Chapter 84: Waiting for Someone
After dinner, Rong Ci had just returned home when Yu Moxun called.
Upon learning why Nan Zhizhi wanted to see her, he said, “Ren Yi’an and Ji Huanying? I already know them.”
Then he added, “By the way, Ren Jifeng is actually Ren Yi’an’s son—huh, such a formidable father, yet his son’s eyes went blind so young.”
Rong Ci had never imagined Ren Jifeng was Ren Yi’an’s son.
But it didn’t concern her anyway.
On Tuesday, Xundu’s autonomous vehicle underwent its initial test; Rong Ci and Yu Moxun arrived early.
When they arrived, Ren Jifeng and Yao Xinbo were already there.
They glanced at them once, then looked away.
Yu Moxun had no interest in engaging him; he pulled Rong Ci aside to begin the testing.
Seeing all preliminary preparations were complete but the staff hadn’t started testing, Yu Moxun asked, “Why hasn’t it begun yet?”
Quan Zong: “General Feng will come personally to observe the test. We’ll start once he arrives.”
Yu Moxun: “...Oh.”
Yu Moxun suddenly remembered something and asked, “By the way, where’s Miss Lin today?”
Didn’t Lin Wu say she was coming to Xundu to improve herself?
How come she hasn’t shown up after just a few days?
Quan Zong chuckled, “Oh, Miss Lin said she wanted to improve herself, so General Feng said the fastest and best way is to lead her own team on a project. So last week, General Feng revived an old stalled project and had it reorganized. These past two days, Miss Lin—no, she’s now Director Lin—Director Lin has assembled a team and is currently in a meeting.”
Yu Moxun: “...”
He glanced at Rong Ci, who was Ditou taking notes on the earlier test data, showing no reaction to Quan Zong’s mention of Feng Tingshen forming a team for Lin Wu.
He sighed and patted her head.
Rong Ci swatted his hand away: “Don’t mess with me.”
Yu Moxun: “...”
Her tone was fine—she clearly didn’t care anymore.
He felt relieved.
At that moment, Feng Tingshen arrived.
With him came He Zhangbai and Qi Yuming.
He Zhangbai and Qi Yuming clearly hadn’t expected Rong Ci to be there.
Seeing her, both showed expressions of surprise.
Rong Ci showed no expression; she glanced once and looked away.
Feng Tingshen, however, politely came over to greet them: “Thank you all for your hard work.”
Quan Zong: “General Feng, can we start now...?”
“Wait a moment—wait for one more person.” Feng Tingshen checked his watch: “I’ll go upstairs to check. Please wait a moment.”
With that, he left.
Rong Ci hadn’t deliberately thought about it.
But she knew Feng Tingshen meant to wait for one more person—and that person was Lin Wu.
In other words, the official test couldn’t begin until Lin Wu finished her meeting.
Yu Moxun clearly realized this too; he gritted his teeth, barely holding back an oath.
Feng Tingshen and Lin Wu came downstairs soon after.
With them was Sun Liyao.
Sun Liyao wasn’t surprised to see Rong Ci.
Lin Wu had already informed her in advance.
Seeing Rong Ci—Feng Tingshen’s wife—forced to wait like a subordinate until her sister came down before work could resume, Sun Liyao’s gaze toward Rong Ci grew sharper with mockery and smugness.
Rong Ci didn’t bother wondering why Sun Liyao was dressed in a professional suit at Xundu.
She turned her gaze away, indifferent.
Lin Wu politely apologized: “Sorry to keep everyone waiting.”
Her apology was sincere—but when she spoke, she looked only at Ren Jifeng and Yu Moxun.
She didn’t even glance at Rong Ci.
Clearly, Rong Ci wasn’t included in her apology.
Ren Jifeng hadn’t been paying attention to Rong Ci anyway, so he didn’t notice the detail: “Just a few minutes—it’s fine.”
“How generous of you, Director Ren,” Yu Moxun said, standing up with a cool tone. “Since you’re here, let’s stop wasting time and get started.”
Feng Tingshen replied politely: “Our mistake, Director Yu. Please proceed.”
Yu Moxun snorted, grabbed Rong Ci’s hand, and walked out of the meeting room first.
Feng Tingshen noticed Yu Moxun’s intimate grip on Rong Ci—but immediately looked away, clearly unbothered.
He Zhangbai, however, glanced at the two of them twice.
In the group, Feng Tingshen and Lin Wu were the center of attention.
At the test track, the staff reported respectfully: “General Feng, Miss Lin, we’re ready.”
The tone made it clear they treated Lin Wu as the boss’s wife.
Feng Tingshen: “Begin.”
“Yes.”
They could clearly monitor the driver’s condition on screen.
After the test driver completed one round, the staff asked Feng Tingshen and Lin Wu if they’d like to experience it themselves.
Feng Tingshen agreed.
He and Lin Wu got into the same vehicle.
On the monitor, they could see the two chatting cheerfully.
When their eyes met, their gazes seemed to stretch like silk threads.
Rong Ci watched the monitor without looking away, her expression calm.
Yu Moxun, however, wore a look of disgust.
Qi Yuming also wanted to try; he was about to speak to He Zhangbai when Sun Liyao walked over: “Director He, we—”
He Zhangbai cut in: “You two go ahead. I’m not interested.”
Sun Liyao fell silent.
Over there, Quan Zong approached Yu Moxun and Rong Ci: “Director Yu, Miss Rong, would you like to try it?”
They knew the car’s condition better than most Xundu staff.
They’d originally wanted to test it—but now, they were too angry to care.
Yu Moxun snorted: “No.”
Rong Ci smiled and whispered in his ear about the car’s engine specs: “You’re sure you don’t want to try?”
Yu Moxun glared at her, then asked: “How do you know that?”
Rong Ci rubbed her nose: “I accidentally glanced at the data they brought over.”
Having a good memory had its advantages.
Yu Moxun’s mood improved: “Go over it with me when we get back.”
“Alright.”
Saying that, she pulled him into the car.
After the test, half an hour had passed.
Feng Tingshen said: “Thank you all for your hard work today—let’s have dinner together?”
Ren Jifeng: “Sure.”
Yu Moxun: “...”
He curled his lip, speaking coolly: “Sorry, we’re busy. Enjoy your meal—we have other matters to attend to.”
Feng Tingshen nodded: “Then perhaps another time.”
He turned to Quan Zong: “See Director Yu and Miss Rong off.”
Quan Zong hurriedly replied: “Yes.”
Miss Rong...
Yu Moxun curled his lip, silently scoffed, and walked out with Rong Ci first.
Yao Xinbo whispered to Ren Jifeng: “Why do I get the feeling Yu Moxun really dislikes General Feng and his group?”
Ren Jifeng had noticed this the last time they met.
He’d previously thought he was overthinking it, assuming Yu Moxun was just naturally aloof.
Now, he realized he hadn’t imagined it at all.
