Chapter 135: Lipstick Stain
Su Jin came over to ask Gu Yan if she could sleep with her tonight.
In Jingzhou, there is a tradition that the day before the wedding, the bride must sleep with her sisters.
"I don't have a younger sister on my side," Su Jin said, holding her hand, her voice gentle and soft, "I was thinking of finding you to keep me company and talk."
Gu Yan's eyes lit up.
"Okay, okay!" She answered quickly, without a hint of hesitation.
Su Jin smiled: "Then it's settled."
Gu Yan stood up immediately and ran upstairs: "I'm going to pack my things!"
Ten minutes later, she came downstairs carrying a small suitcase, her steps light and quick.
Shen Yanhui stood in the living room, watching her impatient appearance, and raised an eyebrow as he asked: "So happy?"
Gu Yan nodded and waved at him: "You sleep by yourself tonight, I'm going to keep my sister-in-law company."
After saying this, she had already followed Su Jin outside.
Shen Yanhui stood where he was, watching her nimbly climb into the car without even looking back once.
The car started and drove out of the gate.
He curled the corners of his mouth and said softly: "Little heartless thing."
That night, Gu Yan and Su Jin lay on the bed together.
Only one bedside lamp was on in the bedroom, casting a warm yellow light over the two of them.
Su Jin lay on her side, looking at Gu Yan: "Yanyan."
"Hmm?"
"I'm a little nervous."
Gu Yan blinked: "Nervous about what?"
Su Jin thought for a moment and smiled: "I don't know, it's just... tomorrow I'm marrying Gu Chen, it feels like a dream."
Gu Yan looked at her, her heart feeling soft.
She turned over and also lay on her side, face-to-face with Su Jin: "Sister-in-law, Eldest Brother is so good to you, what are you nervous about?"
Su Jin curled the corners of her mouth: "It's precisely because he's too good that I'm nervous."
Gu Yan didn't quite understand, but she still thought about it earnestly.
"... I don't get it."
Su Jin laughed in spite of herself and explained softly: "It's just that I feel too happy, to the point that it feels unreal, and I'm afraid I'm dreaming."
Gu Yan frowned, and suddenly understood: "Sister-in-law, this is pre-wedding anxiety."
"There's such a saying?" Su Jin was stunned for a moment.
"Of course there is." Gu Yan said with a straight face, "The more you care, the more nervous you'll be. You're nervous because you care too much about Eldest Brother and are afraid of not doing something well enough."
Su Jin looked at her, a smile appearing in her eyes: "You have a whole set of theories, where did you learn them?"
Gu Yan blinked and said: "Shen Yanhui said it. He said that being nervous is because you care; people who don't care wouldn't be nervous."
Su Jin smiled: "Mr. Shen is quite good with words."
Gu Yan curled her lips: "Occasionally."
Most of the time, all that comes out of his mouth are various kinds of flirtatious nonsense, the kind that wouldn't pass censorship.
However...
When she gets married herself, will she also be this nervous and unable to sleep? Will she also feel like it's a dream?
As she thought about it, she suddenly paused.
Something's not right, what is she thinking about?
She is definitely not desperate to get married; she can't let Shen Yanhui off easy. Besides, he is the one marrying into the family, so the one who should be unable to sleep at night ought to be him...
Seeing her distracted, Su Jin asked: "What are you thinking about?"
Gu Yan came back to her senses and shook her head: "Nothing."
She shrank into the quilt, buried her face in it, and said in a muffled voice: "Sister-in-law, go to sleep, you have to be the most beautiful bride tomorrow."
"Alright, let's sleep." Su Jin was amused and turned off the light.
——
The next day, before the sky was fully bright, Gu Yan felt the mattress beside her move.
She opened her eyes groggily and saw that Su Jin had already sat up, preparing to get out of bed with light, careful movements.
"Sister-in-law?" Her voice still carried sleepiness.
Su Jin looked back and lowered her voice: "Did I wake you? Sleep a little longer, it's still early."
Gu Yan rubbed her eyes and looked at the gray sky outside the window.
"What time is it?"
"Just past five. The makeup artist will be here soon, I have to get up and prepare."
Gu Yan let out an "oh" and closed her eyes.
This getting married is too exhausting, having to get up so early. When she gets married, she must change this unreasonable process.
She hadn't been lying there for two seconds before she opened her eyes again.
She couldn't fall back asleep.
She simply sat up as well, wrapped in the quilt, and watched Su Jin wash up, change into a morning robe, and do her skincare.
