Chapter 1414: The Rebellion of the Human Slaves on Vara Star (2)

~7 min read 1,380 words

The two walked out of the wooden shed; at the camp entrance, two Orc guards were leaning against the fence, dozing off.

Ruike led Weike to climb out from the other side of the camp, where the wire fence had been cut open by Weike and his men during the day.

They crossed an open space and arrived at the edge of the construction site; the armory was fifty meters ahead, a wooden shed with a lamp lit at the entrance.

Dozens of slaves, whom Weike had contacted during the day, crouched in the shadows, gripping stones and iron rods.

Weike asked in a low voice.

"How many are outside the armory?"

A slave said.

"One."

Ruike said.

"I'll go first alone, you all watch; if I fail, then you charge."

Weike grabbed his arm.

"Brother Ruike, you're just one person, how will you sneak attack?"

Ruike patted Weike's shoulder.

"Even if I am weak, I'm still stronger than you, don't worry."

Weike let go.

Ruike hunched his waist and crept toward the armory, his right arm gripping an iron rod picked up from the construction site.

At the armory entrance, an Orc guard sat on a chair, his head bobbing as he dozed.

An Energy Gun was placed to the side; Ruike circled to the Orc's flank, the iron rod gripped in his right hand, aimed at the Orc's throat, and suddenly thrust it out.

The iron rod pierced the Orc's throat; the Orc opened its eyes wide, a gurgling sound coming from its throat, its right hand grabbing the iron rod while its left hand reached for the Energy Gun nearby.

Ruike pressed down with all his might, but the Orc's strength was too great, and the iron rod was pulled out bit by bit.

"Hurry over and help!"

Weike led a dozen or so slaves in a charge; some used stones to smash the Orc's head, some used iron rods to strike the Orc's arms, and some used wooden sticks to stab the Orc's stomach.

The Orc let go of the iron rod, wanting to grab the gun, but Weike lunged forward and kicked the gun aside.

A slave raised a stone and smashed it fiercely onto the Orc's face.

Once, twice, three times, until this Orc's face was smashed to a pulp and it stopped moving.

Everyone panted heavily; Ruike pulled out the iron rod and wiped the blood clean.

"Move the weapons, hurry!"

The armory was piled full of Energy Guns, ammunition boxes, and a crate of Hand Grenades.

Weike and the slaves began moving them out, while Ruike stood at the entrance to keep watch.

"Brother Ruike, we're done moving them."

"Distribute the weapons to the brothers; those who know how to use them take guns, those who don't take axes or Hand Grenades. Tell them, when you want to blow something up, just pull the safety ring and throw it."

Weike nodded and began distributing the weapons.

A dozen or so people were quickly armed; Ruike picked up an Energy Pistol and took two Hand Grenades, hanging them on his belt.

"Let's go, to the sacrificial altar."

The sacrificial altar was in the center of the construction site; the twenty-meter-high altar looked like a black tombstone under the moonlight.

Ruike walked to the base of the sacrificial altar and looked at those crude Runes.

The Orcs hadn't yet had time to carve Runes into the sacrificial altar; it was said that a sacrificial altar carved with Runes could not be destroyed by fire.

"The sacrificial altar hasn't been carved with Runes yet, it can be burned."

Ruike pulled a piece of rag from his pocket and fished a small oil pot from his waist.

He poured oil onto the rag, lit it with a flint, and the rag caught fire.

He threw the rag onto the base of the sacrificial altar.

Flames licked at the sacrificial altar; Weike also took out several rags soaked in oil, lit them, and threw them on.

The fire spread, the base of the sacrificial altar was swallowed by flames, and the firelight reddened the night sky.

A horn sounded in the distance; the Orc Patrol Squad in the camp had seen the firelight.

A dozen or so Orc warriors ran over from the direction of the camp; the leading Orc was burly, with red Battle Paint smeared on its face.

"Two-legged Sheep are setting fires! Kill them!"

The leading Orc roared.

Ruike raised the Energy Pistol, aimed at the leading Orc, and pulled the trigger.

An Energy Beam struck the Orc's chest, but the Orc didn't fall and continued to charge forward.

Ruike fired continuously, three Energy Beams hitting the same spot.

The Orc finally fell.

"Open fire!"

Ruike shouted.

Weike and the slaves raised their Energy Guns and fired at the Orcs.

Energy Beams streaked across the night sky in trails of light.

The slaves had received no training, and many were firing a gun for the first time.

But there were only a dozen or so Orcs, and the power of the Energy Guns was far greater than their cold weapons. One Orc was hit in the leg and knelt to the ground.

Two slaves rushed up and smashed its head with iron rods.

An Orc charged to close range and swung its Battle Axe down; a slave couldn't dodge in time and was struck in the shoulder, blood spraying out.

Ruike rushed over, pressed the Energy Gun against that Orc's chin, and pulled the trigger.

Smoke rose from the Orc's head; the battle had lasted for over ten minutes.

All dozen or so Orcs were killed. On the slaves' side, over fifty people also died.

"Brother Ruike, the Orcs are dead, we won."

Weike said, panting with joy.

Ruike looked toward the direction of the camp; more torches were moving.

Other Orcs in the Orc Camp were rushing over.

"Head into the mountains, quickly!"

Weike shouted to the other slaves.

"Go! Move quickly!"

Except for the slaves who had resisted, most of the slaves stood where they were, not daring to move.

An elderly slave said.

"Are you all crazy? Having killed the Orcs, they won't let us go; they will kill us all."

Ruike looked at him.

"If we don't kill them, they will also slowly torture us to death. Do you want to stay here and wait for death, or come with me?"

The old man fell into Silence.

Ruike turned around and said to Weike.

"Take those who are willing to go; for those who aren't, don't force them."

Weike nodded.

"Those willing to go, follow me! Run to the east! Into the mountains!"

People began to step out from the crowd.

One, two, ten, a hundred.

Including the slaves who had resisted, about four thousand people fled.

The other slaves did not know what to do and could only stand in place, watching the fleeing crowd.

Ruike had no time to persuade them; he led those willing to go and ran toward the mountains.

Behind them, the sacrificial altar was still burning.

The firelight soared into the sky, illuminating the fleeing crowd.

Roars and horn blasts came from the Orc Camp, along with the screams of some of the remaining slaves.

Ruike ran at the very front; his left arm was empty, and his right hand gripped an Energy Pistol.

Weike followed beside him, panting.

"Brother Ruike, how many people did we get to run?"

"About four thousand."

"Are these people enough?"

"It's better than nothing."

The group wound their way forward along the mountain path.

Some fell and were helped up by those behind them.

Some could not walk and were supported by those beside them.

Ruike looked back; the firelight of the sacrificial altar was growing more distant, and the Orcs in the camp had not pursued them. They had temporarily survived a crisis.

Weike said, gasping for breath.

"Brother Ruike, we really survived."

"We survived, but only for today. Tomorrow, the Orcs will come looking for us. We need to find more companions and more weapons."

Weike asked.

"Where are we going?"

"Keep heading into the mountains; we will fight a guerrilla war against them in the mountains. At least for now, we are no longer slaves."
