Chapter 23: The Phoenix Never Dies, It Only Reborns! (Please Follow!)

~2 min read 369 words

The next day.

Taking advantage of it being Saturday, Hawk arrived early in the morning at the apartment across from the Queensboro Bridge Park.

His new apartment was right here.

It didn't take much time to find this place.

After all, while high-quality, affordable apartments are hard to find, cheap apartments are a dime a dozen.

But even for a cheap apartment, the landlord wouldn't rent to a minor, especially since he couldn't provide any guarantor.

However...

It was only after Hawk hurriedly explained that he had already applied to the court for emancipation that the landlord finally relented.

And so.

Hawk came over first thing in the morning.

Upon seeing that Hawk had already confirmed his emancipation through the court, the landlord didn't waste any more breath, signed the lease agreement with Hawk directly, and after Hawk handed over six months' rent, left the apartment keys with him, completing the handover process.

After the landlord left, Hawk closed the door and looked at his new apartment.

The new apartment wasn't very large either.

To put it somewhat dramatically, it looked exactly like a box crushed by life.

Old carpets, mottled walls.

The living room was pitifully small; after placing a second-hand sofa and a folding dining table, one had to be careful even when turning around.

The bedroom was the same; once a bed was put in, there was no extra space left.

However...

Though the area was small, it had everything it needed.

The most important point.

This new apartment, just like his previous one, had a fire escape outside the window that led directly to the rooftop terrace.

This was also the reason why Hawk had asked the landlord to give him time to handle the court emancipation matter.

Besides.

For an apartment that cost seven hundred dollars a month, what more could he ask for?

Hawk spent two days cleaning and arranging his new apartment.

Calling it "arranging" was really just buying a new mattress and replacing the old, somewhat yellowed showerhead in the bathroom.

He also opened the windows to air out the apartment for two days, which finally managed to dispel the curry smell that had been lingering in the room.

Of course.
