Chapter 500: Luo Qi's Hearing

~8 min read 1,530 words

After Luo Qi woke up for the second time, he finally saw his other friends; Majiang brought Guan Xinyue to see him. Majiang performed a physical examination on him and concluded that he had no major problems, but strongly advised him to lie in bed for a week, preferably remaining in a sleeping state for most of the time. Furthermore, since the Highland Mage's Nutrition Bean had the most balanced composition and was the most reasonable medical diet, Majiang firmly told Du Zhengyi that he must keep an eye on Luo Qi to prevent other visitors from being unable to resist the temptation to feed him.

However, on the other hand, Guan Xinyue still refused to speak to him.

She just stood at the doorway, quiet and still, and once she glanced at Luo Qi and confirmed he hadn't actually kicked the bucket, she even turned her gaze away.

Luo Qi knew what she wanted: news of her sister. He had anticipated this, just not that she would actually stay angry for so long. Majiang's attitude toward him was even worse, which surely had to do with Guan Xinyue being angry. Du Zhengyi seemed not to notice anything wrong with the atmosphere at all, talking to whoever he wanted, because he never paid any attention to the atmosphere to begin with.

Luo Qi couldn't stand the heavy atmosphere between friends, so after holding back for a while, he tried to strike up a conversation with Guan Xinyue, "Is Liu Ziyi not hanging out with you?"

Guan Xinyue kept a sullen face, as if he were speaking to thin air.

It was Majiang who suddenly remembered, turning his head to say to Du Zhengyi, "Right, the Investigation Committee summoned Liu Ziyi to attend the Hearing. Do you know what kind of evidence she is going to provide?"

"It should be the report she is submitting; she extracted the test environment for Luo Qi. Also, although the Magic covering the Sandbox will naturally generate a report, the Investigation Committee might not be able to understand it without someone explaining it. Liu Ziyi is an expert in this area, and they will consult her on professional matters," Du Zhengyi said.

"Is that so," Majiang said, "Liu Ziyi has looked a bit strange these past few days."

"Strange how?" Du Zhengyi asked.

"I can't put my finger on it, she just doesn't seem as happy as she used to be," Majiang said.

Du Zhengyi asked in surprise, "Isn't she always in a half-asleep state? How can there be a distinction between happy and unhappy?"

Majiang made a helpless gesture, "Fine, I can't expect too much from you. It's already very thoughtful of you to remember that she is also a student of our teacher."

"She isn't very happy," Guan Xinyue suddenly said from the side, "She has nightmares at night. If you have time, you'd better show some concern for her, otherwise I'm going to talk to other Great Mages."

Du Zhengyi and Majiang looked at each other simultaneously; Majiang coughed and asked awkwardly, "Is it possible that Luo Qi... accidentally... radiated..."

"It wasn't me!" Luo Qi shouted in annoyance.

"Majiang, you can make an appointment to diagnose her," Du Zhengyi said thoughtfully, "Those few days must have been agonizing for her; she might just be suffering from shock."

Luo Qi thought about it himself and said hesitantly, "I don't think she's very scared. Maybe a little, but her spirit is very strong. She looks like a Lolita-style girl, a bit nonsensical, but she isn't actually like that."

"What is a Lolita-style girl?"

"Lolita-style girls aren't nonsensical."

Two voices spoke to him at once; the one asking was Majiang, and the one furiously refuting him was Guan Xinyue.

Luo Qi thought for a moment, "Dressing up like a doll, isn't that just being nonsensical?"

"People can wear whatever they want!" Guan Xinyue said, "You Mages are all obsessed with Hanfu, like a bunch of Taoist priests in a cultivation drama; what right do you have to attack Lolita-style girls?"

"Aren't you not talking to me?" Luo Qi licked his lips, lying there looking at Guan Xinyue.

Guan Xinyue glared at him fiercely.

Majiang couldn't hold back anymore, "What is wrong with you two? Luo Qi, it must be your fault; Guan Xinyue has lost weight these past few days, all because you've been bullying her."

"I've lost weight too!" Luo Qi said shamelessly, rolling his eyes.

