Chapter 1280: Guilliman Comes Home

~6 min read 1,170 words

Guilliman shook his head.

"It's too cold. How would the people living here feel every day when they come home and see 'Eastern District No. 3 Residential Building'?"

Perturabo fell into Silence.

Guilliman continued.

"A name is not just an identifier. A name is warmth. A good name can make the people living here feel that this is a home, not a cold building."

"Then what would you call it?"

Guilliman thought for a moment.

"How about 'Xiwang Zhijia'? What do you think?"

Perturabo's brows furrowed slightly.

"Too straightforward. It sounds like the name of an Orphanage."

Guilliman laughed.

"Then you come up with one yourself."

Perturabo looked at the building and remained in Silence for a long time.

Then he said.

"Call it 'Dawn Building'."

Guilliman asked.

"Why?"

Perturabo said.

"Because the morning sunlight hits the east wall of this building first every day. The people living here will be able to see the sunlight every time they wake up."

His voice was very low, as if he were talking to himself.

Guilliman looked at him.

"Good name."

"I just made it up. If you don't think it's good, you can change it."

Guilliman shook his head.

"I won't change it. It stays Dawn Building."

Perturabo did not speak again.

But Guilliman saw the corners of his mouth lift slightly for an instant.

Very brief, so brief it was almost invisible.

The sky gradually darkened, and the streetlights turned on.

Perturabo checked the time.

"Time to go back. There are things to do tomorrow."

Guilliman nodded.

"I'll walk you."

Perturabo glanced at him.

"No need. I'm not a child."

Guilliman laughed.

"I know. But I'm heading that way."

Perturabo did not refuse.

The two walked side by side on the new road in the East District, the streetlights stretching their shadows long.

"Perturabo."

"Hm."

"When will you start on those planets?"

"After I finish the work here in the East District."

"How much longer for the East District?"

"Three months."

Guilliman nodded.

"Good. In three months, I'll help you contact the administrators of those planets."

Perturabo did not speak.

As they neared the city center, he suddenly stopped.

"Guilliman."

Guilliman stopped as well.

"What is it?"

Perturabo looked at him, his expression complex.

"Those planets you mentioned earlier, their infrastructure is almost zero?"

Guilliman nodded.

"Yes. The immigrants will have to start from scratch."

Perturabo was in Silence for a few seconds.

Then he said.

"Three months is too long. I'll have them increase the manpower here in the East District. Let's say two months."

"Good. Two months."

Perturabo turned and walked toward his workshop.

After a few steps, he stopped again.

"Guilliman."

"Hm?"

"Prepare a copy of the environmental data for those planets for me."

"Alright."

Perturabo said nothing more, turned, and vanished into the night.

Xiuluo Holy Star, Primarch Residential Area.

Guilliman pushed open the door to the residence and heard a wail coming from the living room.

"I'm not playing! I'm not playing! What kind of lousy game is this!"

That was Yingxin's voice.

The corners of Guilliman's mouth lifted slightly as he walked toward the living room.

He saw Yingxin sitting cross-legged in front of the chessboard, her two small hands clutching her hair, her little face scrunched up, looking just like a kitten with its fur standing on end.

On the board in front of her, the black and red pieces were locked in a fierce struggle, but anyone with a discerning eye could see that the black pieces had been thoroughly routed by the red, with almost no possibility of a comeback.

Magnus sat upright across from her, his red hair particularly striking under the light, a book in his hand.

His expression was calm, a faint, almost imperceptible smile at the corners of his mouth, clearly at ease.

"Checkmate."

Magnus's voice was calm.

Yingxin looked down, and her face scrunched up even more.

"You, you, you, how did you put me in check again! Didn't you just do that a moment ago!"

Magnus turned a page of his book, his tone unhurried.

"That was 'check,' this is 'checkmate.' They are different."

Yingxin glared at him, pouting.

"How is that different!"

"You could run before, but now you can't."

Yingxin looked down at the board, staring hard, her eyes almost popping out.

Finally, she recognized the reality.

"I'm not playing!"

She pushed the pieces away.

"Brother Magnus, you're a bully! You win every time and never let me win!"

Magnus finally put down his book and looked at her earnestly.

"Not letting you win at chess is respecting your opponent. Letting you win would be bullying you."

Yingxin was stunned for a moment.

"Why?"

"Because to win, one must win fair and square; to lose, one must lose with grace. Winning because someone let you isn't a true skill."

Yingxin tilted her head and thought about it; it seemed to make sense, but she felt something was still wrong.

An elegant voice came from the side.

"Magnus, what you say is reasonable. But isn't it a bit too early to talk to the little sister about 'losing with grace'?"

Fulgrim sat on a sofa to the side, his long silver hair neatly tied behind his head, wearing a simple, pale purple robe.

He held a cup of tea in his hand, his gaze resting gently on Yingxin.

Magnus glanced at him.

"Not too early. She is smarter than you think."

Hearing this, Yingxin immediately puffed out her small chest.

"That's right! I am very smart!"

The corners of Fulgrim's mouth lifted.

"Yes, you are the smartest. So, smart little princess, do you want to play another game?"

Yingxin looked at the chessboard, then at Magnus, and decisively shook her head.

"I'm not playing. I want to wait for Brother Guilliman to come back."

As soon as she finished speaking, she turned her head and happened to see Guilliman standing at the entrance of the living room.

"Brother Guilliman!"

Yingxin's eyes lit up instantly, and she sprang up from the floor, pouncing toward Guilliman.

Guilliman crouched down and caught her steadily.

"Brother Guilliman! You're finally back! You were gone for such a long, long time!"

Guilliman smiled and picked her up.

"A long time? I was only gone for three months."

"Three months is a long time! You count it, how many days are in three months?"

Guilliman thought about it seriously.

"About ninety days?"

"Ninety days is a very, very long time! When you weren't here, no one would play chess with me."

Guilliman glanced at the chessboard.

"Didn't Magnus play with you already?"

Yingxin wrinkled her little nose.

"He wins every time! He never lets me win! It's more fun playing with you; at least you pretend to let me win."

Magnus coughed from the side.

"Not letting someone win at chess is a form of respect."

Yingxin turned her head and made a face at him.

"Bleh!"

Fulgrim laughed out loud.

A burst of laughter rang out in the living room.
