Chapter 1105: I Am Very Curious
The footsteps of the War Hounds warriors echoed in the empty riverbed; the night-vision mode of their helmets turned the darkness into a world of green light, and motion sensors scanned every corner, searching for possible ambushes.
Angron walked at the very front, his perception sharper than any instrument.
"Two hundred meters ahead, there is a life signal."
Randall reported suddenly.
"Three of them, hiding in a recess in the rock wall. Likely scout sentinels."
"Eliminate them, silently."
Angron ordered.
Randall and two War Dog Space Marines moved out rapidly.
The advanced noise-cancellation systems of the Power Armor allowed these half-ton Super Soldiers to move with almost no sound.
Thirty seconds later, a communication came through.
"Targets eliminated. Confirmed as Fenongqiu scouts, equipped with light sensors and communication devices. Equipment destroyed, bodies hidden."
"Continue forward."
The squad continued to advance along the riverbed.
At the second tributary, the group discovered a circular tunnel three meters in diameter with smooth rock walls, clearly excavated by a laser drill.
The tunnel sloped upward, leading toward the direction of the Energy Hub.
Randall reported.
"There are monitoring sensors inside the passage. One every fifty meters, full coverage. Impossible to bypass."
"Then move through quickly. All units, charge at full speed. The monitoring will have records, but by the time they react, we will already be inside the hub."
The Primarch and the Space Marines covered several meters with every stride, their footsteps deliberately kept to a minimum.
The monitoring sensors captured anomalies: blurred shadows, faint vibrations.
But the system's reaction time required 0.3 seconds, and during this time, the intruders had already passed through the monitored area.
The alarm finally sounded, but it was already too late.
"Intruders detected! Underground maintenance passage! Location: Tunnel B-7, moving toward the hub core!"
Inside the control center of Energy Hub Alpha-7, the sound of the alarm shattered the calm.
Woluoke stood up from the command chair, his three eyes opening simultaneously.
"How many? What equipment?"
"Sensors show... eleven targets, moving at extreme speed, almost exceeding the sensor tracking limit. Energy signature... one is particularly powerful, matching the... Primarch signal in the database."
Woluoke's heart sank.
The Primarch leading a team to assault from underground in person? This was completely beyond his expectations.
According to all tactical simulations, the Star Alliance should have attacked from the air like they did against K-77, or attempted to break the shields with orbital bombardment.
"Mobilize all underground guards! Seal all passages leading to the core area!
Activate automatic defense systems! Notify ground troops, there may be more enemy forces approaching!"
The orders were executed rapidly, but Woluoke knew it might already be too late.
If it truly was Angron leading the team himself, conventional guards would be unable to stop them at all.
Woluoke looked at the twenty Praetorians inside the control center; these were his personal bodyguards, equipped with weapons specifically designed to counter transcendent beings.
"Prepare for battle. We may not be able to stop them from entering, but we must at least make them pay a price."
Angron's squad rushed out of the end of the tunnel and into a spacious maintenance hall.
This was the third underground level of the Energy Hub, filled with thick pipes, humming machines, and flickering control panels.
And in the hall, fifty Fenongqiu guards were already waiting.
"Enemies!"
The guard Captain shouted.
"Fire!"
Blue beams, red plasma clusters, and the roar of kinetic weapons—all firepower was poured toward the War Hounds who had just rushed out.
Angron did not even stop his pace, raising the Chainaxe in his hand.
When the first wave of attacks approached, Angron struck his two Chainaxes together, and a wave of energy expanded in a fan shape.
Of the fifty guards, twenty were slammed into walls or machines, flesh and bone torn apart.
The remaining thirty barely managed to stand steady, but their formation was already in chaos.
Randall was the first to charge into the enemy ranks.
The Chainaxe roared, cleaving a guard, armor and all, in two with a single swing.
Bolters fired at close range, each shot precisely hitting a head or heart.
Fenongqiu led a three-man team to flank from the side.
Shooting, moving, and shooting again; every shot ensured a kill, and every movement avoided the enemy's line of fire.
