Chapter 59: The Anchor Point of Consciousness

~7 min read 1,327 words

"Let me try," Ma Jiang said.

"No." Luo Qi sat on the bed, raising his arms to block in front of him in resistance, "Forget it."

"Luo Qi." Du Zhengyi spoke from the side to persuade him, "Ma Jiang is a Mind Master, and also a Doctor; you need to let him help you."

Luo Qi shook his head in frustration, looking at Du Zhengyi in pain, "You don't understand. He has no confidence, his will is constantly wavering, and I don't trust him at all."

Du Zhengyi looked at Luo Qi in surprise, while Ma Jiang did not feel offended, shrugging his shoulders and saying nonchalantly, "Zhe's Third Law, he is indeed not wrong. To conduct mental guidance under these circumstances, unless his Telepathy ability is three levels lower than mine. But I don't have that confidence; he clearly looks like a high-energy molecule."

Du Zhengyi had nothing to say; he thought of Luo Qi's parents. But now, Luo Qi's parents might already be under surveillance, and the observers were very likely from two sides: the Society, and the Lotus Burner. Under these circumstances, every move should be extremely cautious, as the consequences could be very complicated.

Furthermore, although the awakening of a Mage's abilities can be early or late, and potential might be slowly unearthed during growth, there has never been a situation like Luo Qi's, where abilities pour out like a burst dam, even nearly exceeding the capacity of the host's body. The only possible reason he could think of was that Luo Qi's Telepathy ability had been artificially restricted, and the only ones who could do that were his parents. He did not know much about Telepaths, but he felt to some extent that seeking help from his parents might not be wise. He trusted Luo Qi, but he did not trust other Telepaths as much, and this included his parents.

"Luo Qi," Ma Jiang said, pondering, "You originally should have had a core of consciousness; try to recall it."

Luo Qi immediately thought of that home from his childhood, the endless cycle, the three-year-old birthday that never ended; he couldn't help but tremble all over, and then he began to dry-heave.

"What is going on?" Ma Jiang asked the frowning and dazed Du Zhengyi, "No way? Is his mental core that disgusting?"

"I think, Li Xu probably put a lot of effort into targeting his original mental core," Du Zhengyi said, "You can only teach him to rebuild one."

"Normally, if he had been a Telepath since childhood, he would naturally be accustomed to the surface consciousness and deep consciousness around him. Before learning the way normal people perceive the world, Telepaths have their own set of methods for perceiving the world," Ma Jiang said, troubled. "I have never encountered a situation like his; I really don't understand why someone would block his natural abilities when he was still young. You have to know this is like blocking a river; with Luo Qi's ability, he is the Amazon River. No matter how sturdy the dam is built, to block such a great river, the result will sooner or later be a collapse."

"Actually, he wasn't completely blocked," Du Zhengyi said. "We once came into contact with a Telepath; that person's Telepathy level wasn't too high, but it was a bit special. Luo Qi's deep consciousness read her secret at the time, but he himself didn't realize it at all; he treated that secret about a murder as an imagined story and processed it before telling it."

Luo Qi's face turned deathly pale from dry-heaving; hearing this, he raised his head and looked at Du Zhengyi in astonishment.

"That must have been the sign of the dam about to collapse; the water flow had already started leaking from the cracks," Ma Jiang said with a serious expression, and after speaking, he fell into deep thought.

"Who was it?" Luo Qi suddenly asked without context.

Du Zhengyi's expression was somewhat strange, "It was that girl you were reciting poetry to at the teahouse."

Ma Jiang let out a "pfft" of laughter from the side, "The kid's moves are so flamboyant?"

Luo Qi thought in a daze for a long while before he could barely recall a shadow. "It's her?" he muttered. He remembered the scene he saw from a first-person perspective of stabbing a living person's eye when his consciousness was connected to Li Xu's. If he weren't truly unable to vomit anything more, he would definitely have started vomiting again right now.

"That person said she didn't even dare to touch Luo Qi," Du Zhengyi said to Ma Jiang, "because Luo Qi was like a void. It was at that moment that I realized there was likely a powerful barrier in Luo Qi's consciousness, and inside this barrier, there was an exceptionally active sensing power. Luo Qi was completely unfamiliar with the power of consciousness, so he couldn't actively handle the subconsciousness that permeated his mind; on this point, I couldn't fully trust him at the time. Later, I thought about Luo Qi's peculiarities; he had almost no reaction to illusions. It was only then that I realized this was both because he had a strong barrier and because he himself was a high-energy Telepath. Do you know? He could see Pei Shu's true appearance at a glance."

"What?" Ma Jiang's unserious side seemed to be triggered back, "Damn, Luo Qi, what does Pei Shu's true appearance look like? Is he bald?"

Du Zhengyi stared at him inscrutably; he chuckled a few times, and Luo Qi didn't pay him any mind either.

"In short," Ma Jiang probably wanted to regain some face and straightened his position, "let's not talk about these useless things. Luo Qi, you first need to imagine an Anchor Point in your heart..."

"What is an Anchor Point?" Luo Qi wrapped the blanket tighter and interrupted him gloomily.

"It's a place, object, or person that makes you feel familiar and safe; anything will do. What was your original consciousness core? You can think about it; is it something similar to this?" Ma Jiang said coaxingly. He had returned to his professional field and started to get serious.

"My home from when I was young," Luo Qi said in a dry voice, "I was having my third birthday, my parents were both there, and they gave me a water cup with a goldfish inside. They kept warning me not to let go of the cup, otherwise, the goldfish would die."

"Ah, a scene very suitable for a young child," Ma Jiang said. "This should be a thought planted deep in your consciousness when you were young, an environment that made you happy and comfortable, but it was all to keep that goldfish; in fact, that goldfish is the key. Presumably, you liked goldfish very much when you were young; perhaps at that time, you wouldn't have let go and killed the goldfish under any circumstances. The reason for doing this is because no matter how powerful a Mind Master is, when planting a Shield in someone else's mind, they need that person to cooperate; to put it plainly, this mental Shield must be upheld by the person's own will."

Luo Qi nodded and said nothing.

Ma Jiang continued, "An Anchor Point can stabilize your Consciousness World. After this Anchor Point exists, the Consciousness World gradually builds up around it. Next, what you need to do is to solidify your original consciousness; this is the key to protecting your own existence. I believe you understand that the reason we exist is because we retain a pure and complete self-consciousness. No matter what you know actively or passively, whether it is other people's memories or thoughts, these things should only exist in the form of knowledge, stabilized in the subsets of your consciousness."

Luo Qi nodded again, "I understand." He raised his eyes to look at Ma Jiang, "But can I do it?"
