Chapter 1465: We Are Brothers, Can We Have a Little Trust?
Fulgrim raised a hand.
"Alright, regardless of whether it was intentional, the question now is, how do we answer?"
Curze was silent for a moment, then nodded and said.
"Go. It's better than staying here eating desserts."
Fulgrim looked at Alpharius and Omegon again.
"What about you two?"
Alpharius said.
"Go. I'd rather watch Orcs in a can."
Omegon nodded.
"Besides, the Bone Crushing Factory should be very busy; we could stay there for many days."
Fulgrim looked at Selina.
"Then tell Father that we are all willing to go."
Selina's data stream flickered.
"Understood. I will convey the wishes of the four lords to the Emperor. Once the specific departure time is confirmed, you will be notified accordingly."
Just as Selina's holographic projection dissipated, the four Young Primarchs stood where they were, not yet having had the chance to breathe a sigh of relief, when footsteps sounded from outside the corridor.
Yingxin's voice arrived before the footsteps.
"Brother Fulgrim? Brother Alpha? Brother Omegon? Brother Curze? Where are you all? I just baked a batch of cookies, and Brother Leman said they taste great! Come and have a taste!"
The voice grew closer, passing through the door crack, drilling into the four people's ears, and then following their ears into their brains, echoing in their minds.
The four people's bodies stiffened simultaneously.
The footsteps stopped outside the door.
Very close, so close that the four could see the light leaking in from under the door crack being blocked by a shadow.
"Strange... where did they go... I clearly heard sounds over here just now..."
Fulgrim looked at Alpharius and Omegon, then looked at Curze.
His lips moved, but no sound came out.
"What do we do?"
Alpharius looked at the window; that window was not large, but it was enough for one person to climb through.
He nudged Omegon's arm and pointed at the window with his chin.
Omegon understood immediately; the two's movements were almost synchronized, both taking a step toward the windowsill at the same time.
Fulgrim's eyes narrowed.
"Where are you going?"
Alpharius's voice was very low.
"Leave through the window. You guys bring up the rear, we'll clear the path."
Omegon said.
"This is a tactical retreat, not desertion."
Fulgrim said.
"Tactical retreat? You just want to abandon us."
Curze spoke, his voice very soft.
"They are quite right. This is a tactical retreat."
He also walked toward the windowsill.
Alpharius had already stepped onto the windowsill, supporting himself with one hand on the window frame, preparing to climb out.
Fulgrim grabbed Alpharius's calf directly.
"You can't leave!"
Alpharius was yanked and stumbled, one hand gripping the window frame tightly to steady his body.
"What are you doing?!"
Fulgrim's hands clamped tightly onto his calf.
"We are brothers! If we go, we go together; if we stay, we stay together!"
Alpharius's leg struggled.
"Let go! This is a tactical retreat, not abandonment!"
Fulgrim said.
"I know, but what are we supposed to do if you leave?"
Omegon, who had ignored Alpharius, had already climbed onto the window, but was pulled back by Curze.
Alpharius said anxiously.
"Let go! Both of you, let go!"
Curze said.
"Not letting go."
Fulgrim said.
"We are brothers, we must face difficulties together!"
Alpharius looked at the room door anxiously and incessantly.
"Are you two out of your minds? Once I climb out, I can meet you from the outside! This isn't abandonment!"
Omegon also said.
"Yes, we can meet up with you and help you escape."
Fulgrim said.
"You will come back? Once you leave, you won't come back!"
Curze said.
"He's right, you won't come back."
Alpharius struggled even harder.
"We are all Primarchs! We are the Emperor's sons! We are brothers! Can't there be a little trust?"
Fulgrim said.
"This has nothing to do with trust; this is a basic principle. Besides, since we are brothers, we live together or we die together, we escape together or we stay together."
Curze said.
"Right."
"You all are just too..."
Before Alpharius could finish his sentence, Yingxin's voice rang out again.
"Brother Fulgrim? Are you inside?" The voice was closer than before, as if she were right outside the door.
The four of them froze simultaneously.
Alpharius was desperate to rush out the window, but Fulgrim was still hanging onto his leg.
He didn't manage to take a single step, and his whole body lunged forward, crashing onto the floor.
Omegon had his foot tripped by Curze's outstretched arm, and he also fell down next to Alpharius.
The four of them were tangled together like a ball of knotted rope, unable to tell whose arm or leg belonged to whom.
Fulgrim's long silver hair was scattered across Alpharius's face.
Alpharius's knee was digging into Omegon's stomach.
Omegon's arm was pressing down on Curze's shoulder.
Curze's foot was pushing against Fulgrim's back.
"You're crushing my hair!" Fulgrim said.
"You're crushing my leg!" Alpharius said.
"I can't breathe!" Omegon said.
"Get up quickly! She's coming in!" Curze said.
At that moment, the door was pushed open, and light flooded in, illuminating the tangled figures in the room.
Yingxin stood at the doorway, holding a plate with several irregularly shaped, dark yellow cookies on it, their surfaces somewhat charred.
Her eyes widened, her small mouth slightly agape, as she looked at the pile of brothers tangled on the floor.
"Brother Fulgrim... what are you all doing?"
The four of them lifted their heads at the same time and looked toward the door.
Fulgrim was the first to react; he let go of Alpharius's leg and tried to sit up, but he moved too quickly, and his forehead bumped into the back of Alpharius's head with a dull thud.
"We were... exercising."
Curze let go of Omegon's ankle and stood up.
"Working out."
Alpharius scrambled up from the floor and brushed the dust off his clothes.
"Yes, group push-ups."
Omegon also stood up and straightened his wrinkled clothes.
"This activity is great for training coordination."
Yingxin tilted her head, looking at them curiously.
"So the four of you are hiding in the Storage Room doing group push-ups?"
Alpharius nodded and said.
"Yes."
"Why not go outside to do it?"
Fulgrim spoke up to explain.
"The sun is too strong outside; it's too hot."
Yingxin said.
"Then why hide in the Storage Room?"
Omegon said.
"The Storage Room is quiet, and it's not easy to be disturbed."
Yingxin's gaze turned to Curze.
"Brother Curze, you tell me."
Curze remained in Silence for a moment, then spoke.
"We were just discussing some matters and doing some exercise on the side."
Yingxin did not continue to press them; she raised the plate in her hand, a smile blooming on her face.
"I just baked some cookies! You all should try them!"
She held the plate out in front of the four of them.
On the plate, those irregularly shaped cookies emitted an indescribable odor, like a mixture of caramel, wheat flour, and some unrecognizable plant, with an added dash of some unknown seasoning; it didn't smell like food, but rather like the product of a chemical experiment.
The four of them looked at the plate of cookies, then glanced at each other.
The corners of Fulgrim's mouth twitched slightly. Curze's lips pressed into a thin line. The gazes of Alpharius and Omegon shifted toward the window simultaneously; the window was still open, and the sunlight from outside shone in, as if silently inviting them.
Yingxin said.
"Why aren't you taking them? I've been saving them for you for a long time."
