Chapter 1346: Zerg Arrival on Chengjia Star (2)

~6 min read 1,023 words

Very quickly, Tyranid Warriors appeared among the Tyranids.

They stood over three meters tall, their bodies covered in thick carapace, and they swung four Boneswords in a cross pattern, harvesting the lives of the Krieg soldiers.

Tyranid Warriors are elite units of the Zerg, each one a killing machine.

They led swarms of Termagants and Hormagaunts, advancing toward the defensive line.

"Dusk Raiders, advance."

Mortarion's voice rang out in the Communication Device.

A company of Dusk Raiders walked out of the bunkers, heading toward the direction of the Tyranid Warriors.

Their grey-white Power Armor gleamed coldly in the firelight, and their Chainswords and Bolters were already activated.

A Tyranid Warrior saw them and charged over at high speed.

Its four Boneswords unfolded simultaneously, moving so fast they left afterimages in the air.

The leading Company Commander Xiusike did not dodge.

He raised his Bolter and fired continuously.

The Rune Bullets struck the Tyranid Warrior's carapace, blasting open several craters.

The Tyranid Warrior rushed to in front of Kaxiusi, and its Bonesword slashed down.

Xiusike dodged the first blade sideways and parried the second with his Chainsword; the sound of metal colliding echoed harshly.

Two Dusk Raider warriors flanked from both sides, their Chainswords slashing simultaneously at the Tyranid Warrior's side ribs.

The carapace shattered, and insect blood sprayed out.

The Tyranid Warrior roared, its Boneswords sweeping horizontally; one warrior was struck in the chest, stumbled back a few steps, and crashed into the bunker behind.

Xiusike did not pause.

He charged forward, and his Chainsword stabbed into the Tyranid Warrior's chest.

The saw teeth churned within the carapace, and the Tyranid Warrior's body began to tremble.

Another Dusk Raider Space Marine leaped from behind, his Chainsword hacking into the Tyranid Warrior's skull.

The skull split open, and the Tyranid Warrior's corpse collapsed with a boom.

More Tyranid Warriors rushed out from the swarm.

The Dusk Raider warriors formed combat squads, with two or three men dealing with one Tyranid Warrior.

The bombardment of Bolters, the hacking of Chainswords, and the scorching of Plasma Pistols—their coordination was tacit and efficient.

Xiusike's arm was sliced open by a Tyranid Warrior's Bonesword, a wound deep enough to see bone, and fresh blood flowed down through the gaps in his Power Armor.

He simply switched his Chainsword to his left hand and continued to fight.

The sky of Chengjia Star was obscured by a swarm of Gargoyles.

Their Bio-guns could fire downward from the air.

The Gargoyle swarm flew over the defensive line like a dark cloud, and the green Energy Beams of the Bio-guns poured down like a rainstorm.

The Krieg soldiers on the first defensive line were in the midst of a fierce battle.

Energy Beams struck the edge of the trenches, sending mud flying.

When they hit human bodies, they burned through the Armor instantly.

The Krieg soldiers fell one after another, their bodies twitching on the ground, emitting smoke.

"Anti-Air fire!"

Regiment Commander Akadi roared.

The Cadian Anti-Air Cannon gunners raised their barrels toward the sky, and a series of attacks swept across the Gargoyle swarm.

The bodies of the Gargoyles were pierced, and they fell from the sky one by one, like rain.

But the number of Gargoyles was too great, so many that the gun barrels could not turn fast enough.

They flew over the defensive line, circling above the heads of the Krieg soldiers, firing downward continuously.

Nuochaqigan looked up at the sky.

The Gargoyle swarm circled directly above him, and the Energy Beams of the Bio-guns struck his golden Power Armor, dirtying his Armor.

He raised his Guardian Spear and fired at the sky.

Every Rune Bullet hit a Gargoyle, but the number of Gargoyles was too high; his individual firepower was a drop in the bucket.

"Dusk Raiders, anti-air!"

Mortarion's voice rang out in the Communication Device.

The Dusk Raider warriors raised their Bolters and Plasma Guns, firing a volley at the sky.

Fragments of Gargoyles fell like raindrops, smashing into the trenches and the ground with dull thuds.

But the Gargoyle swarm did not scatter; they simply circled at a higher altitude, waiting for an opportunity.

Yet their numbers seemed to never decrease; new Gargoyles constantly surged from the rear, filling the gaps left by those shot down.

Behind the second defensive line, the Cadian artillery positions were non-stop.

The artillerymen continuously pushed Rune Bullets into the gun chambers.

Ammunition crates went from full to empty, then from empty to full; transport vehicles traveled back and forth between the position and the Orbital Spaceport, bringing up crate after crate of Rune Bullets.

Akadi stood in the center of the position, staring at the firing coordinates on the holographic screen.

In front of the first defensive line, the corpses of the Zerg piled up like mountains, but new Zerg stepped over the corpses to continue the charge.

"Increase the firing angle."

Akadi ordered.

The artillerymen adjusted the angles of the artillery.

The Rune Bullets traced arcs in the air and landed in more distant areas, blasting gaps into the swarm.

"Regiment Commander, the ammunition consumption rate is too fast."

The artillery Commander reported.

"At this rate, we can hold out for two hours at most."

Akadi looked at him.

"Ignore the ammunition consumption, do not stop the artillery!"

At the eastern section of the first defensive line, Nuochaqigan was fighting a Ravener.

His Spear pierced the head of one Ravener, while another rushed out from the side, its giant mandibles snapping toward his leg.

Nuochaqigan jumped to dodge, turned in mid-air, and thrust his Spear downward into the back of that Ravener.

The Ravener's carapace shattered, and insect blood gushed out.

As he landed, he crushed the head of a Termagant under his foot.

The Krieg soldiers fired behind him, shooting down the Termagants attempting to approach one by one.

A Krieg combat engineer rushed into the nearest tunnel clutching a Melta Bomb.

A few seconds later, an explosion came from underground, and the tunnel collapsed.

Several more Krieg combat engineers rushed into the surrounding tunnels.

The underground passages were sealed, and the Zerg offensive was temporarily contained.
