qi climbed off the bed, walked into the bathroom with a dark face, and haphazardly completed the necessary items for the start of his day. He ate with the cat; his cat, Luo Ruiqi, automatically climbed into his pocket to sleep after eating, as if it had been very sleep-deprived yesterday.
Luo Qi could not argue with the cat; he walked out of the bedroom in a daze, slowly walking along the corridor toward the hall. Regarding what to do next, he had a few choices. He could go find a Highland Mage to ask if he could resume classes, he could also follow the book list to find someone to ask for books, and he could also take his phone and leave the Highland Mage's territory, trying to dial Du Zhengyi's phone number. He urgently wanted to talk to Du Zhengyi, but precisely because of this, Luo Qi vaguely knew that they would definitely not let him have his way.
He moved slowly through the building wrapped in red felt, always suspecting that there were eyes behind him monitoring him; the pervasive, thick red color today made him feel like a toad swallowed into a python's stomach.
Luo Qi walked into the hall and shuttled between the red curtains for a while; the low-frequency sound echoing here today could not soothe his heart either. For a short moment, Luo Qi felt as if he were a cat with the fur on its back standing on end; he almost gathered his strength to maliciously strike back, impacting the entire hall in a completely opposite way.
But Luo Qi held himself back, ignoring everyone in the hall; he changed his mind and did not go to learn from the Highland Mage. He steadily circled the hall and found the entrance leading downward.
After a few days of construction, the underground hall was already almost exactly the same as the one in the Qionglin. Except there were no huge floor-to-ceiling windows, and no Yinsong Senlin with drifting snow crystals. Those house-elves of the Qionglin did not care about the stomach-like walls at all, did not care about the lack of windows, and did not care about the interrogation taking place upstairs regarding a Luo Qi who might destroy the world; they were busy with their own Magic experiments as usual.
Luo Qi wandered around the underground hall and finally discovered traces of Zhou Quan; he was leaning against a newly added low wall, chatting with a girl. Luo Qi only took one look and knew he was making small talk; he wanted to hit on that girl. He was not listening to what the girl was saying at all, but the girl was also not paying attention to what he was saying; she was also satisfied that her charm had attracted a man.
"Hey, Zhou Quan." Luo Qi said behind him.
Zhou Quan was startled and immediately moved away from the low wall; he breathed a sigh of relief when he turned around and saw Luo Qi. "How can you walk behind me without a sound?"
"That might be because you've been focused on mating for a hundred years, so you didn't notice me." Luo Qi said dryly, using a voice only Zhou Quan could hear.
"Mate... mate what mate, why is your mouth so dark? Am I a toad? Only toads mate." Zhou Quan said, looking around behind Luo Qi, then reached out to grab Luo Qi's arm and pulled him into a quiet corner. Calling it a corner, it was actually a triangular area located between three experimental fields. "I heard the investigation into you is over? You passed?"
Luo Qi watched him quietly for a while, and only after a long time did he say, "So you don't know any more news either."
Zhou Quan fiddled with the hair on top of his head a few times, as if suppressing his own interest, and said indifferently, "That depends on what news you want to know. Even if I don't know at this moment, I can adjust my strategic direction according to client needs."
Luo Qi thought for a while before saying, "Do you know that Du Zhengyi has left?"
Just as Zhou Quan was about to speak, Luo Qi suddenly turned his head to scan behind him.
"What's wrong?" Zhou Quan changed his question.
Luo Qi watched for a while longer; he felt a subtle but highly targeted hostility, carrying a pressure that made his scalp tingle slightly. But he did not see anything; he lacked Du Zhengyi's experience of recognizing a bastard from a crowd at a glance. He turned his head back and shook it, signaling to Zhou Quan not to care. "Do you know they sent him away urgently?"
"I know about that." Zhou Quan said; he glanced at Luo Qi and said slowly, "I heard it has to do with the Lotus Burner; they summoned Du Zhengyi to the Qionglin, probably to do analysis work. The paperwork went through my hands; if you want to know, I have to say the process was very routine."
A wave of disappointment slid across Luo Qi's heart, but his attention was drawn away, and he turned his head again with suspicion.
