Chapter 16: Feng Tingshen Being Drawn to Her Makes Perfect Sense
Feng Jingxin felt a little happier and rushed to list all her favorite foods.
Feng Tingshen listened quietly beside her.
Lin Wu praised Feng Jingxin’s outfit: “Your clothes look so beautiful, they suit you perfectly.”
“Really?”
Lin Wu smiled: “Of course it’s true.”
She added: “How was your day at school? Did you get along well with the other kids?”
They chatted back and forth, enjoying themselves immensely; Feng Tingshen rarely interjected, merely using his knife and fork to eat slowly and deliberately.
The unsuspecting server watching them assumed they were a family of three, casting envious glances at Lin Wu.
At that moment, Feng Jingxin saw a video call from Rong Ci coming through.
She had requested the call that morning.
But now, chatting happily with Lin Wu, she didn’t want to hang up.
That morning, seeing Rong Ci hug another child, she had been upset.
But during class today, the teacher said parents love their own children most of all, and every child is unique in their mother’s heart—impossible for any other child to surpass.
That made her feel at ease.
Seeing Feng Jingxin didn’t answer, Rong Ci grew concerned and called the homeroom teacher.
The teacher was right there in the classroom’s rest area, and upon hearing Rong Ci’s reason for calling, laughed: “Jingxin is fine—she’s video chatting with her dad, and apparently some other lady… Let me go tell her—”
“No need to trouble yourself.”
Hearing this, Rong Ci realized Feng Jingxin was video chatting with Lin Wu and Feng Tingshen.
That meant Feng Tingshen was likely having dinner with Lin Wu right now.
She said gently: “It’s fine, let them talk. Don’t disturb them.”
After hanging up, Rong Ci sent Feng Jingxin a message asking how her day at school had been, whether she’d made any new friends, what she ate for lunch, and reminded her to listen to her teacher and sleep on time.
More than ten minutes passed before Rong Ci received a voice message from Feng Jingxin.
“Got it, Mom—I’ll sleep well.”
In the afternoon, after spending the whole day with Xu Xuena, Rong Ci found her cheerful, sociable, and highly capable at work.
At around six-thirty in the evening, as Rong Ci was about to leave for home, Xu Xuena came over and invited her to dinner to thank her for the day’s guidance.
“This is just part of my job, Secretary Xu, you don’t need to be so formal.”
Xu Xuena still tried to persuade her, when Rong Ci’s phone rang.
It was her mother-in-law, Sang Qian.
Rong Ci glanced at the screen and thought she’d misread it.
Sang Qian had always looked down on her as a daughter-in-law, usually ignoring her completely; over the years, Sang Qian had contacted her so rarely, Rong Ci could count the calls on one hand.
Rong Ci answered, puzzled: “Mom?”
“Tingyi has been secretly racing cars. I’m worried about him. I’ll send you the address—go get him and bring him home.”
Sang Qian said no more, gave the order, and hung up immediately.
A few seconds later, she sent Rong Ci an address.
Rong Ci checked it and saw it was a suburban racetrack.
She told Xu Xuena: “I’m sorry, I have an urgent matter—I have to go.”
Over an hour later, Rong Ci arrived at the destination.
The racetrack was large, and even at night, it was crowded and noisy; when she called Tingyi, he didn’t answer, so she had to search for him.
She searched for nearly twenty minutes before finding him.
When Feng Tingyi saw Rong Ci, he was stunned: “Sister-in-law? What are you doing here?”
Rong Ci explained her purpose.
Feng Tingyi raised his hand in oath: “Today, my goddess—Asia’s top female racer, CC—is racing in her first competition since returning home. I can’t miss it. I swear, I’ll leave right after the race, I won’t do anything reckless! So sister-in-law, just leave me alone and go home!”
“But—”
Before Rong Ci could finish, a crowd up ahead erupted in excited shouts of “CC!”
“My goddess is coming out?!”
Hearing the commotion, Feng Tingyi forgot Rong Ci entirely, joining the other spectators in shouting wildly and raising his binoculars to stare at the starting line.
Feng Tingyi’s face glowed with fanatical excitement; Rong Ci was surprised and asked: “When did you start liking racing?”
Though she hadn’t spent much time with Feng Tingyi, she knew he’d never cared for racing before.
“I used to have no interest in racing—until I met my goddess! Do you know how beautiful and stunning my goddess is? Wait till you see her, sister-in-law—you’ll understand why I love racing! And I’m sure you’ll be obsessed with her too! After all, my goddess is so perfect, no one could possibly not adore her!”
At that moment, CC officially appeared.
Feng Tingyi screamed and cheered again, completely forgetting Rong Ci’s presence.
Rong Ci hadn’t eaten dinner yet.
Seeing how wild and devoted he was to CC, and knowing he wouldn’t race himself and the crowd was too loud for her to reason with him, she decided to stay and watch the race before taking him home.
Soon after, Feng Tingyi handed her the binoculars, enthusiastically urging: “Sister-in-law, look! My goddess! Number 38! The one in the red racing suit! Super ultra sexy and wild!”
Rong Ci had no real interest in racing; forced to accept Feng Tingyi’s fanboy pitch, she was half-amused, half-exasperated—but still took the binoculars.
She raised them, glanced once—and froze.
Lin Wu.
CC was Lin Wu?
She’d heard people say Lin Wu excelled at extreme sports, but she never knew Lin Wu raced cars—and not just raced, but dominated, making so many young men and women adore her.
At this moment, Lin Wu wore a dark red tight racing suit, her figure tall and slender, curves full, sensual yet elegant, fierce and wild yet stunningly beautiful—so captivating, no one could look away.
Rong Ci shifted the lens slightly, accidentally glancing toward the opposite spectator stand—and saw Feng Tingshen.
He, too, seemed stunned by Lin Wu, his gaze fixed intently on her.
Rong Ci tightened her grip on the binoculars.
The race was about to begin.
Feng Tingyi impatiently snatched the binoculars back.
Rong Ci kept staring in Feng Tingshen’s direction.
Besides Feng Tingshen, their daughter Feng Jingxin and several of his closest friends were also there.
It went without saying—they’d all come here specifically to cheer for Lin Wu.
Several cars shot past in a blur, vanishing into the distance, triggering waves of screams.
Feng Tingyi peered through the binoculars for a moment, then shoved them back into Rong Ci’s hands: “Sister-in-law, look! My goddess is driving bold and steady—so cool! Look quick!!”
Rong Ci took them again, found Lin Wu—and moments later, Lin Wu took a daring, impossibly precise risk, overtaking at the curve’s limit.
The crowd was awestruck by her bold maneuver, gasps and exclamations rising in waves.
Rong Ci had never paid attention to racing before.
At this moment, she too was stunned by Lin Wu’s daring.
She stood motionless.
Suddenly, she understood: Feng Tingshen being drawn to her was entirely understandable.
