Chapter 528: Saint
The bedroom was quiet; someone had left a glass of water and a Highland Mage's candle by his bedside. The sky was only slightly dim, not yet late enough to require lighting. Luo Qi knew there was no one in the room before he even woke up.
He lay on his side, slowly opening his eyes to look at the candle. Someone had left him a candle, and he slowly realized that he had been dwelling on one thing—how far away Clownfish was from them. There were many problems at hand, yet he found his thoughts turning over and over, always falling back to Clownfish's Invisible Magic. Among the things that had happened and were about to happen, this was the least important, but in the end, he would always find himself pondering it involuntarily.
There are so many types of Magic in this world; the vast majority of Mages cannot fully master or use the known Magic, let alone the fact that according to literature and actual circumstances, the Progenitor Mages possessed even more powerful Magic. He could easily attribute this situation to Clownfish somehow finding an undiscovered Ancient Magic, and in fact, that was basically the case. He hadn't told the whole truth, but he had asked Du Zhengyi about the Invisible Magic; Du Zhengyi wasn't very interested, only saying that strange Magic occasionally reappears. Luo Qi guessed that the *Chronicles of Battle Mages* that Wen Lin had mentioned must record many strange and bizarre events, history he couldn't find in other literature. However, it might also be because the information he stored was mainly knowledge of Mind Mages, and he lacked the patience to study it carefully.
Du Zhengyi would not waste effort on something that lacked evidence and posed no serious threat. Luo Qi could also see that this Invisible Magic must have great limitations, otherwise, Clownfish would have used it to stir up trouble long ago. If one were to make a technical summary, Clownfish's invisibility was a type of Magic, a Magic that used ordinary Magic Energy, had nothing to do with Telepathy Magic, could evade human eyes, and even appeared to evade human electronic equipment. He still couldn't explain it clearly; a wisp of thought tiptoed across his heart, but when he tried to think about it carefully, he couldn't grasp it. Liu Ziyu must have felt it too; that strange girl was very similar to him in many ways, and the thought that he might be the same kind as her made Luo Qi a bit unhappy.
He would always be somewhat similar to weirdos, and he even had some extra understanding of Clownfish. When Liu Xiuyun accused him of using his Yajian to instruct the Baili Mage to attack him and interfering psychologically with the entire Hearing, he immediately understood what was going on. He really wanted to exclaim that great minds think alike; the whole thing was very much like something he could do—if Du Zhengyi hadn't been watching him the whole time, and if his body hadn't been so weak at the time.
It was truly difficult to do anything behind Du Zhengyi's back. He was certain that a Mind Mage's Magic could not be measured like ordinary Magic, which meant Du Zhengyi could not use the methods he was good at—measuring Magic traces—to check him. At first, Du Zhengyi indeed couldn't discover what he was doing sneakily, but now it was becoming increasingly difficult. He wondered if he had a problem with his facial expression management? Du Zhengyi might have discovered he was cheating based on poker table experience, not based on any mysterious Magic at all.
He had finally managed to send the letter behind Du Zhengyi's back. He didn't know how angry Du Zhengyi was, or if he would completely break ties with him.
Thinking of this, he suddenly became completely clear-headed, realizing something he should have thought of long ago—why wasn't Du Zhengyi here?
Luo Qi sat up from the bed in a panic. Something must have happened; every time he lost consciousness/lost the capacity for civil conduct, nothing good ever happened. He didn't know if that vicious dog Clownfish had left for good, but by intuition, he knew Clownfish would definitely linger nearby like a ghost. He also didn't know what measures the Qionglin would take regarding the news he had already spread.
Great, he hurriedly put on his shoes. Just after he had turned the Qionglin into a complete mess, he had lost consciousness. In the future, he would have to guard against this trick of Du Zhengyi's. He had imagined that Du Zhengyi would certainly not approve of his actions, would debate (argue) with him, or might simply flick his sleeves and leave; the worst possibility was that he would break off relations with him. But he hadn't expected that he would directly pinch him until he passed out; this was truly too direct... No, Luo Qi thought, this was Du Zhengyi's style.
Luo Qi pushed open the door, walked hurriedly into the corridor, and had the illusion of running head-on into a spider web as he passed through the doorway.
Someone in the next room took action immediately; Luo Qi knew that was Majiang. When Du Zhengyi left, he must have set up motion-capture detection Magic on the door; once he made a move, Majiang next door would sense it. Luo Qi decided to settle the score with Du Zhengyi later regarding these baby/pet monitoring measures. The most urgent thing right now was that he didn't want to see Majiang; the Doctor could be more long-winded and annoying than anyone, and the things he said were never pleasant.
He thought quickly about how to get rid of the Doctor, but unfortunately, the Ghosts of the Society were all in Du Zhengyi's hands. His performance in recent days might not have been good enough, and Du Zhengyi hadn't returned them to him, so he had no way to ask his prophet sages for advice. He could only speed up his pace and run through the corridor. He ignored Majiang's loud shouting behind him and turned through the bend in the corridor.
Luo Qi rushed into the hall. Many young Execution Mages of the Qionglin were there, and when they saw clearly that it was Luo Qi, they consciously made way for him, as if he had a bit of rabies. No one took the initiative to greet Luo Qi, and Luo Qi ignored them, bypassed several Highland Mage curtains, and disappeared from the eyes of Majiang, who was a few steps behind.
After circling a few times, Luo Qi popped up in front of the Highland Mage on duty in the hall. He pondered for a moment and said, "Which room is Pei Lao in? He sent a message to see me, and I was in such a hurry that I forgot to ask for the location."
The Highland Mage on duty glanced at the beads of sweat on Luo Qi's forehead. "It should be in the central small reception room in the corridor on my right."
"The one with the swastika turn in this corridor?" Luo Qi confirmed, looking up and glimpsing Majiang finally seeing him from afar.
"Yes," the Highland Mage said.
Luo Qi turned and walked straight toward that end. Majiang chased after him, panting. This time, Luo Qi had no time to hide; he couldn't be hindered anyway.
"Stop, Luo Qi," Majiang called out angrily. "Where are you going?"
"Pei Shu is here," Luo Qi said. "Whenever Du Zhengyi talks to anyone, I must be present."
"What do you mean? Are you a human lawyer?" Majiang said, stunned. "Besides, who told you Venerable Pei is here? How do you know? Not many people know Venerable Pei is here; he only arrived less than ten minutes ago."
Luo Qi bared his teeth and gave him a fake smile. "If he weren't here, who else could call Du Zhengyi away like calling a dog?"
"You really dare to say anything."
"What do I not dare to say? I'm not bragging, but unless he is here, Du Zhengyi wouldn't leave me at this time. He doesn't trust the people here at all. Now the Highland is like a subway station; anyone can drill their way in," Luo Qi said irritably, but his pace grew faster and faster, almost a jog.
"What are you doing, Luo Qi? Even if Venerable Pei is here, why are you in such a hurry? That is Du Zhengyi's teacher, and he's almost like his foster father. Of course, he will talk to Du Zhengyi first when he arrives."
"Yes, yes, he is also a Venerable, a great man, a saint," Luo Qi muttered. "But saints love to persuade others to die the most. I hate saints."
