Chapter 451: The Missing Mage
Luo Qi was calculating many things in his mind, while his ears listened to Liu Ziyi chattering incessantly about test data, inferences, and conjectures, all mixed with professional jargon he could not understand. His footsteps followed Liu Ziyi automatically, following her as she walked toward a new Teleportation Point, then returned to the previous floor.
"If one day the Mages from the History Department are free, we should ask them to check every groove on the walls and restore a three-dimensional model to scale; then we could guess what these halls looked like originally." Liu Ziyi had finally started talking about the halls; everything she had said before seemed to be about abnormal energy bodies. Now, Luo Qi could conclude that for a Mage to be capable of doing her kind of work, besides needing a high IQ, they also had to possess the attribute of being incredibly stubborn.
At this moment, they had just emerged from teleportation again, and directly above their heads was the first basement level, where the Qionglin Laboratory, which had moved in recently, was stationed. Luo Qi reached out and grabbed Liu Ziyi's wrist; the girl immediately understood and stopped, and she fell silent at the right time.
Actually, Luo Qi should have noticed something was wrong earlier, but Liu Ziyi had been talking the whole time, talking him into a drowsy state, and he had been pondering his own affairs, so his brain's alert capability had dropped to its lowest point. It wasn't until his sixth sense alarm rang again and again that he finally sensed something was wrong.
"It's too quiet." He subconsciously said something that Liu Ziyi was unlikely to understand.
Liu Ziyi was not a lively type of girl; she didn't ask back, merely raising her eyebrows.
"My mind, it's too quiet," Luo Qi said.
Judging by Liu Ziyi's expression, she might be restrainedly and silently asking if he had gone crazy?
"I'm not schizophrenic, that's not what I mean, I don't chat with myself," Luo Qi said, subconsciously looking up, as if wanting to pierce through the thick metal to see the soles of the feet of the people on the floor above. However, there was no one above his head; he knew clearly and distinctly that the hall above was just as empty as the hall beneath his feet. He couldn't help but take a deep breath, "I can't hear a single hum of Yajian. It's been a while; it's too quiet, there isn't a single living thing capable of thought."
"Living... thing?" Liu Ziyi repeated Luo Qi's choice of words with effort; she pondered for a moment and followed his train of thought without any obstacles. "Do you mean they might have all gone somewhere to party, without taking us?"
"I don't necessarily want to go party with them," Luo Qi said in a low voice. His spirit was taut; he knew something must have happened, and Liu Ziyi knew it too. What she said was meant to be a joke, but her face was ashen. While telling the joke, her hand reached into her pocket and pulled out a Magic Crystal. When they were heading up earlier, she had already turned off the detection grid map, and now she hurriedly restarted the crystal.
The three-dimensional model that Luo Qi had become familiar with appeared in the air. Luo Qi knew the result at a single glance; those once-dense, dim little light spots had disappeared. All he could see were his own dim self, the relatively brighter Liu Ziyi, and that big light bulb downstairs.
Luo Qi did not waste time expressing his shock, asking directly, "Can you extend the monitoring range to parts outside the building?"
"Not from here," Liu Ziyi said. The confused expression on her face had completely vanished, and Luo Qi could see the female Mage's eyes reflecting a sharp light under the firelight. "It's possible upstairs, but I need more Magic tools. However, rushing up there now might mean running into something."
"At least we won't run into any living people," Luo Qi said, seeing Liu Ziyi tremble out of the corner of his eye. "If we don't go up and take a look, we can only stay here, and there is nothing here." Liu Ziyi only pondered for a second before nodding.
