Chapter 114: Are you satisfied?
At noon the next day, Gu Yan struggled to get up from the bed.
Her waist was sore and her back ached; anyone who didn't know better would think she had done some strenuous exercise last night.
She rubbed her waist.
In her heart, she cursed Shen Yanhui a thousand times.
Dragging her sore and weak body, she finally arrived at the exhibition hall. Lin Wei was waiting for her at the entrance. Seeing her get out of the car, Lin Wei's eyes lit up, and she stepped forward quickly in her high heels.
"You're here, you're here, the leading lady is here."
Gu Yan walked over, was grabbed by the arm, and was dragged into the exhibition hall.
She couldn't help but hiss in pain.
Lin Wei's footsteps faltered. She swept her gaze over Gu Yan and clicked her tongue twice: "Pretty intense, huh?"
Gu Yan couldn't be bothered to pay her any mind and walked straight into the exhibition hall.
Because it was a workday, there weren't many people in the hall at this hour.
"Hurry up and tell me, what exactly are you doing? You're being so mysterious; you wouldn't even tell me when I asked you last night."
"If I told you, would it still be a surprise?"
Lin Wei squinted at her: "You're so attentive to that buyer, isn't your Mr. Shen getting jealous?"
Gu Yan's footsteps faltered.
Heh, how could he not be jealous?
He even gets jealous of himself!
Gu Yan walked forward a few steps, then suddenly stopped and pointed to the piano in the corner. It was prepared by the organizers for the opening ceremony—a black grand piano, standing quietly in the shadows with its lid closed.
"Help me find someone to tune it, then move it to the center of the main hall, right in front of *Floating Light Leaping Gold*."
Lin Wei was stunned for a moment: "Why tune the piano? Are you going to play?"
Gu Yan curled the corners of her lips.
"Guess."
Five minutes before three in the afternoon, the exhibition hall doors were pushed open.
The afternoon sunlight poured in from the glass doors, plating the newcomer's silhouette in a layer of pale gold. The tall, well-built man walked in at a steady pace, his black leather shoes making very slight sounds as they landed on the smooth floor tiles.
The man walked slowly along the exhibition wall, his assistant following behind him.
Lin Wei came up from around the corner, a standard professional smile on her face.
"Hello, are you the buyer here to pick up *Floating Light Leaping Gold*—"
Halfway through her sentence, she saw the newcomer's face clearly.
That overly handsome face.
Isn't that Shen Yanhui?
Lin Wei was stunned, then stunned again; she felt a bit shocked but also felt she shouldn't be surprised.
"Miss Lin." Shen Yanhui nodded slightly.
"……Mr. Shen, please this way." Lin Wei's voice was a bit airy.
She stepped aside, her movements as mechanical as if she were wound up by a spring.
Shen Yanhui walked past her, his gaze landing on the darkness ahead, the corners of his lips curving imperceptibly.
In the main hall, all the lights were off.
Only a single spotlight poured down from above, landing on the piano that had been moved to the center at some unknown time.
There was a young woman sitting in front of the piano.
She was wearing a white long dress made of silk fabric, the hem of the skirt hanging softly to the floor, spreading out like a small patch of moonlight. Her hair was loose, with a few stray strands falling by her cheeks, making her profile look exceptionally beautiful.
Shen Yanhui stood at the entrance, not moving.
He looked at the person in the beam of light, watching her slightly lowered head, her hands resting gently on the piano keys. Then she looked up at him.
Their eyes met.
She curled the corners of her lips.
The sound of the piano rang out.
It was *Marriage D'Amour*.
The first note fell like a drop of water into a still lake, ripples slowly spreading out. Her fingers moved across the keys, the notes flowing out one by one.
She didn't play fast, and it was even a bit unpolished, but she was exceptionally earnest.
Shen Yanhui just listened quietly.
The last note fell, the lingering sound echoing softly in the empty exhibition hall before gradually dissipating.
Gu Yan stood up, lifted her skirt, and walked toward him step by step.
Her footsteps were very light, yet they were exceptionally clear in the empty exhibition hall. The spotlight followed her movement, like a stage spotlight.
She walked up to him, stopped, and looked up at him.
The distance was very close. Close enough for him to see the small mole at the corner of her eye, close enough to smell the faint floral scent on her.
"Sir," her voice was soft, her eyes curving into two crescent moons, "are you satisfied?"
He didn't speak.
He only raised his hand to tuck a stray strand of hair by her cheek behind her ear. His fingertips brushed against her cheek, carrying a slight warmth, then lingered on her earlobe, pinching it gently.
"When did you learn this?"
She blinked: "I learned it when I was little, but it's been neglected for a long time. I practiced all night for today."
She had wanted to practice last night too, but he hadn't acted like a human being.
He looked at her.
"This piece of music," she continued, her eyes bright, "I chose it specifically. Because I thought, you waited four years, there ought to be a special gift."
He was silent for two seconds.
"Four years," he said, his voice low, "you remember it that clearly?"
Gu Yan blinked, the corners of her lips curving up: "Of course I remember. That day, the new paints I bought got soaked in the rain, and I was furious, but then I looked up and saw an injured handsome guy..."
She paused, deliberately leaning in closer, and lowered her voice: "And the handsome guy kept staring at me."
He looked at her without speaking.
She continued: "I thought right then, this person is really good-looking."
He curved the corners of his mouth.
"And then?"
"And then?" She tilted her head, "Then I left, without even asking for his name."
He raised his hand, his thumb brushing over the small mole at the corner of her eye.
"Regret it?"
She thought for a moment and shook her head.
"No regrets," she said, her eyes bright, "anyway, now you're mine."
He looked at her, his gaze so deep it seemed as if it would pull her in.
Gu Yan felt her heartbeat skip a beat under his gaze, her eyelashes trembled, and she bit her lip, asking softly: "Then... mysterious buyer, are you satisfied with the painting?"
"Satisfied," he said.
She curved her eyes.
He withdrew his gaze and looked at her again.
"But even more satisfied," he paused, "with the person who painted it."
Gu Yan was stunned for a moment, then threw herself into his arms.
Shen Yanhui caught her steadily, his arms wrapping around her waist. She tilted her face up in his arms, her eyes bright as if filled with starlight.
"Shen Yanhui," she leaned closer, staring into his eyes, "did you have a crush on me since back then?"
He looked down at her.
"Mm."
Her eyes grew even brighter, that little bit of smugness impossible to hide, yet she still deliberately asked: "You like me that much?"
He let out a low laugh, the vibration of his chest carrying over.
"How much I like you," he lowered his head, his thin lips almost brushing against her earlobe, his voice growing a few shades huskier, "didn't you feel it last night?"
The roots of her ears turned red in a flash.
But she did not dodge.
She stood on tiptoe, leaning to his ear. He cooperated by lowering his head.
She said in a breathy voice, soft, yet every word clear:
"I felt it... I felt it three times, without stopping once."
She continued, her voice carrying a hint of triumphant laughter, her breath brushing against his earlobe: "Shen Yanhui, your technique is quite good, I like it very much."
Shen Yanhui's eyes darkened: "Gu Yan, do you still want to get out of bed tomorrow?"
The young girl blinked, not afraid in the slightest.
"You wouldn't bear to."
Shen Yanhui laughed again: "True, I wouldn't bear to."
In the corner, Chang Su withdrew his gaze and said to Lin Wei beside him: "Let's go, stop watching."
Lin Wei nodded and followed him as they walked out.
As they walked, she muttered in a low voice: "Being this lovey-dovey every day, don't they get tired?"
Chang Su sighed: "You'll get used to it."
These days, he had been fed enough public displays of affection to be full.
