Chapter 580: Intermittent Magic
The Magic power in the air gradually intensified, scraping against Luo Qi's sensory field as lightly as static electricity. Luo Qi smelled a faint scent of caramel, which vanished as soon as it was blown away by the strong wind of the He Gu.
He now understood that the method Mages usually used to increase their "output power" was to concentrate their mental vitality entirely on the aspect of accurately controlling complex Magic systems, which was equivalent to developing entirely inward. However, he suspected that this kind of Magic could only be used by someone who already had a brain, such as Liu Ziyi; she was a genius to begin with. Furthermore, doing this was certainly not safe, so Liu Ziyi needed Du Zhengyi to help her "guard the formation." Even she had to prevent problems from occurring during this process; if she ran into trouble, such as suffering a Qi deviation, Du Zhengyi truly had the ability to discover and awaken her.
It was just that Luo Qi would leave it at observing this way of amplifying oneself; if there ever came a day when he returned to school, he would also cross this course off his course selection list. This method was not suitable for a Mind Mage. He actually had a method of his own—closing off external perception to save some brain capacity—but it could not be improved to the level of Liu Ziyi. One only had to look at the complexity of the Magic system she was weaving now to know.
For a Mind Mage, improving the efficiency of one's own brain was far less reasonable than using someone else's brain. For example, the Mind Mage Array that manipulated the Alien at the time, and also, for example, Luo Qi's own Crystal (of course it was his, it was his to begin with!).
Luo Qi suppressed his dissatisfaction and looked up into the distance, just happening to catch a glimpse of Wusu far away. At this moment, Wusu was standing motionless in the wind, wondering what he was thinking about. A handsome man standing blankly in the wilderness was, of course, pleasing to the eye, attracting Guan Xinyue to steal glances at him again and again, but since he was certainly not an idiot, there had to be a reasonable explanation for his appearance. Wusu must also be using some kind of Magic.
Luo Qi turned his head and watched Liu Ziyi for a while longer, feeling a bit frustrated; Liu Ziyi's brain was simply too fast. He had just wanted to tell Du Zhengyi that Liu Ziyi's supernatural powers were too vast and he couldn't keep up at all, but then he remembered they didn't allow him to speak like that, so he changed his words dryly, "I can't see clearly the Magic Liu Ziyi is using."
"For now, you only need to be able to see clearly the structure of the Magic Liu Ziyi is organizing," Du Zhengyi said in a low voice.
"I can't see that clearly either," Luo Qi said righteously.
"Try adjusting your own visual latency, materialize the energy flow in your Yajian, image it one second later, and visualize all the Magic flows in the fictional image," Du Zhengyi said.
Luo Qi looked at him with half-belief, and he secretly glared at Luo Qi. Luo Qi could tell that the argument from just now hadn't actually finished; Du Zhengyi still had plenty to spit at him right now. He wasn't someone to be trifled with either; he really didn't want to bicker with Du Zhengyi, but he could make everyone here annoyed in less than five minutes! However, they all had to remain silent now, absolute silence.
The two did not want to disturb Liu Ziyi's work, their body postures almost completely still, staring at each other motionlessly for a few seconds, and Luo Qi's face twitched. As if guessing that he was about to be unable to help but laugh until he twitched, Du Zhengyi frustratedly reached out his hand, "Watch."
Luo Qi subconsciously looked at Du Zhengyi's hand; he opened his palm, and a cluster of power as light as a feather rose from his hand. "Give it an image."
Luo Qi followed this wisp of Magic power; in his field of vision, a feather danced gracefully from Du Zhengyi's hand.
"Follow it," Du Zhengyi said softly.
Luo Qi chased after this feather; the feather gently approached a layer of Magic created by Liu Ziyi, as if pulling a thread out of a complex web. The feather slid along the thread, pulled by the power. Luo Qi marked the path of the feather; the flashing power followed the path as it wandered, with the related incantations attached to it, as well as the unclear Magic medium pulled by the incantations.
"This is a type of Metal Detection Magic," Du Zhengyi said, "It is a material commonly used by Progenitor Mages."
