Chapter 49: Marry Me
Shen Yunning's voice carried a smile, "I watched them grow up from a young age, I know them inside and out. That marriage engagement mentioned a few years ago, although not officially set, the elders have all kept it in mind..."
Gu Yan's fingers tightened unconsciously.
She gripped the bathrobe belt until it wrinkled.
Fang Qinru pulled her slightly, and the two walked quietly past the entrance of the tea room.
Not until they turned the corridor and entered the changing room did Gu Yan loosen her grip.
"Yan Yan," Fang Qinru called her softly.
"I'm fine," Gu Yan forced a smile, "Let's go change clothes first."
The changing room was very quiet.
Gu Yan stood in front of the wardrobe and slowly took off her bathrobe.
The more she thought about it, the more wrong it felt. Didn't Shen Yanhui say there were no other women? Was their relationship a lie to her?
He already had a marriage engagement, yet he still came to provoke her!
Was she, Gu Yan, someone easy to bully?
This anger, she couldn't endure it at all.
"Yan Yan," Fang Qinru walked over after changing her clothes and said gently, "Don't take those words too much to heart. In the circle of prominent families, the elders' thoughts don't necessarily count."
"I know. Sister Fang, I'm a bit tired, I want to go back and rest first." Gu Yan tried her best to look as if nothing had happened.
It was impossible not to take it to heart; she had never suffered such grievances from childhood to adulthood.
She was angry, her lips pursed. The driver didn't dare to speak the whole way, trembling as he sent her back.
Gu Yan pushed open the main door with a cold face.
Shen Yanhui was brewing tea. He looked up at the sound, and seeing her expression, his brows furrowed slightly.
She became even angrier; he actually had the leisure and elegance for this.
"What's wrong?"
Gu Yan ignored him and went straight upstairs.
"Gu Yan." Shen Yanhui put down his teacup and followed.
She walked into the bedroom and began to pack her clothes. She balled them up haphazardly and threw them into the suitcase.
"Where are you going?" Shen Yanhui's voice turned a few degrees colder.
"Home," Gu Yan didn't even lift her head, "So I don't get in the way of someone's good business here."
Her wrist was suddenly gripped.
The force was great.
"Speak clearly." Shen Yanhui turned her around, his gaze heavy.
"I. Am. Going. Home!"
Gu Yan said each word distinctly, decisively, and aggressively.
But looking closely, her eye sockets were red, and her eyes were veiled with a layer of moisture. She didn't look fierce at all, but rather pitiful.
Shen Yanhui felt the possessiveness he had been suppressing in his body surge up again, without warning.
He wanted to lock this disobedient little thing up.
So she wouldn't say things he didn't like to hear.
But...
He tried to soften his tone, suppressing his voice, "What happened? You have to tell me the reason."
But his cold-toned voice only made Gu Yan feel more aggrieved, and she struggled to pull her hand back.
Fearing she would actually hurt herself, Shen Yanhui had no choice but to let go.
The irritation in his heart came in waves, even worse than when he heard about the oil field explosion a few days ago.
Having gained her freedom, Gu Yan grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. It hit him softly and fell to the floor.
"You already have a marriage engagement, why did you come to provoke me?"
Shen Yanhui's eyes turned cold instantly: "Who told you that?"
"Does it matter who told me?" Gu Yan grabbed an art book from the coffee table and wanted to throw it, but he caught her wrist.
"Let go!"
"Speak clearly." Shen Yanhui gripped her tightly, his gaze pressing down heavily, "What marriage engagement?"
"Your sister said it herself!" Gu Yan couldn't break free and kicked his calf.
Tears finally rolled from her eyes.
Once they fell, the tears flowed like a broken dam, rustling down.
"What do you take me for? A toy for amusement—"
Her words were blocked by a suddenly encroaching kiss.
Shen Yanhui held the back of her neck, kissing her fiercely and urgently, with an irresistible force.
Gu Yan was pressed onto the bed by him, her hands pushing against his chest, but he caught her wrists with one hand and pinned them above her head.
"Mmph... let go..." She turned her head to dodge, her breathing rapid, "Shen Yanhui, you—"
"There is no marriage engagement, only you."
"You say it nicely, who knows if it's true?"
In the heat of the moment, she didn't want to hear any of his explanations.
Shen Yanhui had no choice because of her crying, and his voice softened, "Then how do you want me to prove it?"
Gu Yan turned her head away and didn't speak.
"Gu Yan, speak." He pinched her chin and forcibly turned her face back.
At this, Gu Yan cried even harder, "You're still snapping at me!"
Shen Yanhui irritably tugged at his tie and took a deep breath, "I don't know what exactly Shen Yunning said, but my marriage is not for them to interfere with."
He paused, his pair of pitch-black eyes tightly locking onto the person before him.
"If you don't believe me, marry me."
Gu Yan was suddenly stunned, tears still hanging on her eyelashes.
Shen Yanhui stood up, took out his phone, and dialed a number, "Chang Su, contact the Civil Affairs Bureau and bring the staff over; one hour."
"Shen... Shen Yanhui, you're joking, right?"
Gu Yan was so shocked she even forgot to be angry.
The development of the situation was bizarrely beyond her comprehension; weren't they arguing? How did it lead to getting married?
Although, it seemed that proving it this way was indeed the best method.
No, wait, how did she get talked into this?
The young girl's constantly changing expression successfully dissipated some of Shen Yanhui's irritability; he lowered his head, his nose brushing against hers, coaxing her.
"Gu Yan, do you dare?"
"I..."
Gu Yan looked into his eyes, deep as ink, which seemed to suck her reason in as well.
She said, "What do I not dare to do?"
One hour later.
The sound of helicopter rotor blades came from far to near.
Chang Su walked into the living room with two staff members, carrying portable equipment in their hands.
Gu Yan looked at this scene and suddenly lost her nerve.
"Um, my household registration book is with my parents."
The staff member smiled, "Nowadays, an ID card is all that is needed, Miss Gu."
Gu Yan: "..."
Shen Yanhui looked at her with a half-smile, having returned to being that Shen Family head who held everything in his grasp.
Gu Yan said again, "For someone like you... don't you need to do a prenuptial property notarization?"
Shen Yanhui was concise, "No need."
Chang Su added in a low voice, "For Sir's assets, it would take the legal team several months just to liquidate them; I'm afraid there isn't enough time."
Gu Yan was speechless.
Shen Yanhui: "Scared?"
Gu Yan could not be provoked, "Who's scared? Anyway, if we divorce, I'll take half your assets!"
"..."
When the little red book was handed into her hand, Gu Yan was completely dazed.
Just like that, they were married?
Just like that, she became a married young girl?
Before she could come back to her senses, the Marriage Certificate was snatched away by Shen Yanhui.
"I'll keep it safe." He tucked it into his suit's inner pocket.
Then he bent down and picked her up.
"What are you doing again—"
"The bridal chamber." Shen Yanhui carried her upstairs, his gaze dark and deep, "Wife."
Gu Yan's earlobes turned bright red in a flash.
"Yesterday we already... agreed on once every two days..."
"Today is different." Shen Yanhui kicked open the bedroom door, pressed her onto the bed, and kissed her collarbone, "Today is the bridal night."
He undid the first button of her collar, his voice low and hoarse:
"It's legal."
Gu Yan's breathing became ragged.
"Shen Yanhui... you bastard..."
