Chapter 1345: The Zerg Descend Upon Chengjia Star (1)

In the trenches of the first line of defense, the Krieg soldiers are making their final preparations.

The hissing sound of breathing masks rises and falls.

Behind the second line of defense, at the Cadian artillery position.

The artillerymen are moving Rune Bullets.

Akadi stands in the center of the position, staring at the firing data on the holographic screen.

"Commander, all artillery pieces are ready."

The artillery Commander reports.

Akadi nods.

"Hmm, no need for too much accuracy; as long as the Rune Bullets are fired, countless Zerg will be blown into fragments."

The artillery Commander says.

"Understood."

Akadi looks at that gray-blue sky in the distance.

"The Zerg are coming. After this battle is over, Chengjia Star will be the territory of the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance."

Behind the third line of defense, the Space Marines of the Dusk Raiders are lining up.

Mortarion stands on a high platform, overlooking his soldiers.

"Warriors, the Zerg are three hours away."

His voice is not loud, but every word clearly reaches the ears of the warriors.

"The Humans of Chengjia Star will become the Emperor's subjects after the war. What we are defending is not a line against Aliens, but the home of our kin."

"Hold the line, fight to the death and do not retreat."

The warriors of the Dusk Raiders answer in unison.

"Yes, my lord!"

Nuochaqigan stands at the very back of the formation, his golden Power Armor standing out in the gray ranks.

He picks up his Guardian Spear and walks toward the first line of defense.

The capital of Chengjia Star, Lucas's Command Center.

On the Holographic Star Map, the light dots representing the Zerg vanguard are approaching rapidly.

"Governor, the Zerg vanguard is two hours away from Chengjia Star."

The Adjutant reports.

Lucas nods.

"Notify all units to check their equipment one last time."

The Adjutant conveys the order.

Not long after, the Adjutant walks over.

"Governor, a communication from Lord Mortarion."

Lucas takes the Communication Device.

"Governor Lucas, the Zerg are two hours away."

Mortarion's voice comes through the Communication Device.

Lucas says.

"I know, my lord."

Mortarion says.

"Are your soldiers ready?"

Lucas says.

"They are ready."

Mortarion is in Silence for a second.

"After the war, I will take you to the Xiuluo Holy Star. To see the Emperor."

Tears well up in Lucas's eyes.

"My lord... thank you."

Mortarion says.

"No need to thank me; the Emperor's subjects should not be enslaved by Aliens."

The communication ends.

Two hours later.

The sky of Chengjia Star begins to change color.

Countless Spore Cysts descend from the sky, dragging long tails of fire, crashing into the ground and blasting out huge craters.

The Zerg vanguard units, Termagants and Hormagaunts, swarm out from the Spore Cysts, rushing toward the first line of defense like a tide.

The Cadian artillery position opens fire.

Three hundred Earthshaker Cannons roar simultaneously, the shells exploding among the swarm, flesh and blood splattering.

But the number of Zerg does not decrease; they step on the corpses of their companions and continue to advance.

The minefield detonates, millions of landmines explode at once, fire soaring into the sky, and the corpses of the Zerg pile up like mountains.

But the Zerg behind step on the corpses and continue their charge.

On the first line of defense, the Krieg soldiers pull their triggers.

The Laser Beams of the Laser Guns and the roar of the Stubbers tear through the sky.

Hormagaunts leap over the trenches, their Scything Talons waving, only to be pierced through by the Bayonets of the Krieg soldiers.

The Termagants charged the position and were shattered by the Stubber.

On the second defense line, the Cadian soldiers were firing.

Every shot from their Laser Guns hit the vital points of the Zerg.

Akadi stood in the center of the position, directing the soldiers to adjust their firing direction.

"Left flank! The Zerg are breaking through from the left!"

He roared.

The Cadian soldiers turned to the left flank and fired a volley.

The corpses of the Zerg piled up in front of the position.

Colonel 147 stood at the edge of the trench, his two eyes staring at the open ground ahead, which was shrouded in fire and smoke.

He held a Chainsword in his hand.

"Zerg, Aliens!"

The Krieg Gunner pulled the trigger.

The heavy Stubber swept across the swarm, and the bodies of the Hormagaunts were cut in two.

But the Hormagaunts behind stepped over the corpses of their companions, their speed undiminished.

The Termagants opened fire, and green Bio-Plasma exploded at the edge of the trench; two Krieg soldiers were hit, and the armor on their chests melted instantly.

The Krieg soldiers behind automatically filled the gaps.