Angron advanced in a straight line; any guard who tried to block him, whether by parrying with an energy shield or attempting melee combat, was reduced to mangled chunks of flesh under his Chainaxe.
The battle lasted seventeen seconds.
Fifty guards, all killed in action.
On the War Hounds' side, only two had their Power Armor grazed by energy weapons, leaving scorch marks.
"Clearance complete."
Randall reported, his Chainaxe still dripping with blood.
"The passage to the core area is over there."
The squad rushed toward the passage.
That was the spiral staircase surrounding the core of the Energy Hub; its width only allowed two people to walk side-by-side, spacious for ordinary people, but barely passable for Space Marines.
Two levels, three levels, four levels...
On the fifth-level platform, they encountered the second wave of guards.
This time there were only twenty, but they were better equipped, occupied advantageous positions, and blocked the stairs with heavy firepower.
Angron leaped directly from the edge of the stairs, grabbed the railing of the level above, exerted force with both arms, and vaulted over the entire flight of stairs, landing behind the guards.
The guards had not even reacted before the chainaxe swept across.
Five people had their heads sliced off directly, and the heads tumbled down the stairwell along the railing.
The remaining guards tried to turn around, but the War Hounds Space Marines had already charged up from below, attacking from the front and rear.
In a matter of seconds, all the guards fell.
There were two Automatic Cannons on both sides of the gate to the control center, and at this moment, they were rotating their muzzles to aim at the intruders who had just appeared.
Angron did not even look at the cannons.
He simply walked forward.
The cannons opened fire.
Energy beams shot toward him, striking his God of War Armor and leaving a scorch mark.
Then, Angron approached rapidly, raised his chainaxe, and swung it down quickly.
The two Automatic Cannons were sliced into two halves.
Then he kicked the alloy gate, and a massive crashing sound rang out.
The entire wall was trembling. The door frame deformed, the alloy twisted, and the fixing bolts were ripped out of the wall.
With the second kick, the door frame completely detached from the wall, and the entire gate collapsed inward, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Angron stepped over the collapsed gate and walked into the control center.
Inside, Woluoke stood before the central Control Console, with twenty Imperial Guards by his side.
The other technical personnel in the control center had already evacuated or were hiding behind cover.
"Angron."
Woluoke's three eyes stared at Angron, and he spoke.
"I didn't expect you to come from underground."
"The most direct path is often overlooked."
Angron said, his gaze sweeping across the entire room.
"Lower the shields and surrender. This is your last chance."
Woluoke shook his head.
"The same choice as Tailakesi? No. I know you will not accept the surrender of Commander Fengqi. And... I am curious, just how strong is the legendary Primarch."
Woluoke made a gesture.
The twenty Imperial Guards acted simultaneously.
Ten men charged at Angron, attempting to engage him in close combat.
The other ten engaged the War Hounds warriors, clearly having been specifically trained to counter Space Marines.
Facing the ten charging Imperial Guards, the chainaxe in Angron's hand felt as if it had no weight, emitting a shrill scream that tore through the air as it danced.
With the first strike, three Imperial Guards were simultaneously sliced in half.
With the second strike, the axe handle slammed into the ground, and the gravitational shockwave caused the remaining seven to all stagger.
Two men lunged from the side, using specialized energy blades to stab at the joints of Angron's armor.
The other three attracted his attention from the front.
Angron did not parry.
He let the energy blades strike his armor, where they were blocked by the internal composite armor plates, leaving only shallow scratches.
Then Angron swung his left-hand chainaxe to cut down an Imperial Guard.
His left hand immediately grabbed an Imperial Guard's helmet, his five fingers tightening.
The alloy helmet deformed and cracked under the terrifying strength, and the skull inside was crushed along with it.
His right-hand chainaxe swept horizontally, slicing two other Imperial Guards in half at the waist.
The remaining three Imperial Guards retreated, fear appearing in their eyes for the first time.
At the same time, the battle between the War Hounds warriors and the other ten Imperial Guards was also nearing its end. Although the Imperial Guards were well-trained and well-equipped, they were still at a disadvantage against the Space Marines.
Thirty seconds later, all twenty Imperial Guards had fallen.
