Chapter 658: The Ancestor's Gift (47)

~7 min read 1,280 words

Luo Qi's gaze shifted from the scattered crystal fragments on the ground to Liu Ziyi, "Why can those savages use the crystals for Teleportation?"

Liu Ziyi shook her head.

"If they can use the wild Pendragon Orbital System, why can't we?" Luo Qi asked again. If he could teleport directly to Du Zhengyi, that would certainly be best.

"Theoretically, it could be attempted, but there is still a great deal of uncertainty. Besides, these crystals don't look like they can be touched directly, which makes them very difficult to study," Liu Ziyi assessed.

Luo Qi silently calculated the time, "Then you must overcome the difficulty. I'll give you five minutes. If there's no hope after five minutes, we'll take the long way around."

"What? Five minutes?" Liu Ziyi cried out, looking at Luo Qi in disbelief. He was simply a heartless capitalist—no, a feudal landlord.

Luo Qi, feeling no guilt, tapped his left wrist, "Time waits for no one, Junior Sister. I'm starting the timer."

Liu Ziyi lowered her head in vexation, countless magical symbols fluttering from her hands.

Luo Qi reined in his smile, checked the time for real, and then quickly scanned his surroundings, settling on Yan Hao's blank face in the crowd. The latter was looking at him with curiosity. "Yan Hao, you're the one. Come with me."

"Huh?" Yan Hao was stunned for a moment, but his expression immediately brightened. Flattered, he puffed out his chest and moved toward him without even asking where they were going, "Alright!"

"Luo Qi, where are you going?" Majiang asked immediately, on high alert. With Du Zhengyi absent, he truly wished he could tie a rope to Luo Qi.

"Just going to relieve myself, Mama. I've already brought a bodyguard," Luo Qi said, turning to give Yan Hao a look before striding away without hesitation.

"Huh?" Yan Hao let out a surprised monosyllable, but Luo Qi had already started walking away, so he hurried to follow.

Majiang was left speechless; with so many outsiders present, it wasn't easy for him to say too much. Plus, given the five-minute limit Luo Qi had just set, he was sure to return within that time. Majiang had no choice but to check the time as well. Zhao Jiaozhu was likely of the same mind; he watched Luo Qi leave, and though he didn't trust him, he couldn't say anything to his face.

Luo Qi's speed was indeed as if he were desperate for the bathroom; he was almost as agile as a normal Battle Mage. He didn't care if Yan Hao was keeping up, nor did he hear a word of what Yan Hao said to him. With his back to the crowd, his expression turned completely grave. He crossed the corridor in a few steps and returned to the room from before.

Luo Qi paused at the door for a second, looked at the trace of blood remaining on the wall, pushed the door open, and ignored the two skeletons in the room. Yan Hao was startled when he followed him in, uneasily stretching his long legs to carefully avoid stepping on the dead men's bones.

Luo Qi scanned the surroundings and sure enough, saw a bloodstain on the floor. He quickly squucked down to examine it closely; he could vaguely make out the shape of a heel. There was some biological tissue in the blood stuck to the floor—they might have all stepped on some biological flesh and blood under their feet—but this footprint looked more like someone had stepped in it barefoot. Humanoid, barefoot...

"Did the first savage run here?" Yan Hao asked in surprise.

Luo Qi glanced at him, not expecting Yan Hao to react so quickly. It seemed most Battle Mages could be considered both intelligent and brave, generally falling somewhere between Du Zhengyi and a Silverback Gorilla.

Luo Qi stood up and walked toward the wall at the end of the room. This time, he skillfully used the Spell he had extracted from the Memory Package, adding his own strong intent, and the wall responded to his request. The silver-white wall turned into flowing mist, which thinned in an instant. The human bodies appeared once again behind the transparent wall, looking at them through the invisible barrier. This time, Luo Qi did not summon them; they rested peacefully in the sarcophagi behind the wall, gazing at him.

"Ah, ah..." Yan Hao stepped back in surprise, unable to speak. If he hadn't seen that Luo Qi was making no move, which steadied his heart, he would have almost acted rashly and thrown a Fireball inside to burn them.

Luo Qi ignored Yan Hao's reaction. He looked straight at the crowd behind the wall, silently pondering. The invisible sarcophagi carrying the ten people in the front row moved smoothly to the sides, revealing the faces behind them, then turned and swapped positions, with three rows of people appearing in the front in turn. Luo Qi checked their numbers and verified every face; there was no change.

The final permutation left the vacant spot at the very front. Luo Qi stared motionless at the empty space, fixing his eyes on the silver protrusion beneath it. One protrusion, one point, one sarcophagus.

"Luo... Great Mage Luo, you aren't... aren't going in, are you?" Yan Hao asked uneasily.

Luo Qi snapped out of his trance and looked at Yan Hao in confusion, then realized that his staring at these things must have looked quite creepy. He didn't want to say much, so he patted Yan Hao's arm in a comforting gesture; he had originally intended to pat his shoulder, but it was a bit of a stretch.

"Let's go," Luo Qi said, turning to walk out while checking the time again.

"We're just leaving? Great Mage Luo, what were you looking at? No, wait, what are these? Are they people? Or Mages?" Yan Hao asked, unable to stop himself from looking back at the people behind the wall. After Luo Qi turned away, the wall gradually returned to an opaque state, and the crowd was once again hidden behind the thick mist. He hurried to keep up with Luo Qi's pace.

"Why do you think I would know?" Luo Qi asked amiably, leaving Yan Hao stunned.

Before he could figure out how to respond, Luo Qi had already run back to the corridor where everyone else was. Yan Hao instinctively felt it was best to drop the subject.

"Junior Sister, can the elevator be activated?" Luo Qi called out.

The expression on Liu Ziyi's face was very anxious, "Do you know how hard this is?"

"No matter how hard it is, I believe the Ancestor Mage must have grasped the principles of the Orbital Teleportation System from these things. You are a descendant of the Ancestor Mage, and you have inherited the teleportation theory. Now that you're asked to reverse-engineer it using primitive crystals, you can definitely do it. You aren't stupid," Luo Qi said calmly.

Liu Ziyi's anxiety climbed another level, the constantly shifting magical pulses making her hair stand on end. "But you can't just give me five minutes."

"Five minutes are up," Luo Qi said, checking the time. "Let's switch to walking."

"Wait, wait, wait!" Liu Ziyi almost screamed, "Give me two more minutes! Just give me two more minutes!"

Luo Qi looked at her gently and said, "Junior Sister, do you need me to use the Mind Master's method to catalyze your brain?"

"Shut up, Luo Qi!" Liu Ziyi yelled. Suddenly, everyone felt a faint pull, and before the teleportation, they still had time to hear Liu Ziyi's irritable remark, "If it doesn't work, we'll all die together!"