By the time the makeup artist arrived, Gu Yan was completely awake. She sat cross-legged on the sofa, watching Su Jin get styled.
They say that the day of the wedding is the most beautiful day in a girl's life.
She didn't believe it at first, as her sister-in-law is already beautiful enough on a daily basis. But as the makeup artist applied makeup bit by bit, she couldn't help but be stunned by the woman in the mirror.
"Sister-in-law, you are so beautiful, even a Fairy isn't as pretty as you!"
Su Jin blushed at the compliment, the color showing through her fair skin, making her look even more lovely.
Gu Yan secretly thought her brother was quite lucky.
She got up from the sofa, preparing to tidy herself up as well. Although she was a supporting character, dressing herself up beautifully was a form of respect for others.
She applied light makeup and changed into a dress she had specially bought. Just as she finished changing, she heard a knock at the door.
She ran over to open the door and saw Gu Chen standing outside, with Shen Yanhui following behind him.
Gu Yan was stunned for a moment: "Why did you come together?"
Shen Yanhui's gaze lingered on her dress for a moment, then moved upward: "On the way."
Gu Yan blinked, and before she could say anything, Gu Chen had already walked past her into the room, his gaze landing on Su Jin.
In that instant, his entire aura softened.
Truly sappy.
Gu Yan couldn't bear to watch, so she turned to look at Shen Yanhui again.
The man was in a suit and leather shoes, wearing a white shirt with a champagne-colored tie at the collar.
Gu Yan looked down at her own champagne-colored dress, then looked up at him, and let out an "Oh."
Such a coincidence?
"Shen Yanhui, how did you know I would wear a dress of this color?"
Shen Yanhui: "We have a spiritual connection."
Gu Yan couldn't suppress the upward curve of her lips, but she still said haughtily: "Sweet talker."
Shen Yanhui reached out and put his arm around her waist: "Let's go."
"Eh?" She was already being led away by him, "Big brother, sister-in-law?"
"Let them have some time alone, don't be a third wheel."
Gu Yan: "?"
Her beautiful eyes were practically spitting fire as she glared at him: "You said I'm a third wheel?!"
"I am."
"That's more like it." Gu Yan was satisfied. As she spoke, she poked the man's chest: "If you dare to talk about your little Fairy like that again, I won't let you into the room!"
Her red lips were glossy and full, moving up and down, making one desire to harvest them.
Shen Yanhui never felt wronged; he lowered his head and kissed her chattering lips.
Gu Yan: "!"
Her lipstick!
Fortunately, the kiss was just a fleeting touch, but the young woman still took a step back, warning: "Don't you dare smudge my lipstick."
Shen Yanhui raised an eyebrow.
Don't dare?
He didn't like hearing that.
He took a step forward, and Gu Yan took a step back. He stepped forward again, and she retreated again. Until her back hit the corridor wall, with nowhere left to retreat.
He lowered his head and kissed her, no longer a light touch, but lips and teeth entwined, grinding and rubbing.
"Mmph... Shen Yanhui... don't..."
Without a chance to finish a single sentence, Gu Yan was pressed against the wall, kissed until her mind went blank.
Only one thought remained in her mind.
It's over, the lipstick is ruined.
She couldn't help but bite his lip, and the damn man felt the pain and finally let her go.
Gu Yan leaned against the wall, panting, and glared at him.
The lipstick on her lips had been kissed into a mess, the lip line blurred and the color mottled. Her dark eyes were bright, filled with annoyance.
Shen Yanhui raised his hand, his thumb brushing over the corner of her mouth, wiping away the bit of smudged lipstick.
"It won't smudge anymore now."
Gu Yan: "..."
It was all kissed off, so of course it wouldn't smudge.
She huffily fished a small filigree enamel mirror out of her bag, looked at herself in it, and let out a wail.
"Shen Yanhui! I spent half an hour applying that!"
Shen Yanhui didn't look much better himself; his shirt collar was stained in several places with the lipstick marks she had left while struggling, looking quite suggestive.
Gu Yan was both angry and amused: "Look at yourself."
Shen Yanhui looked down for a moment, his expression as usual: "Mm."
"Mm what mm? Are you going down like this?"
"Is there something wrong with that?"
Of course there was, she couldn't afford to lose face like that.
Gu Yan took a tissue out of her bag again and stood on tiptoe, wanting to help him wipe off those lipstick marks.
But he grabbed her hand: "No need to wipe, I'll just change into another one in a moment, I'll keep this one."
Why keep it? It went without saying.
Gu Yan: "You closet pervert!"
