Chapter 491: The Frankenstein Rebellion (2)
"They haven't finished the fight yet." Luo Qi blinked slowly, a wave of exhaustion washing over him, his eyelids beginning to stick together. He thought sluggishly that he might have adjusted his adrenaline too many times; the tissue self-repair he had just completed might have pushed his body to its limit, and now he lacked the raw materials to keep himself awake. He rubbed his eyes hard. "Let's go take a look, too."
"Look at what?" Du Zhengyi asked.
He turned his head in confusion, only to be grabbed by the collar and yanked forward by Du Zhengyi. He stumbled a step, thinking he would slam into Du Zhengyi, but instead, he stepped into yet another space. His feet landed on solid ground; a single step had taken him into a Highland Mage's bedroom.
He grumbled incoherently, but honestly, this Teleportation hadn't made him particularly dizzy—perhaps because the distance traveled wasn't far, or perhaps because his energy was slowly drying up and he simply didn't have the strength to retch.
He forced his eyelids open, looking at the room decorated with dark red tapestries, the familiar single bed, the few simple pieces of Highland-style furniture, and the familiar, miniature room dimensions. "Stingy Highland Mage," he muttered, looking at Du Zhengyi. "Someone told me there are Sensing Crystals here, and someone might be monitoring."
Before he could finish his sentence, a blinding light flashed in the room, like an impatient Lightning Technique. Luo Qi's reaction was never fast; he turned his head slowly, lagging behind. He couldn't say what he had seen, but a scent of instantaneous burning permeated the air. "You... what did you zap?"
"A Sensing Crystal," Du Zhengyi said. "Go lie on the bed; Majiang will be here soon."
"Crystals can be burned away too?" Luo Qi asked, puzzled. His footsteps were unsteady; he could feel his thoughts slowing down, as if his brain had entered the final five percent of its battery life and was about to force a standby mode.
"As long as you know the method, there is nothing that cannot be burned," Du Zhengyi said perfunctorily. "Do you really want to hear a theoretical explanation?"
"No, no," Luo Qi said hurriedly. "Spare me, I don't want to attend a lecture."
His body swayed, and he turned with difficulty toward the bed. The room was so small that it didn't take five steps to reach the bedside. "We really should go see; maybe there's some excitement. Who knows what else will happen? I really want to watch them destroy the monster they stitched together with my own eyes; it's too ironic..."
Someone kicked him in the back; he couldn't be sure. He fell face-first onto the bed. By the time he woke up, Du Zhengyi would certainly not admit to kicking him, unless there was a footprint on the back of his clothes. That was just how Du Zhengyi was: serious, upright, and yet incredibly cunning.
He silently complained to himself, comfortably pressing his face against the slightly rough bedsheets, and said vaguely, "How do you know Majiang will be back soon... oh, I remember, medical-grade Entanglement."
Entanglement. He remembered; he had an Entanglement with Clownfish. He couldn't feel how the Entanglement actually worked, nor did he know what benefits it could bring him. He should find a time to think about this problem properly; there were huge risks involved, but it must also bring him some benefits. He had heard that Entanglement was always a two-way binding, like two energy points constraining each other across a vast distance. Doing this carried great risks; he had only heard of two people willing to form an alliance doing this, and no one would decide to do it unilaterally. Unless... unless someone could gain huge benefits?
It seemed the only reason Clownfish would do this was for that—to gain huge benefits from him. But what use was he? He was just Luo Qi. When Clownfish had the chance to bind him with Entanglement, he was just a nobody, a Mage Apprentice, even more ignorant than he was today. Why would a Mind Archmage with real ability like Clownfish form an Entanglement with a Mage Apprentice like him? Even though he might be a promising Mage in some people's eyes, how could Clownfish look up to him? At best, he might reach Clownfish's level.
Wait, a thought flashed through his mind. "Promising"? Not to brag, but he was indeed a "promising" Mage. As a precious and rare Mind Mage, the Qionglin wanted to use him very much. In the days to come, he might constantly level up and enter high-level maps like a game character. But Clownfish didn't want to use his future power or status; he could fully utilize the "influence" of the Lotus Burners in the Qionglin. He must want something else...
It seemed Clownfish really didn't want to kill Du Zhengyi.
Clownfish didn't come here because of his interest in Du Zhengyi.
Clownfish was even less interested in him.
But, Clownfish came to the Highland Mage's station with them. Not coming early, not coming late...
Luo Qi opened his eyes wide. Could it be because Clownfish simply couldn't break through the Highland Mage's Barrier? He appeared in the Highland Mage's territory now because Luo Qi had come here. He could finally walk into the Highland Mage's Barrier because Luo Qi could walk in. The Barrier was a two-way, fair constraint, so no one would use it casually; in fact, the vast majority of Mages wouldn't use Entanglement at all. Clownfish cautiously chose Luo Qi—someone whose Magic characteristics matched his own, whose ability was weaker than his, and who was younger than him—making the risks completely controllable. And Luo Qi was destined to obtain one authorization after another in the future; these authorizations might not count for much in the eyes of the Qionglin, but for an outsider like Clownfish, they were of great significance.
Too treacherous. He had been used again! How many people had already used him or intended to?
A hand covered Luo Qi's eyes. He sniffed and knew it was Du Zhengyi.
"Don't think about anything, don't use your brain anymore," Du Zhengyi said in a low voice. "Relax."
He obediently relaxed his body, his consciousness turning toward the back of his mind almost immediately, gradually falling into a deep sleep. He was truly too tired. As he was about to fall asleep, he heard the sound of the door opening, and his cat purred. Someone seemed to have removed his uncomfortable clothes, followed by the feeling of Sound Waves or light waves brushing against his skin; he couldn't distinguish exactly what this technology was, but it didn't require water, and the dirt and bloodstains on his body were all cleaned away. That feeling... it was just like how humans handle antiques, hey!
Luo Qi couldn't think any further; he finally fell into a deep sleep. The Slime in his Consciousness World curled into a ball and rolled toward a dam of consciousness, listening to the familiar waves on the other side of the dam, as if being lulled to sleep.
