Chapter 15: Again, You Two Sneak Off to Eat Together Without Me

~7 min read 1,248 words

Tiantian is sweet-looking and adorable, and her costume suits her age—everyone who sees her can’t help but want to hug and kiss her.

She has nothing to do with ugly or disgusting.

She was raised being praised.

This was the first time anyone had said that to her.

Tiantian immediately burst into tears, wailing, and clung tighter to Rong Ci.

Rong Ci quickly held her and soothed her: “No, Tiantian, you’re not disgusting at all—you’re beautiful and adorable. Don’t you think so yourself?”

Hearing this, Tiantian’s mood improved slightly, but before she could speak, Feng Jingxin saw Rong Ci still holding Tiantian and praising her as beautiful and adorable—her eyes instantly filled with tears: “You… I don’t like you anymore, I don’t want you to be my mom!”

Saying this, she turned to run away.

Rong Ci quickly reached out and pulled her back.

Her hurtful words were something Rong Ci hadn’t expected.

Though angry, she didn’t want to scold her in public and embarrass her.

She held her and kissed her forehead: “Alright, don’t be mad for now…”

Feng Jingxin was furious, but seeing Rong Ci kiss her, her anger lessened half—and her hurt deepened. Suddenly she burst into tears and demanded more: “Then… you must never hug her again, or say she’s adorable!”

Only then did Rong Ci understand why she was upset.

She was jealous.

She didn’t want Rong Ci as her mom anymore, but seeing someone else take her attention, she couldn’t stand it.

Rong Ci found it a little amusing.

She didn’t agree, but kissed her to soothe her emotions, then stepped back with both children, moving away from the crowd.

Feng Jingxin seized the chance to push Tiantian out of Rong Ci’s arms.

Tiantian had a good temper; though she loved Rong Ci dearly, she didn’t have such strong possessiveness over her.

Besides, Feng Jingxin looked intimidating, and Tiantian was a little afraid of her.

Rong Ci held Feng Jingxin and spoke gently: “Xinxin, Mom knows you think you’re cool now, but everyone’s taste is different. You like your cool, handsome self, but others like cute, pink, sweet versions—and you can’t call someone disgusting or ugly just because their taste differs from yours. We should respect everyone’s preferences—do you understand what I’m saying?”

Rong Ci knew her daughter was exceptionally smart.

What she said might be beyond other children’s grasp, but Feng Jingxin would surely understand.

Feng Jingxin truly understood.

She knew what she’d said was wrong.

But she simply couldn’t bear seeing Rong Ci hug other children or treat them kindly.

She pressed her lips shut and said nothing.

Rong Ci rubbed her hair gently and pulled out a handkerchief to wipe her tears tenderly: “Making mistakes isn’t the end—it’s fixing them that matters. But you must never say things like that to others again, okay?”

Seeing Rong Ci still treat her so kindly, Feng Jingxin’s heart softened. She hugged her, leaned into her chest, sniffled, and nodded: “Okay.”

Rong Ci smiled and kissed her cheek, then turned to Tiantian: “Tiantian, this is Xinxin—my daughter. She already knows she was wrong. Will you forgive her?”

Tiantian was a little afraid of Feng Jingxin, but Rong Ci was so gentle, and she liked her very much—so she nodded obediently: “Yes, I forgive her.”

“Thank you, Tiantian.” Rong Ci smiled, then looked at her daughter: “Xinxin, what should you do now?”

Feng Jingxin lifted her head from Rong Ci’s arms: “Sorry.”

Tiantian smiled shyly: “It’s… it’s okay…”

The matter was finally resolved. Rong Ci sighed in relief and took the two children to the classroom.

The homeroom teacher took Tiantian away. Rong Ci knelt down and looked at her daughter gently: “Alright, it’s over now. Let’s go inside, okay?”

Feng Jingxin wouldn’t feel embarrassed or timid about entering the classroom after pushing someone and yelling in front of everyone.

She had never been a timid or fearful child.

She didn’t care what other kids thought of her.

Suddenly, she didn’t want Rong Ci to leave—she held on tightly: “Mom…”

“Mm?” Rong Ci hugged her back. “What is it?”

“I want—”

She hadn’t eaten Rong Ci’s cooking in a long time, and suddenly she missed it.

But the words stuck in her throat when she remembered she was going to watch Lin Wu’s match tonight.

Her eyes flickered, and she let go of Rong Ci: “Never mind.”

Rong Ci’s meals were always there whenever she wanted them—but Aunt Wu’s match wasn’t something that happened often.

Without hesitation, she chose Lin Wu.

“Alright, go inside quickly—don’t keep the teacher waiting too long.”

“Mm.”

Only then did Feng Jingxin reluctantly let go—but before entering the classroom, she turned back and said: “Mom, remember to call me at lunchtime.”

Rong Ci agreed: “Okay.”

Only then did Feng Jingxin feel reassured enough to enter the classroom.

Rong Ci watched her confidently step onto the stage to introduce herself, then sit quietly in her seat, before waving goodbye and leaving the school to head to Feng Corporation.

At the company, she didn’t see Feng Tingshen, but found Jiang Zhe leading someone to her desk.

“This is Xu Xuena. She’ll be taking over your position.”

Xu Xuena was stunningly beautiful, dressed in designer brands.

She sized up Rong Ci a few times, noting her clean, elegant beauty, and her eyes held a hint of scrutiny—but she didn’t show it, instead extending a warm hand: “Sister Rong, nice to meet you. I’m Xu Xuena. Please guide me in the coming days.”

Rong Ci shook her hand: “You’re too kind.”

“I graduated from T University this June with my master’s. Sister Rong, which school did you graduate from? You—”

Graduated this year?

So Xu Xuena might have no work experience at all, yet she’s replacing Rong Ci?

But this was just the usual case.

Perhaps Xu Xuena had her own exceptional qualities?

For instance, though there were many master’s graduates in the office, Rong Ci still became their team leader.

Thinking of this, Rong Ci gently interrupted Xu Xuena: “Miss Xu, there’s a meeting soon. Let’s discuss work first.”

Xu Xuena purred: “Oh my, I almost forgot the main thing—let’s talk about work first, let’s talk about work.”

On the way to the meeting, Xu Xuena lowered her voice: “Sister Rong, I heard Boss Feng is incredibly handsome—is that true?”

Rong Ci answered honestly: “Mm.”

Xu Xuena was thrilled: “Now that you say that, I’m even more eager to meet Boss Feng. Too bad Secretary Jiang said he won’t be coming to the company today…”

Feng Tingshen won’t be coming to the company today?

Rong Ci hadn’t known that.

But Feng Tingshen owns many personal ventures—he doesn’t come to Feng Corporation every day.

At noon, Xu Xuena dragged Rong Ci to the cafeteria. After getting their meals, Rong Ci picked up her phone to call Feng Jingxin.

Xu Xuena teased: “Calling your boyfriend?”

“No, I’m calling my daughter.”

“Your daughter? You’re married?”

“Mm.”

On the other end, Feng Jingxin was video-calling Lin Wu.

And Feng Tingshen was there too.

Feng Jingxin pouted at them: “You’re mean—you’re eating together without me again.”

“It’s because you’re in school, Xinxin. When you get out, Auntie will pick you up personally—we’ll all have dinner together tonight, okay?”

“That’s more like it.”

Feng Jingxin said this, then glanced at Feng Tingshen.

Feng Tingshen picked up a piece of food for Lin Wu and said: “What do you want for dinner? I’ll have someone prepare it in advance.”
