Chapter 1392: Eve of the Celebration (2)

~5 min read 996 words

In the dessert shop, soft light spilled over the wooden tables and chairs, and the air was filled with the scent of milk and fruit.

Yingxin sat by the window with a large bowl of ice cream in front of her, drizzled with red fruit jam and a small spoon stuck into it.

She ate it in small bites, but her eyes glanced toward the window from time to time.

Fulgrim sat opposite her, holding a cup of hot tea, his gaze gentle.

Leman Russ ordered another serving of ice cream and ate it in big mouthfuls, not caring about his image at all.

"Brother Fulgrim, where do you think those Alien ships are parked?"

Yingxin asked, pretending to be casual.

Fulgrim said.

"The Spaceport. There are special berths for foreign guests there, far away from the civilian berths; ordinary citizens cannot go there."

Yingxin nodded.

"Oh, then when are they leaving?"

Fulgrim looked at her.

"After the celebration ends; the specific time is unknown."

Yingxin asked again.

"Brother Fulgrim, have you ever seen Aliens? Are they scary?"

Fulgrim thought for a moment.

"I have. Some are scary, some are not. But regardless of whether they are scary or not, they are Aliens. So, Xiaoxiner, do not be curious about them."

Yingxin lowered her head and stirred the ice cream with her spoon.

"I understand."

Leman Russ finished his ice cream and let out a satisfied burp.

"Xiaoxiner, don't think about those things anymore. When the celebration ends, I'll take you to ride a wolf! I just raised a little wolf, and it's so spirited! Much more fun than those Aliens!"

Yingxin raised her face, revealing a bright smile.

"Really? Brother Leman, you raised a wolf? Where is it? Can I go see it?"

Leman Russ patted his chest.

"Of course! In the North District, there is a Small Beast Garden. I'll take you there after the celebration ends!"

Fulgrim was about to say something, but Yingxin spoke first.

"Brother Fulgrim, you have to go too! Let's go together!"

Fulgrim smiled helplessly.

"Alright, let's go together."

Coming out of the dessert shop, the night breeze carried a slight chill.

Yingxin walked in the middle, holding Fulgrim's hand with one hand and Leman Russ's with the other, skipping along.

"Brother Fulgrim, why do you think Mom won't let me go on interstellar travel? Is it because she's afraid I'll encounter danger?"

Yingxin asked suddenly.

Fulgrim thought for a moment and spoke.

"Not entirely. Your mother is afraid of you leaving her side. She only has you as a daughter. Your father is not here, so you are her everything."

Yingxin fell into Silence.

"Brother Fulgrim, I'm not blaming Mom. I just... I just want to see the outside world. The teacher said the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance is very large and has many planets. There are still people suffering on those planets, and I want to go see them."

Fulgrim said.

"Wait until you are a little older, and wait until your brothers have time to accompany you."

Yingxin nodded.

"I know, I will study hard and grow up well. When I grow up, I want to be like my brothers, protect Humans, and fight Aliens!"

Leman Russ laughed and clapped his hands.

"Good! That's the spirit! Xiaoxiner, when the time comes, Brother will take you to fight!"

Fulgrim glared at him.

"Xiaoxiner is a girl, don't teach her to fight."

Leman Russ was unconvinced.

"What's wrong with being a girl? Girls can fight in wars too! Our Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance has female soldiers who are even fiercer than the men!"

Fulgrim couldn't be bothered to pay him any mind.

Yingxin giggled, pulling the two of them forward.

In the distance, the Viewing Platform at the Central Plaza shone brightly under the lights.

The holographic screen was still testing, and the image of the Emperor flashed by.

Yingxin looked up at that tall figure, her eyes filled with reverence.

At the entrance of the Primarch Residential Area, Angron saw them returning and revealed a gentle smile.

"Xiaoxiner, did you have fun?"

Yingxin let go of Fulgrim's hand and ran to Angron.

"Brother Angron! Brother Fulgrim took me to eat ice cream! Brother Leman ate three skewers of roasted meat and a bowl of ice cream!"

Angron glanced at Leman Russ.

"Eat less. The celebration is tomorrow; what will you do if you burst your formal wear?"

Leman Russ was indifferent.

"That won't happen! I wasn't planning on attending anyway."

Fulgrim walked over.

"Angron, has the security plan for tomorrow been finalized?"

Angron nodded.

"It has been finalized."

Yingxin pricked up her ears.

"Brother Angron, are you working tomorrow? Can't you play with me?"

Angron crouched down.

"Xiaoxiner, tomorrow is the celebration; be a good girl and stay at home with Grandmother, all right?"

Yingxin pouted.

"At home again, I'm bored to death."

Angron patted her head.

"After the celebration ends, Brother will take you to play. We'll go to the new park in the East District; there are fountains there, and pigeons too."

Yingxin's eyes lit up.

"Really?"

Angron said.

"Really, I keep my word."

Yingxin held out her little finger.

"Pinky swear!"

"Pinky swear."

Yingxin returned to her room, closed the door, and threw herself onto the bed.

Her mind was filled with the words Leman Russ had let slip.

"Many starships have arrived at the Spaceport."

Many starships. And Aliens. And many, many stars.

Yingxin rolled over and pulled a small notebook out from under her pillow.

It was her diary, the cover plastered with star stickers.

She opened to a page, on which was written in crooked handwriting.

"Today, Uncle said that the Xiuluo Holy Star Alliance is having a birthday. Many people will come to celebrate, and I am very happy."

She picked up a pen and wrote another sentence underneath.

"Brother Leman said that many ships have arrived at the Spaceport. Some are Aliens', and I want to go see them."
