Chapter 1340: Chengjia Star, a Planet of Human Civilization

~6 min read 1,124 words

The planet at the very forefront of the Octavia Sector, Chengjia Star.

This is a planet of Human Civilization, within the territory of the Canaan Star Alliance, a lone island of humanity suspended in an ocean of Aliens.

But at this moment, Chengjia Star has become the front line for the Canaan Star Alliance against the Zerg.

The Governor of Chengjia Star is named Lucas.

His eyes are full of exhaustion, but his spine remains straight.

He stands before the window of the Command Center, looking at the busy city outside.

"Governor, a message has arrived from the Canaan Star Alliance."

The Adjutant walks in and reports at attention.

"The fleet of the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance is on its way. They want us to prepare our defenses."

Lucas's brows knit slightly.

"Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance? A Human star alliance?"

The Adjutant nods.

"Yes, they are Human."

"They are coming to help us?"

The Adjutant says.

"Coming to help the Canaanites fight the Zerg, but our planet is on their flight path; if the Zerg want to attack the Octavia Sector, they must pass through here."

Lucas's fists clench.

"So, we have become the foremost defensive line."

The Adjutant lowers his head.

"Yes."

Lucas turns to face the Adjutant.

"Notify all troops to take their positions. Notify all civilians to evacuate into underground bunkers. Tell the soldiers that behind them is our home; if they retreat one step, the Zerg will Devour everything."

The Adjutant stands at attention and salutes.

"Yes, Governor!"

Canaan Star Alliance Capital Star, Supreme Council Chamber.

Speaker Viridius sits before the conference table, with the battle report sent by Dakai Shimo before him.

The Aelius Sector has fallen, and over five billion people have been Devoured.

The remnants of Dakai Shimo are retreating toward the Octavia Sector, but the Zerg's pursuit speed is high; they are expected to reach the edge of the Octavia Sector within three days.

There is dead silence in the Meeting Room.

Morax speaks up.

"Speaker, when will the fleet of the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance arrive?"

Viridius says.

"The first batch of the fleet is already on the way: the Dusk Raiders Legion, the Cadian Shock Troops, and the Death Korps of Krieg, with a total force of about 1.65 million, led by Mortarion."

Tailesi asks.

"Only 1.65 million? The number of Zerg is thousands of times theirs."

Viridius looks at him.

"That is the first batch; the second batch is already assembling: the Salamanders Legion, led by Vulkan, along with more Astra Militarum troops."

"I hope they make it in time."

Viridius stands up.

"Notify General Weisi of the Octavia Sector to cooperate fully with the fleet of the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance. Provide them with all necessary supplies and support."

Morax nods.

"Yes, Speaker."

Tailesi says.

"Speaker, the humans on Chengjia Star are willing to cooperate with us. Their Governor, Lucas, says that holding the defensive line is the priority. Other matters can be discussed after the war."

Viridius nods.

"Good, tell them that after the war, the Canaan Star Alliance will not forget their contribution."

"Speaker, the fleet of the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance does not agree with the defensive line we provided; they insist on heading to Chengjia Star."

Viridius says in surprise.

"What? They are going to Chengjia Star? That is not within the scope of our defensive line."

"Their Primarch Mortarion says that it is a planet of Human Civilization, and the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance will not abandon their kin. He said they can go themselves and do not need us to add to the chaos."

"However, we should still send some fleets; otherwise, it will seem like we are being ungracious."

Viridius nods.

"Hmm, let us do that."

Edge of the Aelius Sector, the remnants of Dakai Shimo are retreating toward the Octavia Sector.

His fleet has only fifteen Capital Ships and thirty Auxiliary Ships left.

The soldiers have been reduced from two hundred million to less than twenty million.

The wounded are packed into every corner of every ship, and wails and groans fill the cabins.

Dakai Shimo stands before the observation window of the Bridge, looking at the burning starry sky outside.

"General, a message has arrived from the rear. General Weisi of the Octavia Sector has opened a path for us. We can enter their sector directly."

The Adjutant reports.

Dakai Shimo nodded.

"Notify all ships, full speed ahead. Do not stop."

The Adjutant asked.

"General, the Zerg are still pursuing us. If they follow us into the Octavia Sector..."

Dakai Shimo looked at him.

"The Octavia Sector has defenses, a fleet, and reinforcements from the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance. Fighting there is better than fighting here."

The Adjutant nodded and turned to relay the order.

Dakai Shimo turned around and looked at the weary officers.

"Brothers, we have held for forty days. Now, it is time to withdraw, return to replenish ammunition, rest, and then, we will fight our way back."

The officers answered in unison.

"Yes, General!"

Octavia Sector, Capital Star Octavia.

In the city, panic was spreading.

The streets were crowded with people.

They were all refugees who had fled back from other planets.

Their two eyes, four eyes, and compound eyes were filled with fear; they clutched their meager belongings, standing blankly on the street corners, not knowing where to go.

"Have you heard? The Aelius Sector has fallen."

A Canaanite whispered.

The Feilin beside him nodded.

"I heard. The Zerg are coming this way."

The Canaanite's voice was trembling.

"Then what are we to do?"

The Feilin shook his head.

"I don't know. It seems the fleet of the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance has come to support us."

The Canaanite asked.

"The Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance? Will they really come?"

The Feilin said.

"I heard they have already arrived: the Dusk Raiders Legion, the Cadian Blitz Army, and the Death Korps of Krieg. And more are on the way."

A glimmer of hope flashed in the Canaanite's eyes.

"Can they win?"

The Feilin looked at him.

"I don't know. But at least, someone is fighting."

On the other side of the city, a Sota was setting up a stall to sell goods.

His four arms were busy constantly, handing items one by one to customers.

"Selling cheap! Selling cheap! We are withdrawing tomorrow, can't take it all with us!"

A Lizardman walked over, his four eyes filled with exhaustion.

"Withdraw? Withdraw to where?"

The Sota shook his head.

"Head east, as far as you can."

The Lizardman asked.

"Do you not believe the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance can win?"

The Sota looked at him.

"Although I hope they can win, one must also prepare for the worst."

"Me too."