Their Laser Guns fired continuously, killing the Hormagaunts that had rushed to the edge of the trench one by one.

But there were too many Hormagaunts; they surged from the front, from the sides, and from every angle they could charge from.

A Hormagaunt leaped over the sandbags at the edge of the trench, its Scything Talon slashing toward a Gunner.

The Gunner did not have time to turn around and had his skull split open.

147's Chainsword slashed down, the Hormagaunt's body was cut in half, and insect blood sprayed onto 147's gray uniform.

"Hold the line."

The Krieg soldiers did not answer, only firing more fiercely.

The sounds of gunfire, explosions, and the shrieks of the Zerg intertwined, and the trench turned into a meat grinder.

Nuochaqigan stood on top of the bunker in the center of the first defense line, his golden Power Armor like a lighthouse in the firelight.

His Guardian Spear was already activated, and the energy field at the tip of the spear made a sizzling sound in the air.

In the bunker under his feet, the Krieg soldiers were firing outward from the firing ports, their Laser Gun beams weaving through the swarm.

Nuochaqigan jumped off the bunker and landed on the ground in front of the trench.

His golden Power Armor was particularly striking in the dark red firelight, and when the Krieg soldiers saw him, they fired even more fiercely.

Three Hormagaunts lunged at Nuochaqigan simultaneously.

Their Scything Talons slashed down from three directions.

Nuochaqigan's Spear swept across.

The energy field at the tip of the spear grazed the skull of the first Hormagaunt, and the skull exploded.

The Spear pulled back, and the shaft smashed the chest cavity of the second Hormagaunt.

The tip of his Spear fired, shattering the spine of the third Hormagaunt with one shot.

The corpses of the three Hormagaunts hit the ground at the same time.

Seeing this, the Krieg Commissar raised his Laser Pistol and shouted.

"For the Emperor!!!"

Nuochaqigan continued to walk forward.

The swarm noticed him, and more Hormagaunts turned to charge at him.

Nuochaqigan stood in place, his Spear attacking alternately, and the Zerg corpses at his feet piled into a small hill.

The Krieg soldiers formed a firing line on both sides of Nuochaqigan.

The Laser Guns fired in a volley, killing the Hormagaunts attempting to attack Nuochaqigan from the sides one by one.

The Spear in Nuochaqigan's hand swung even more fiercely, so fast it was invisible.

On the eastern section of the first defense line, the ground suddenly collapsed.

The giant mandibles of a Ravener emerged from underground, biting off the lower half of a Krieg soldier.

His upper body fell to the ground, and before he could resist, he was dragged into the hole by another Ravener.

More Raveners drilled out from underground, and the eastern section of the Krieg defense line began to stir.

The soldiers could not defend against the underground attacks, and the Laser Guns hitting the carapaces of the Raveners could not cause effective damage.

Colonel 147 gave an order over the Communication Device.

"Eastern section, pull back the defense line, use Melta Bombs to seal the holes."

The Krieg soldiers took Melta Bombs from their waists, pulled the pins, and threw them into the holes dug by the Raveners.

The sound of explosions came from underground, the ground shook, and a few seconds later, the holes were sealed by collapsing soil.

But the Zerg had already dug too many holes, and the defense line was torn into several sections.

Nuochaqigan heard the chaos in the eastern section.

Without hesitation, he turned and ran toward the eastern section.

His speed was so fast that the Krieg soldiers only saw a golden afterimage streak across the trench.

Thirty seconds later, he appeared at the gap in the eastern defense line.

A Ravener had just emerged from underground, its giant mandibles biting toward a Krieg soldier.

Nuochaqigan's Spear pierced into the head of the Ravener, the spear tip protruding from its back.

The Ravener struggled frantically, its massive body rolling on the ground and knocking down the nearby trench.

Nuochaqigan pulled out the Spear and thrust again, this time piercing into the Ravener's Neural Node.

Its body twitched a few times and then went still.

Another Ravener burrowed out from behind Nuochaqigan, its massive mandibles snapping toward his waist.

Nuochaqigan did not turn around; he swung his Guardian Spear backward, and a bolter round shot precisely into the Ravener's open maw.

The bolter round exploded inside its body, shattering the carapace from within and spraying insect blood and gore everywhere.

Seeing this scene, the Krieg soldiers' morale was greatly boosted.

They used Melta Bombs to seal every burrow and used Laser Guns to attack the Hormagaunts burrowing out from the ground.

The defensive line on the eastern sector was pulled back from the brink of collapse.