"You're a man, why can't you let the little girl have her way?" Majiang was always driven half-mad whenever he tried to reason with Luo Qi.

"Right, right, I'm a man, so Xinyue, I apologize to you—because I'm a man, I should yield to women, I forgot for a moment," Luo Qi said, blinking.

Guan Xinyue grabbed Du Zhengyi's water cup from the small table nearby and splashed most of the water onto Luo Qi's face. "You are wrong, because it is your fault! I never need anyone to yield to me! Because I am not wrong! And it has nothing to do with being a man or a woman!"

Luo Qi wiped his face and looked at Majiang with some sarcasm. Majiang realized what happened, his expression complex, and he said to the girl, "Hey, Xinyue, that's not what I meant."

"I don't need you to follow me either! Is having external genitalia something to be proud of?" Guan Xinyue yelled at Majiang, turned around, pushed the door open, and ran out.

Majiang froze there; the three men took a moment to recover, and it was Du Zhengyi who spoke first, "You really know how to talk, Doctor."

"Why don't you talk to Luo Qi?"

"It's just that today it isn't Luo Qi's fault; that cup of water should have been splashed on your face," Du Zhengyi said unsparingly, "Honestly, for someone as dense as you to be a Mind Mage and a Telepath... I haven't jumped off a building to commit suicide in all the years you've been my doctor, so my nature must be resilient. Hurry up and dry Luo Qi off, then go keep an eye on Guan Xinyue. Didn't you hear her say she wants to talk to other Great Mages? Listen and pay attention to details, Doctor. She doesn't trust us right now because of her conflict with Luo Qi. But I think it's best not to let her have too much contact with other Mages; at a time like this, no one knows what's on anyone's mind, and the Mages here aren't necessarily pure in their intentions."

Majiang nodded in frustration; having lost face and being unable to regain it, he reluctantly gave Luo Qi a once-over, sloppily clearing the water from Luo Qi's collar and pillow. "I really should have left you wet, you little Plague God."

Luo Qi shrugged on the pillow, watching the doctor rush out in a mess. "Do you think the doctor likes Guan Xinyue? That's too shameless, right? Guan Xinyue is still just a kid."

"No," Du Zhengyi said without thinking.

Luo Qi suddenly became interested and teased him, "Brother, sometimes you really are like an old stubborn mule, the kind who doesn't even believe that extreme things exist in the world. You know Romeo and Juliet, right? You definitely know this classic masterpiece, right? I knew it. Then do you know that Juliet was only thirteen?"

Du Zhengyi's expression was instantly spectacular; Luo Qi smiled, revealing his little white teeth, "I can. Because I'm not an adult either, and according to the Romeo and Juliet Law, I can be exempt from punishment."

Du Zhengyi chuckled and teased, "You can what? You were almost drowned by someone just now. I think you've ruined all possibilities for you and Guan Xinyue in this lifetime, just because you insisted on forgetting the information about her sister."

Luo Qi smiled, his arms crossed under his head, "That must be an important matter. Although I can't remember it for the moment, I believe it must be an important puzzle piece, not just related to Guan Xinyue; Lu Xinchen must be a key piece of information, connecting many people, perhaps connecting to the core of the whole thing. I might not have understood it very deeply at the time, but I must have guessed something by intuition. You know, for a lucky boy like me, sometimes intuition is the most accurate."

Du Zhengyi squinted at him teasingly, "Lucky dog."

Luo Qi hurriedly covered the little black cat's ears and said dramatically, "How rude, you can't say that in front of it."

Du Zhengyi laughed and reached out to the cat; the little black cat scrutinized him for a while, finally made a motion to touch its own head, and approved Du Zhengyi's petting. Du Zhengyi stroked its head with satisfaction, "Liu Ziyi has already been called in by the Investigation Committee three times; the second time, she told me the committee demanded to examine the big monk in person, and they actually brought that monk in."

Luo Qi thought for a moment before remembering, "The monk who looked like he'd seen a ghost when he saw me?"

Du Zhengyi nodded.