The feather jumped out of the trajectory of this Magic, and Luo Qi hurriedly followed it again. The shape of another Magic was highlighted, and Du Zhengyi said, "This is a detection Magic for checking local Communication Magic. If someone has used local Magic communication recently, it will leave traces in the public Magic space."
Luo Qi moved his Yajian slightly, marking the Magic that was of the same quality as the feather, and saw Du Zhengyi's power flowing like a trickling stream into Liu Ziyi's Magic well. He was pulling and monitoring Liu Ziyi's basic vital signs; Luo Qi bypassed this power, afraid of tripping over Liu Ziyi's oxygen tube.
The Magic network before his eyes became more and more complex. Luo Qi gradually began to understand some of the organizational patterns of complex Magic, and thus became fascinated. He formalized some Magic with colors and shapes, and for some Magic he truly couldn't understand, he even used sounds to represent them. Luo Qi secretly took notes on some incantations, picking and choosing to transcribe them, and even drew a three-dimensional diagram of Liu Ziyi's Magic structure.
The anomaly appeared at this moment; a wisp of unexpected disturbance suddenly appeared in Liu Ziyi's orderly Magic structure. Luo Qi turned his gaze back in confusion in the world of Yajian; at first, he thought Liu Ziyi had found something, but he discovered that the trembling power was the Magic Du Zhengyi had added to Liu Ziyi's system.
"What is it?" Luo Qi asked, "Is there a problem with Liu Ziyi's body?"
"No." A trace of confusion appeared on Du Zhengyi's face.
Luo Qi suddenly moved closer to Du Zhengyi's Magic, waved his hand in the world of Yajian to remove all other formalized Magic, and magnified the identification of Du Zhengyi's Magic. The moment he concentrated on magnifying the Magic identification, it was as if a door had been opened, and the clamor of the Magic World suddenly burst forth. A flickering Magic form appeared out of thin air, wanting to pull Du Zhengyi's Magic. Luo Qi seemed to hear the sound of drums, but he wasn't sure what this drum sound simulated in his mind actually meant.
What truly surprised him was that the Magic that appeared out of thin air flickered with the same color as Du Zhengyi's Magic.
Of course, this did not mean that Magic itself had color or shape; shape and color were both the subjective feelings of the person reading the Magic. This only indicated that, in Luo Qi's view, this segment of Magic had the same Magic characteristics as Du Zhengyi's Magic. The reason could be that Luo Qi had seen it wrong, but that was impossible; the Magic that drifted over like a soul was simply Magic of the same quality as Du Zhengyi's.
"What is going on?" Luo Qi could not control his tone; he shouted, and at the same time discovered that Liu Ziyi's Magic was indeed flickering unstably because of his emotional agitation, but he couldn't care about that.
"Luo Qi." Du Zhengyi called out to him in a steady voice. "Calm down."
"Don't give me that nonsense, don't you connect with it, it's a Summoning Magic, I can tell, don't touch it!... Wait, you dispelled the Magic? Why did you dispel it? I could have tried touching it, I can capture it," Luo Qi shouted.
"It wasn't me, the Magic disappeared on its own. Calm down," Du Zhengyi said patiently, "Its power was too weak, the connection failed, and so it disappeared."
"What?" Luo Qi looked at him in disbelief, discerning whether Du Zhengyi was lying to him; his reaction was a bit intense, but he was fed up with others hiding things from him.
Liu Ziyi exited the state of Meditation and clutched her temples with a headache, "Luo Qi, that was a self-starting Intermittent Magic."
"What?" Luo Qi subconsciously repeated these two words again.
"An Intermittent Magic, cast once every interval of time. I only had time to read one incantation, and I can confirm that the meaning of this incantation is to cycle back and forth. I don't know what this Magic wants to do, but I can be certain that this Magic appears in cycles; if it doesn't reach its goal, it will fall asleep until the waiting time ends, and then it will initiate once more."
"Then how long is the interval?" Luo Qi asked anxiously.
Liu Ziyi shook her head, "I don't know. But I think, it wouldn't just happen to appear once every three or five years and be run into by us, right? Maybe it will happen in five minutes, maybe once a day."
