Chapter 62: Invitation Cards

~7 min read 1,254 words

At that moment, Feng Jingxin also saw Rong Ci walking out with a suitcase: “Mom?”

“Mm.” Rong Ci snapped back to herself, closed the door, and said, “Mom still has work to do, so I’m leaving first. You and your father stay here and enjoy yourselves.”

Feng Jingxin nodded quickly: “Okay, I understand, Mom.”

Rong Ci dragged her suitcase downstairs and ran into Feng Tingshen, who was with Lin Wu.

Seeing her with the suitcase, ready to leave, he simply asked, “Leaving?”

Rong Ci replied coldly, “Mm.”

“Did you call a car?”

“Yes.”

He didn’t try to stop her. “Alright.”

Rong Ci then took her suitcase, stepped out the door, and left in the car.

Qi Yuming woke up later than usual today.

When he came down to have lunch with Feng Tingshen and the others, he said to Feng Tingshen: “Tingshen, why don’t you go upstairs and invite her again?”

This “invite” naturally referred to Rong Ci.

Feng Tingshen replied coolly, “No need. She’s already left.”

Qi Yuming raised an eyebrow: “Left?”

He Zhangbai also paused.

“Mm,” Feng Tingshen said. “Her company has something urgent.”

Qi Yuming knew about Yu Moxun’s reversal on hiring Lin Wu, and about Rong Ci’s decision to join Changmo.

He hadn’t forgotten last night, when Feng Tingshen said Rong Ci wouldn’t come down for dinner because she had work to do.

Thinking of it, he smiled and said, “So… busy yesterday, busy today—this busy?”

Someone who didn’t know might think Changmo couldn’t function without her.

But Rong Ci got in through backdoor connections—first, she has little ability; second, she’s not even a major shareholder of Changmo. For her to say she’s busy? It’s clearly just an excuse.

She’s making excuses, and a terrible one at that…

Qi Yuming didn’t even know what to say.

Lin Wu also understood Qi Yuming’s implication. As she ate quietly, she smiled silently.

Rong Ci didn’t know what Qi Yuming and the others thought.

After leaving the hot spring villa, she went straight to Changmo.

She worked until dark.

After working nonstop for two days, Rong Ci was about to head home early and rest when her uncle Rong Changsheng called.

Half an hour later, Rong Ci returned to the Rong household.

Rong Changsheng and his wife, along with their two children, Rong Xun and Rong Yunhe, were all at home.

Seeing her return, they greeted her: “Cousin.”

Rong Ci smiled. “Mm.”

Rong Yunhe: “Where’s Jingxin? Didn’t you say she came back to the country? Why didn’t she come home for dinner?”

“She went to soak in the hot springs. She hasn’t returned yet.”

“Oh…”

Remembering that Feng Jingxin might have gone to the hot springs with Feng Tingshen, Rong Yunhe didn’t press further.

Before entering the house, Rong Ci paused when she saw the villa across the way.

When she went to the hot spring villa, she hadn’t thought to bring the keys to this villa.

If she had brought them, she could have started having the Sun family’s traces completely removed and then renovated…

Rong Changsheng and his wife were already preparing for Grandmother Rong’s birthday banquet. They called Rong Ci back not only to ask for her opinion, but also because they needed her to handle one thing.

“These two invitation cards are for the Feng family and Feng Tinglin. Xiao Ci, find time these few days to deliver them.”

Rong Ci hesitated slightly before taking them. “Alright.”

After dinner, she chatted with Grandmother Rong and Rong Changsheng until nearly nine at night, then prepared to leave.

Before she left, Grandmother Rong came out to see her off, holding her hand and saying, “If those people in the Feng family don’t want to come, don’t force them. Whether they show up or not, I, the old woman, don’t care!”

Although Rong Changsheng had lowered his voice and turned away when he gave her the invitations, she understood perfectly well.

Rong Ci said, “I’ll handle it.”

Grandmother Rong and Grandmother Feng were close friends.

Logically, Grandmother Feng should have come to Grandmother Rong’s birthday.

But Grandmother Feng is older than Grandmother Rong, and according to local custom, when an elder celebrates a birthday, relatives and friends older than the birthday person do not attend.

For the past few years, Grandmother Rong’s birthday had never been celebrated in a big way.

They’d simply had a family reunion dinner.

And in those years, Feng Tingshen had never once come to celebrate Grandmother Rong’s birthday.

At first, he’d made excuses, saying he had no time.

But Rong Ci knew that even when he had free time, even if he went out to play with friends, he wouldn’t come.

Still, every year, as her grandmother’s birthday approached, she would cling to a sliver of hope and ask him in advance if he had time, if he could accompany her back to the Rong household to celebrate with her grandmother.

Each time, she received only disappointment.

This year, she didn’t want to ask Feng Tingshen again.

But this year happened to be Grandmother Rong’s milestone birthday. Rong Changsheng had invited many business partners. Regardless of whether she and Feng Tingshen were officially divorced or not, given the friendship between the two grandmothers, the Feng family had to be invited.

Whether the Feng family came or not—that was their business.

Rong Ci had originally planned to return to her own residence tonight.

Thinking of it, she turned the steering wheel and went back to Feng Tingshen’s villa.

When she returned to the villa, she discovered that Feng Tingshen and Feng Jingxin hadn’t come back yet.

And Grandmother Feng, due to some matters, had returned to the old family estate for the past two days.

Rong Ci put down her bag and went into the bathroom.

Half an hour later, as she stepped out of the bathroom, she heard the sound of a car downstairs.

Without doubt, Feng Tingshen and the others had returned.

Rong Ci thought about it without emotion, sat down, and began blow-drying her hair.

Learning Rong Ci was home, Feng Jingxin ran upstairs first and threw herself into Rong Ci’s arms: “Mom, we’re back!”

She smelled strongly of Lin Wu’s perfume.

Rong Ci’s expression didn’t change. She “Mm”ed, turned off the hairdryer, and touched her daughter’s cheek. “Did you take a bath?”

Feng Jingxin shook her head. “Not yet.”

“It’s already past ten. Go to your room and bathe first. You have school tomorrow.”

As Rong Ci finished speaking, Feng Tingshen also returned to the bedroom.

Their gazes met directly.

Rong Ci glanced at him once, then coldly looked away. At that moment, Feng Jingxin tugged at her arm. “Mom, can you help me bathe?”

Rong Ci said, “Alright. Let me finish drying my hair first.”

“Okay!”

Feng Jingxin happily ran off to prepare her pajamas.

Feng Tingshen watched her, sat down on the other side, and spoke: “When did you get back?”

“Just now,” Rong Ci replied, not looking at him, continuing to blow-dry her hair.

Feng Tingshen didn’t press further. He rose and went to the walk-in closet to prepare for his bath.

But Rong Ci remembered the matter at hand. She turned off the hairdryer, and before he entered the bathroom, pulled one of the invitation cards from her bag and held it out to him. “My grandmother’s birthday is coming soon. This is the invitation for the Feng family.”

As she stepped closer to him, Rong Ci also noticed that his scent was heavily marked by Lin Wu’s perfume.
