Chapter 120: I Can Cover It

~8 min read 1,507 words

Gu Yan was led by Shen Yanhui toward the car, completely bewildered: "What documents?"

He did not answer, merely pulling open the car door and signaling for her to get in.

Gu Yan climbed in suspiciously, and he followed, sitting down as the car pulled smoothly out of the villa district.

Twenty minutes later, the car stopped downstairs at the Shen Group.

Gu Yan looked at the towering building before her, even more confused.

"Why are we here?"

Shen Yanhui had already exited the car, walked around to her side, opened the door, and reached out a hand toward her.

"To sign some papers."

The top floor, Shen Yanhui's office.

Gu Yan stood at the entrance, looking at the wide desk. It was piled high with documents, stacked into a small mountain and arranged neatly, with a steaming cup of coffee sitting to the side.

She was stunned: "... You want me to sign these?"

Shen Yanhui walked behind the desk, picked up the document on top, flipped it open, and pointed to a certain spot.

"Come over, sign this one first."

Gu Yan walked over, took the pen he handed her, and lowered her head to look.

The dense text made her head ache.

"What is this?"

"The investment plan for the Shen Group for the next quarter." Shen Yanhui stood at her side, leaning over slightly, and pointed to one of the lines, "Here, this is the capital flow. These projects..."

He explained the situation of each project concisely, using plain language to ensure Gu Yan could understand.

Gu Yan nodded and lowered her head to sign her name.

Although she didn't know why she had to sign them.

But Shen Yanhui wouldn't set her up.

If he really did, she would kick him out of bed, drive him out of the room, and let him spend the night alone.

After she finished signing, Shen Yanhui took it, flipped through it, confirmed it was correct, and set it aside. He then picked up the second one and opened it.

"This one is the equity change for an overseas subsidiary."

He pointed to one of the pages and began to explain. From the subsidiary's background, equity structure, and reasons for the change, to the impact it would bring after the change, he explained it all clearly.

As Gu Yan listened, she suddenly felt something was not quite right.

She raised her head and looked at him.

"Wait."

He stopped.

"Why are you explaining so much to me?"

Shen Yanhui looked at her.

Gu Yan pointed to the documents: "Aren't these all your business? You can just sign them, why do I have to?"

Shen Yanhui curved the corners of his mouth.

He put down the document in his hand and looked at her: "Because you are the largest shareholder of the Shen Group."

Gu Yan was taken aback.

Shen Yanhui's lips curled up: "Legally speaking, you are the one in charge of the Shen Group now. These investments, these projects, these decisions—they all require your signature to take effect."

Gu Yan: "..."

She thought she just had to collect dividends; how did she end up having to participate in decision-making? She was just a painter; how could she know how to manage a company?

Shen Yanhui was overestimating her.

Gu Yan blinked, then blinked again, looking down at the pen in her hand, then at the pile of documents on the table that looked like heavenly scripts.

"... I don't understand any of this."

Shen Yanhui's tone was natural, as if he had already thought it through: "I will teach you."

"For every one of these documents, I will explain it clearly to you. What the project is, how much is being invested, the expected return, and where the risks lie. If you understand and think it's okay, you sign. If you don't think it's okay, you don't sign."

Gu Yan said innocently: "Then... what if I sign the wrong thing?"

"You won't. I will help you watch over it, but you must know what you are signing." He paused, his eyes filled with a smile, "Even if you really do make a mistake, it doesn't matter; it would just be a little money lost."

A little money?

He called these investments worth hundreds of millions "a little money"? Gu Yan couldn't help but mutter to herself.

Shen Yanhui looked at her expression, and his smile deepened: "The Shen Group can afford the loss, and I can cover it."

He raised his hand and tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear: "So don't be afraid, just sign according to your own wishes. If anything happens, I am here."

A very strange feeling suddenly welled up in Gu Yan's heart.

A feeling of being firmly supported.

She suddenly remembered learning to ride a bicycle as a child, with Gu Fanglin holding the seat from behind, running until he was drenched in sweat, constantly shouting, "Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, Dad is right behind you."

Later, she found out that her father had actually let go long ago.

But he still followed carefully behind, just to give her a sense of security so she could move forward fearlessly.

"Chairman Gu, do you still have any concerns?"

Gu Yan's ears grew hot at being called by this title.

She glared at him, but couldn't help but curve her lips: "You did that on purpose, didn't you?"

He didn't speak, merely handing her another document.

"The next one, the expansion plan for the overseas market."

He began to explain, his tone concise but clear in its logic. When he reached key points, he would circle them with his pen and point them out to her.

Gu Yan listened, nodding from time to time.

Although there were some parts she didn't quite understand, he explained them very clearly.

The third document. The fourth. The fifth.

For every single one, he explained it first, then pointed out where she needed to sign. It was not as Gu Fanglin had imagined, just a superficial gesture.

He thought that if Gu Yan were interested in the company, he would teach her personally.

From how to understand a financial report to how to judge the risks of a project. From how to manage a team to how to gain the upper hand at the negotiating table.

He had walked this path for over a decade; the pitfalls he had stepped into, the losses he had suffered, the games he had won—all that experience exchanged for time and money, he could give to her without reservation.

If she didn't want to learn, that was fine too.

He would continue to be her backing, blocking all trouble for her.

She only needed to stay in her own world and do what she liked.

Sunlight fell on his profile, outlining a soft contour. His voice was not loud when he spoke, and he would occasionally pause to ask if there was anything she didn't understand.

As Gu Yan signed, her wrist began to ache.

She shook her hand and continued signing.

After signing two more, she finally couldn't help but stop and shake her wrist.

"My hand is sore."

Shen Yanhui looked at her.

She frowned, shaking her hand with a look of grievance.

"You've only signed eight," he said.

Gu Yan glared at him: "Is eight not enough?"

Shen Yanhui immediately changed his tune, humoring her: "It is a bit much, shall we take a break?"

As soon as Gu Yan heard this, she threw down the pen, stood up, and reached out to him: "Hug."

Shen Yanhui chuckled, put down the documents, picked her up, and after sitting down in the office chair, placed her on his lap, letting her sit sideways.

Gu Yan reached inside his open suit jacket and touched his firm abdominal muscles.

Looking at documents and signing things was really not as fun as touching his abs.

Shen Yanhui did not stop her, letting her hands run wild.

Gu Yan had touched enough, so she tilted her head up and kissed his chin as a reward.

"Shen Yanhui, I've discovered that you work quite hard too."

"Hm?"

She counted on her fingers: "Look, you have to sign so many documents every day, read so many things, attend meetings, answer my calls, and accompany me for meals..."

Shen Yanhui held her hand, rubbing her fingertips. Her fingers were slender and long, fair and delicate; he liked them particularly.

When they held his, it could practically be the death of him.

He lowered his head and kissed her: "It's not hard work."

"Liar, my hand was sore after just signing eight, you sign so many every day, how could it not be hard work."

He continued to knead her fingertips with his thumb: "Then what should we do?"

Gu Yan thought for a moment and signaled for him to lower his head.

Shen Yanhui followed her lead, and the young girl whispered in his ear: "I'll dote on you more in the future."
