Chapter 8: Marvel: Awakening the Cosmo at the Start, Chapter 5

~4 min read 713 words

A Chitauri soldier, currently in the sky piloting a craft and shrieking as he whistled toward this direction, also spotted Hawk standing on the rooftop.

After all, for invaders, what they love to see most is the public helplessly screaming and wailing, trying to escape their blades under the pressure of their invasion.

Therefore, while everyone else was fleeing in a panic, Hawk alone stood right there, motionless; it would have been hard not to notice him.

Their eyes met.

Within Hawk’s deep blue pupils, a star seemed to be flickering.

"Human!"

The Chitauri soldier looked at Hawk, who was locking eyes with him; hidden beneath the dark alloy visor, his eyes, which resembled those of a snake, seemed to receive some sort of signal, and he broke away from his unit, piloting his craft to dive toward Hawk on the rooftop.

He opened with an energy blast.

Energy filled with a destructive aura gathered at the front of the craft, and the moment it condensed into shape, it was fired directly at Hawk.

Hawk watched the energy blast rapidly expand in his field of vision, his pupils slightly constricting.

Boom!

The energy blast slammed into the rooftop floor, shattering the ground instantly; as it emitted a loud noise, it kicked up a cloud of dust.

The Chitauri soldier watched Hawk, who had moved away the instant the energy blast landed and appeared on the other side unscathed, and pulled the trigger again without any expression.

"Bang, bang, bang!"

"Boom, boom, boom!"

The apartment rooftop looked as if it had met the apocalypse, being bombarded by the Chitauri soldier with a flurry of energy blasts.

Gravel splattered.

Dust filled the sky.

Hawk’s figure wove back and forth through the dust, dodging the Chitauri soldier’s energy blasts one after another.

His figure shifted rapidly beneath the Chitauri soldier’s energy blasts.

At first, Hawk had been a bit flustered, but now he had calmed down and was handling it with ease.

He had only spent less than a minute.

A Saint is, by nature, born for war.

The Chitauri soldier fired repeatedly.

"Bang, bang, click!"

Accompanied by a crisp sound, the soldier, who had been continuously firing energy blasts, suddenly paused his movements, then looked down at the craft whose magazine had been emptied.

Just at this moment.

The wind whistled.

The Chitauri soldier looked up, and what met his eyes was a broken steel plate from a water tank whistling out from the dust, slamming fiercely into his craft with a bang.

The craft was struck by the broken water tank plate and instantly lurched; the Chitauri soldier sitting on it flew off instinctively, and as a result, through a moment of carelessness, he fell directly from the craft.

"Thud!"

"Hiss!"

The Chitauri soldier who had fallen onto the rooftop quickly rose to his feet and drew the weapon from his back, which resembled a firearm but was also powered by a ghostly green energy source.

"Hiss, hiss, hiss!"

The Chitauri soldier made an indescribable sound, seemingly saying something, or perhaps communicating with his own kind.

Although Hawk did not quite understand what this Chitauri soldier was doing, he did not care much about it.

After all...

We’re fighting, take it seriously!

The apartment rooftop at this moment had already been battered by the Chitauri soldier’s frantic attack and was already broken beyond recognition.

Although it hadn't collapsed yet, it was no different from having collapsed.

More than half of the rooftop floor had caved in, and some parts, after collapsing, continued their momentum to cave into the third floor, making the scene of the third-floor apartment visible.

However, no one noticed what was happening on the rooftop.

New Yorkers might not be good at other things, but when it came to saving their own lives, no one understood it better than they did.

After all, having grown up amidst various shootings and terrorist attacks, New Yorkers had long since mastered the skill of turning around and prioritizing their own survival the moment danger arrived.

The dust on the rooftop gradually dissipated.

Soon.

Hawk’s figure appeared.

The Chitauri soldier looked at Hawk, who had appeared before him; a cold light flashed in his ghostly green eyes, and he instantly pulled his trigger.

"Die!"
