Chapter 95

He Zhangbai actually knew the location of that cake shop.

After Rong Ci left, he didn’t go to that cake shop.

He got in the car, hesitated for a moment, then made a call: “Yu Ming, I’m back. I’ll be catching a flight later—could you check if Ting Shen is free? If he’s not, could you accompany me to the hospital to see Lin Wu?”

Qi Yuming was astonished: “You actually came back? When did you get back?”

He Zhangbai didn’t answer his question: “First, call Lin Wu and see if she’s available later.”

Qi Yuming was about to ask why He Zhangbai didn’t call Feng Tingshen or Lin Wu himself.

Then he thought better of it—he assumed He Zhangbai must have other urgent matters to handle, and since he himself hadn’t visited Lin Wu yet today, he readily agreed.

Feng Tingshen was unavailable.

After hanging up, He Zhangbai bought a bouquet of flowers and a fruit basket, then headed to the hospital to meet Qi Yuming.

In the hospital room.

Seeing him, Lin Wu smiled and asked: “Why did you suddenly come back?”

He Zhangbai replied coolly: “I came back to handle some matters.”

Lin Wu lowered her head, stroking the flowers he had just sent, and said: “I see…”

Was he truly back to handle matters—or had he come all this way just to see her?

Although he didn’t return immediately after her injury, the fact that he made time to come back as soon as he could showed genuine care.

That night, Rong Ci stayed at her Rong family home.

The next day, she woke up early.

Looking at the well-cared-for succulents on the windowsill, Rong Ci stretched lazily, feeling cheerful.

When she went downstairs, her aunt-in-law was already awake, preparing breakfast for her and the two children by hand.

Seeing her, the aunt-in-law smiled: “Rong Ci, you’re in a good mood today?”

Rong Ci went over to help knead the dough and smiled: “Yeah, I’m feeling pretty good.”

A steaming bowl of soup noodles was ready; Rong Ci sat down to eat when her phone rang.

It was Feng Jingxin again.

Rong Ci didn’t answer.

Feng Jingxin called again.

Rong Ci turned off her phone and focused on eating her noodles.

Watching the call go through but fail to connect, Feng Jingxin pouted and ran to the master bedroom to find Feng Tingshen.

Feng Tingshen had just finished running and was about to change into fresh clothes for a shower; seeing her pouting, he asked: “What’s wrong?”

“I called Mom yesterday, wanting her to come home and cook for me, but she never answered. Just now I called twice more—still no answer. When I tried a third time, it said the number was unreachable.”

Feng Tingshen said: “Your mother might have turned her phone off.”

“Huh?” Feng Jingxin frowned: “Did her battery die?”

Feng Tingshen didn’t confirm or deny it: “Maybe.”

“What should I do? I wanted to go skiing today—Mom promised she’d take me when she had time.”

Originally, with Lin Wu injured, she hadn’t felt like playing and wanted to go to the hospital to keep her company.

But hospitals are full of germs, and no one lets her go often; besides, Lin Wu’s doing much better now, so she’s less worried. With free time and no one to play with, she figured she’d ask Mom to take her out.

Who knew her calls kept going unanswered.

“Call again later. Your mother will probably turn her phone back on soon.”

Feng Jingxin grumbled: “Fine…”

Rong Ci couldn’t possibly have left her phone off.

After all, she still had things to discuss with Yu Moxun.

Pei Xuchen might also contact her later.

After more than half an hour, she turned her phone back on.

Soon after, Feng Jingxin called again.

Rong Ci opened her laptop but ignored the call, continuing to write her thesis.

Seeing Rong Ci still wouldn’t answer, and knowing Feng Tingshen was about to leave, Feng Jingxin said: “Dad, Mom still won’t answer—can you call her for me?”

Feng Tingshen said nothing; he used his own phone to call Rong Ci.

Rong Ci saw the call and hung up.

Feng Tingshen watched, paused, then said: “Your mother didn’t answer my call either.”

“Is she busy and didn’t see it?”

Otherwise, Mom would never ignore Dad’s call.

“Maybe,” Feng Tingshen said, pulling on his suit jacket and grabbing a black overcoat: “I’m leaving. If you want to go out, ask the bodyguards to take you.”

“But I want Mom to come with me…”

Though she didn’t like Mom controlling her, she sometimes still wanted her company.

She hugged her face and asked: “Dad, are you going to the hospital to see Lin Wu or back to the company?”

“Hospital first, then the company,” Feng Tingshen tapped her forehead lightly: “Go on, have fun by yourself.”

Feng Jingxin: “...Okay.”

She called Rong Ci two more times—still no answer.

She had no choice but to let the bodyguards and Liu Shen take her out.

But without the people she loved to accompany her, even skiing felt dull; she returned home soon, sullen and quiet.

After leaving the hospital, Feng Tingshen returned to Feng Corporation.

Shortly after his arrival, Qi Yuming came by.

Feng Tingshen glanced at him; Qi Yuming smiled: “Came to watch the drama.”

Before Feng Tingshen could respond, Cheng Yuan came over and said: “Attorney Pei has arrived.”

Feng Tingshen said: “Show him in.”

Under Cheng Yuan’s guidance, Pei Xuchen entered the reception room where Feng Tingshen met guests.

Feng Tingshen shook his hand: “Please sit.”

Pei Xuchen wasted no time; he sat down and placed the divorce agreement signed by Rong Ci the previous day on the table before Feng Tingshen.

Feng Tingshen took it.

It was the weekend; Qi Yuming had come specifically to find out whether Rong Ci had truly signed.

Seeing it, he leaned in.

Seeing Rong Ci’s actual signature, he exclaimed: “She really signed?”

Feng Tingshen glanced at Rong Ci’s signature but gave no reaction; he began speaking with Pei Xuchen.

After they finished talking, he said: “The property, shares, and other assets listed in the agreement are too numerous—I’ll need time to handle the necessary changes. I’ll contact you again once all procedures are complete.”

Pei Xuchen: “Understood.”

Feng Tingshen told Cheng Yuan: “Cheng Yuan, see Attorney Pei out.”

After leaving Feng Corporation, Pei Xuchen contacted Rong Ci and informed her of the outcome.

She frowned: “How long will it take to finalize?”

“That depends on Mr. Feng’s progress.”

“I see,” Rong Ci said. “Thank you, Attorney Pei.”

The next day, she went to work at Changmo as usual.

In the afternoon, while discussing matters with Yu Moxun at the office, his phone suddenly rang.

Yu Moxun frowned at the caller ID.

Rong Ci asked: “What’s wrong?”

He handed her the phone: “It’s Ren Ji’s call.”

They were all in the same circle; though they had little interaction, they each had each other’s numbers.

Since their last meeting at Xundu, he felt there was no reason to maintain contact with Ren Ji.

Why had he suddenly called now?

Yu Moxun was puzzled but answered anyway.

After a moment, he hung up and told Rong Ci: “He wants to collaborate on a new project.”

The two projects led by Rong Ci had drawn strong attention from their professor; they’ve already confirmed close cooperation with the government.

With such promising prospects, once the news breaks, Changmo’s doors will be flooded with potential partners.

Yet before the news even spread, Ren Ji had already come knocking.

Yu Moxun sneered: “Ren Yi is truly an old fox.”
