Chapter 14: Mom, You
Thinking about tonight’s race and seeing Wuwu Aunt in her cool outfit again, she felt happy once more.
After changing her clothes, Feng Jingxin picked up her phone and glanced at it.
Soon, she furrowed her tiny brows.
In the past, Wuwu Aunt always replied to her messages quickly.
But today, even after she finished washing up, Wuwu Aunt still hadn’t replied.
Could Wuwu Aunt be angry?
Thinking of this, she quickly sent a message to Lin Wu.
【Wuwu Aunt, what’s wrong? Are you angry?】
【Wuwu Aunt, you know I don’t want Mom to take me to school—you know I prefer you. Wuwu Aunt, please don’t be mad, okay?】
For a long while, Lin Wu didn’t reply.
Rong Ci finished packing and came over: “Xinxin? Are you ready? Time to go downstairs for breakfast.”
Not having received a reply from Lin Wu, Feng Jingxin was anxious; impatiently, she snapped at Rong Ci: “I know, Mom, can you stop talking so much? Don’t you know it’s annoying?”
After speaking, she angrily grabbed her backpack and went downstairs.
Rong Ci watched her go, following behind without saying anything.
But she noticed the clothes Feng Jingxin was wearing looked unfamiliar.
Her clothes had always been chosen by Rong Ci—though she’d consulted her opinion, and they matched her tastes.
But since Feng Jingxin went to Country A with Feng Tingshen, her sense of style changed.
It was said this was because she learned rock climbing and skateboarding from Lin Wu.
It was said Lin Wu wasn’t only an excellent student but also had many hobbies—she was an incredibly dazzling and charismatic new-generation woman.
She excelled at skateboarding, rock climbing, paragliding, and more.
Feng Jingxin idolized her so much that even her personal tastes changed.
Though Rong Ci had once felt sad that Feng Jingxin was so close to Lin Wu, since it was her preference, she never said anything more.
In fact, over the past two years, when buying clothes for her, she’d already chosen styles matching Feng Jingxin’s current tastes.
But Feng Jingxin had only glanced at these new clothes Rong Ci bought—and never worn any of them.
She wore only the clothes Lin Wu picked out for her.
Seeing what Feng Jingxin was wearing now, Rong Ci instantly guessed what had happened.
But she didn’t ask.
As if she hadn’t noticed, she walked downstairs calmly.
When they went downstairs, Feng Tinglin and the others hadn’t woken up yet.
But the grandmother was already awake.
“Xiao Ci and Xinxin are up so early?”
Rong Ci smiled: “Yes, Grandma, good morning.”
Feng Jingxin, in a bad mood, muttered: “Good morning, Grandma.”
Grandmother: “Is Xinxin unhappy? What happened?”
Feng Jingxin said nothing.
She didn’t want to speak.
The butler, having heard Rong Ci knock on Feng Jingxin’s door, chuckled: “Probably just woken up too early and is in a bad mood.”
The grandmother listened, smiled, then asked: “Where’s Tingshen? Hasn’t he woken up yet?”
Rong Ci’s expression remained calm: “Tingshen went out last night.”
The grandmother’s face darkened immediately.
She instantly guessed what had happened.
But seeing the child was still there, she didn’t want to scold Feng Tingshen in front of her, so she said nothing.
After breakfast, as they prepared to leave, Feng Jingxin realized she’d forgotten something and ran upstairs to get it.
Rong Ci waited downstairs.
At that moment, Feng Jingxin’s phone screen lit up.
Someone had sent her a message.
Rong Ci saw the note on the message alert: “Dear Wuwu Aunt.”
Rong Ci froze.
Though Feng Jingxin was still young, since getting her phone, Rong Ci had always respected her privacy.
She had never once peeked at her phone.
But when she saw the content Lin Wu had sent, she paused, then picked up the phone.
Only then did she understand why Feng Jingxin had been so irritable that morning.
She quickly scrolled through their chat history and found that Feng Jingxin sent Lin Wu a good morning message every day.
They chatted every day.
And for a long time.
Hearing the elevator sound, Rong Ci pretended she hadn’t seen anything and put the phone back exactly where it was.
Feng Jingxin took back her phone, opened it, and saw that Lin Wu had finally replied—saying she couldn’t stay mad at her, and hadn’t replied earlier because she’d just woken up.
After reading Lin Wu’s message, she immediately smiled brightly.
Rong Ci walked ahead, glancing back slightly, and knew exactly why she was happy.
Feng Jingxin was lost in joy and didn’t notice Rong Ci’s glance.
In the car, Feng Jingxin sat in the back and began messaging Lin Wu again.
Occasionally, she stole glances to see if Rong Ci was paying attention.
Seeing Rong Ci focused solely on driving, she relaxed.
But since the school was far away, after half an hour of chatting with Lin Wu, Feng Jingxin stopped.
Now her mood had improved, and she felt like talking to Rong Ci again.
“Mom, are you free this afternoon?”
Rong Ci didn’t turn around: “Why?”
Feng Jingxin didn’t say directly, instead pouting: “You tell me.”
“I’ve been busy lately, no time. Why?”
Feng Jingxin smiled happily: “It’s… nothing.”
Since Mom was busy this afternoon, she definitely wouldn’t come specially to pick her up after school.
That meant she could go straight to Wuwu Aunt after school without worrying about Mom finding out—awesome!
At school, Rong Ci took Feng Jingxin to chat with her homeroom teacher, then followed the teacher to her classroom.
As they reached the classroom door, a sweet little voice called out to Rong Ci: “Rong Jiejie!”
Rong Ci froze—suddenly, a tiny pink figure dashed into her arms.
Worried the child might fall, Rong Ci bent down and caught her.
When the child looked up, Rong Ci recognized her immediately: “Tiantian?”
The child was the neighbor’s little girl Rong Ci had saved a few days ago, just before she was nearly bitten by a dog.
“Mm!” Tiantian had two cute little braids, looked especially soft and adorable, and smiled sweetly—she seemed exceptionally well-behaved. Rong Ci instinctively softened her voice and smiled: “Tiantian goes to this school too—”
“Ah!”
Before Rong Ci could finish, Tiantian in her arms was shoved hard by Feng Jingxin.
Rong Ci quickly caught the falling child: “Tiantian, are you okay?”
Tiantian shook her head, tears welling up as she stared at Feng Jingxin, confused: “You… you can’t push people…”
When Feng Jingxin saw a child rush into Rong Ci’s arms, she hadn’t reacted at first—but seeing how familiar they seemed, and how Rong Ci still held her, her expression darkened.
Watching Tiantian about to cry from one little fall, she sneered: “So weak, so pink, so cute—it’s ugly and disgusting!”
