Chapter 1464: The Young Primarchs Holding a Small Meeting

~6 min read 1,183 words

On the east side of the Primarch Residential Area, an inconspicuous storage room.

This room was originally used for stacking old furniture and sundries, and very few people came here usually.

But at this moment, four Young Primarchs were squeezed inside; some sat on overturned wooden crates, some leaned against the wall, and some crouched in the corners.

The door was closed, the curtains were drawn, and only a small lamp emitted a dim, yellowish light.

Curze sat on a wooden crate, wearing a black turtleneck sweater and black trousers, his whole person shrunk into the shadows.

Alpharius crouched in the corner, wearing a dark blue hoodie with the hood pulled up to cover half his face, his two eyes shifting in the shadows.

Omegon sat beside him, the two of them moving almost exactly the same way, like people on either side of a mirror.

Fulgrim stood by the door, his back against the wall, one hand supporting his chin and the other hand on his hip.

His long silver hair shimmered under the dim light, his expression serious.

"Brothers."

Fulgrim spoke, his voice low.

"I gathered everyone here today mainly for one matter. Our little sister Yingxin, her culinary skills have recently become... more formidable."

Curze was taken aback and spoke up.

"Formidable? You call that formidable?"

Fulgrim covered his mouth and said.

"Before, it only caused our sense of taste to suffer, but now, as soon as I smell that scent, I start having bad memories. The last dish she made, even now, whenever I smell a similar odor, my back goes cold."

Alpharius raised his head.

"Your back only goes cold? After I finished her dish last time, I had nightmares for two consecutive days. I dreamed of being chased by a large pot of purple paste, and no matter where I ran, I couldn't escape."

Omegon chimed in.

"What I dreamed was that the paste turned into a giant tentacle monster, chasing me all over the room. After I woke up, I saw the food on the table and threw up immediately."

The four of them looked at each other, all of them able to empathize.

Fulgrim cleared his throat.

"Therefore, the focus of our discussion today is how to reasonably evade. Without hurting our little sister's feelings, to reasonably and strategically avoid her culinary offensive."

Alpharius said.

"I have an idea. We can take turns on duty; someone is responsible for attracting her attention while the others take the opportunity to withdraw. For example, one person says, 'Xiaoxiner, the dish you made has a very layered flavor,' and then the others can use the excuse of having something to do to leave."

Omegon added.

"Then who will attract the attention?"

"Draw lots."

Alpharius said.

"I'm not drawing lots."

Curze said.

"I drew it last time, and as a result, I was forced to eat three bowls."

Fulgrim nodded.

"Curze is right; we cannot draw lots. Drawing lots is unfair; we need a more scientific plan."

He paused, as if organizing his words.

"We can establish a rotation system where each person is responsible for attracting attention on a fixed day, and the others have free time. This way, at least everyone only has to bear a fixed share of the suffering, rather than being chosen at random."

Curze said.

"Then who goes today?"

The four looked at each other, Silence.

No one stood up voluntarily.

Fulgrim said.

"Then we will go in order. I will go first today, Alpharius tomorrow, Omegon the day after, and Curze the day after that. Rotating this way is fair."

Alpharius said.

"What if our little sister cooks for several days in a row?"

Fulgrim said.

"Then we continue to rotate until her enthusiasm fades."

Omegon said.

"What if her enthusiasm doesn't fade?"

After a moment of Silence, Fulgrim said hesitantly.

"One day, our little sister's enthusiasm will fade, right? Probably?"

The four fell into Silence again.

Curze said in a low voice.

"I don't think this is a solution; I feel like my sense of taste is being lost."

Alpharius said.

"Angron checked it; there is no poison, it's just purely disgusting."

Omegon said.

"When it's disgusting to a certain degree, what is the difference between that and poison?"

Light footsteps came from outside; Fulgrim's body tensed instantly, and he held up a finger to his lips.

"Shh!"

The four held their breath simultaneously, suppressing even their breathing to the lowest level.

"Brother Fulgrim? Brother Alpha? Brother Omegon? Brother Curze? Where are you all? I just made a new dessert! I improved the recipe this time, come and taste it quickly!"

The four Young Primarchs did not move.

Yingxin's footsteps lingered outside the door for a while, then gradually faded away.

"Strange... where did everyone go... I'll go to the kitchen to see if there is still any in the pot..."

The footsteps grew more and more distant, finally disappearing.

The four of them let out a sigh of relief at the same time.

"That was close."

"Hiding like this is not a solution."

"Then let's think of a better way."

"For example, moving to another planet to live?"

"......"

Just then, a faint light suddenly lit up in the center of the room.

Selina's holographic projection appeared among the four, data streams pulsing slowly around her.

"Four lords, His Majesty has asked me to convey a message."

The expressions of the four Young Primarchs froze simultaneously.

Curze said.

"Selina, did you... did you appear here on purpose? Little sister was just outside."

Selina's voice remained calm.

"Selina's Task is to convey the Emperor's message, not to assist in hiding."

Alpharius said.

"You could have easily waited a moment, waited until little sister had walked further away before coming."

Fulgrim sighed.

"Speak. What is it?"

Selina's data stream flickered.

"The Emperor asks if you lords are interested in accompanying Him to inspect the Bone-Crushing Cannery; the trip is expected to take several days."

The expressions of the four Young Primarchs changed at the same time.

It was as if they had seen a hope for escape, but were too embarrassed to show it directly, and also as if they were weighing whether this counted as a true escape.

Curze spoke first.

"The Bone-Crushing Cannery? Is that the place where they turn Orcs into canned goods?"

Selina said.

"Yes, the Emperor intends to personally inspect the quality and compliance standards of the first batch of products, while also observing the operation of the production line. If the four lords are willing to accompany Him, you may depart together."

Fulgrim's fingers paused on the door frame.

He looked at Selina and spoke slowly.

"Selina, did you time this on purpose?"

"I am only responsible for conveying the message."

Alpharius said.

"When you appeared just now, little sister was right outside the door. Don't you think that is too much of a coincidence?"

Selina said.

"My duty is to convey the Emperor's message, not to analyze coincidences."

Omegon whispered to Alpharius.

"She did it on purpose."

Alpharius said.

"It must have been on purpose."
